I have a folder (mozilla.org) that has somehow acquired the properties of a system file, as result it cannot be deleted. I believe that this folder is interfering with Firefox running. While FF shows up in the task manager, the program does not open on the screen. I have tried the most recent versions of FF and the MOOX enhanced version for my system (pentium III running a Dell Inspires 4100 laptop.

The folder is named C:502371470d48710f4f and contains a subfolder named sp2. The subfolder contains 0 files. Both folders are read-only. I go to Properties and uncheck the read-only attributes; however when I try to delete I then find that the attributes have returned to (grayed-out) read-only. Access, of course, is denied.

Going through work computer trying to delete large amounts of old files. Some of them are just photos (part of work practice). I can not access them, to open them for viewing, nor delete them. Not part of old programs, just photos or .docs.

i have an external/portable hard disk. i connect it to my laptop by usb.everything used to be okay, i mean with all the contents inside it. but now recently i have this problem with this particular folder. all folders could be clicked, highlighted, right clicked, accessed; but this one folder, whenever i attempt to highlight it/select it, or when i single/double or right click it, the window would just freeze.

I am trying to delete some of my Internet links from my Favorite Folder, but the error message I get is "Cannot Delete [name of link]: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." I have tried overwriting it with a file of the same file name, but I only get a new error message which says, "Cannot move [name of link]: A file with the name you specified already exists. Specify a different file name".
I have even tried shifting to Safe Mode, but to no avail. I still get the same messages. When I double-click on these files, I get the error message saying, "The target "" of this Internet Shortcut is not valid. Go to the Internet property sheet and make sure the target is correct". I cannot even move them out of the folder into another one that I made that I named "Dead Shortcuts". When I tried to move them, I got yet another error message saying, "Cannot move [name of link]: The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable". When I open Properties, nothing is there except the "General" tab. There is no "Web Document" tab or "Security" tab.
A while back something weird happened with one of my hard drives that corrupted a bunch of music vids... about 3 gigs worth. The files are still there, but they are unreadable and won't delete. It keeps saying 'file not found' whenever I try and do something with them.

I stupidly moved my "My Music" folder, which is labled Julie's Music, to my F drive. At first, iTunes operated fine after I moved my music files, but later it could not find the iTunes library and would not open. I tried moving "Julie's Music" back to My Documents on the C Drive. But iTunes still cannot find iTunes library because it cannot find the My Music folder, even though it is there. I also cannot rename my Julie's Music folder back to My Music. It seems to me moving the folder corrupted it and now I can't open iTunes since it can't locate its library.

while using the Windows XP Setup disk to partition the new drive, I accidentally used the "Create Partition and Install Windows XP" option, instead of just creating the partition. Unsurprisingly, Windows freaked out at having two copies installed on the computer, and it took me quite a while to salvage the thing so it would boot. I ended up using the second Windows install (on D: on the new disk), and left the old, unworking Windows install (on C:) dead on the original Western Digital drive.

Looking under 'properties' it says there are 0 bytes, 0 files, 0 folders. But when I hit delete on the Milk Drop folder I get a message saying the "Directory is not empty". I've uninstalled, reinstalled and uninstalled Winamp to no effect. The main problem is that it prevents Norton Systemworks running properly. It gets stuck when doing the system (registry) checks and when running Windoctor Wizard it stops as soon as it reaches the MilkDrop folder.
I have a folder that I can not delete. I had a bunch of folders with music files in them. I was re-arranging, renaming, and deleting them. At the end of the day, there was one folder that I could not delete from the recycle bin. When I tried to empty the recycle bin, it would delete files until it got to this one. But this one would still not delete out of the recycle bin.

View 10 Replies View RelatedHave accumulated 28 folders and subfolders of AAWTMP in C:Documents & Settings/UserName/LocalSettings/TEMP in the last couple months and am unable to delete any of them. Error msg says "Cannot delete Directory is not empty". There are NO files in these folders and properties show 0 bytes in every folder. This is reportedly a folder created by Ad-Aware at every scan and is supposed to be removed after the scan but I just kept accumulating them until the last week when it stopped. Now the AAWTMP folder opens in the same directory on an Ad-Aware scan but is removed after the scan is completed and the program is closed but I'm still left with these 28 undeleteable folders.I have located AAWTMP in the registry in several keys under Lavasoft and also AVG but deleting them there does no good. I have uninstalled Lavasoft to see if that would unlock them but it didn't.
Besides trying manual delete and renaming each individual folder, have tried CCleaner - Ad-Aware - Spybot - Ewido - Killbox -Counter Spy and Unlock and repeated these in Safe Mode under Administrator. Online scans Housecall/TrendMicro - Panda - Symantec show nothing.Opening the folders shows nothing at all, just empty folders, even though the error message continues to say that they are not empty. Nothing will delete them, so far.
