Virus Machine Couldn't Delete - Memory Not Storage - Email Doesn't Appear Working
Jan 10, 2005
a virus on their machine ,I don't know which or what, then tried to get rid of it by reloading windows. Because I teach office applications such as word, excel etc, they think I can fix it for them straight away. I have a little knowledge, they have none so to speak. Someone has pointed me to your site and so I thought I would give you guys a shot. What is happening. - The computer hard drive has got very little on it - but it is running very very slow. I know this is processor memory not storage memory that governs the speed, but I thought you needed to know that bit of info. The email doesn't appear to be working - it says the IMAP setting is wrong but I have checked the email account properties and they all look ok to me. It will log onto the internet - eventually - but is exceptionally slow and will not open any pages - although the browser window opens it keeps saying 'page cannot be displayed'. I have run adaware - but there wasn't much on it - although it did say that it could not delete 'deskadserve'.....
So I had this awesome post and it was removed by ctrl z. Touch pads on laptops FTL I tell ya. I'm going to make this short and sweet. I'm using two 150gb raptor HDD's connected with SATA. I had windows vista ultimate x64 installed but I didn't like it so I decided to buy windows xp MCE 2005 and here is my problem I'm trying to do the install but it continues to give me the BSOD. Even after I read a thread about the same issue, I couldnt get pass the BSOD and the topic was locked so here I am.
My raid is set to auto detect but I dont have a raid setup since I'm allowing xp to do this for me. I did have one setup for vista but I deleted it thinking I needed to start fresh for xp am i right? I boot from CD and tried to hit F6 but nothing happens. I let it go and continue with the loading. Here's where I'm at now. Windows Setup Setup could not determine the type of one or more mass storage devices isntalled in your system, or you have chosen to manually specify an adapter. Currently , setup will load support for the following mass storage devices.....

I have an external USB 2.0 case with a 160GB HD that was working just fine until a couple of days ago when I stopped the drive and unplugged it from the PC. Next time I connected the drive to the same PC, I got a message saying "There was a problem installing your device" and in the Properties window for the device a Code 10 appears. I connected the same drive to a different computer and it is working perfectly. I uninstalled the device and reinstalled it again but the problem still persists.

A friend was being bombarded with pop-ups, so I ran two programs which I use on my own computer and have installed on many others; they are "Spybot" and "AdAware." He is running Windows XP Pro. This friend of mine does not go to porn or gaming sites (and I found no evidence that he did), or gambling sites, with the exception of one casino site that has never caused any problems for him
The first time I ran Spybot, it detected 249 problems but couldn't remove some because they were running at the time of the scan, and gave me a choice of running Spybot again the next time the computer was started. I chose yes and it found 197 problems this time and couldn't fix 30 of them. I chose yes again to run Spybot on the next boot, and this time it said that it could not fix 44 problems. I ran RegCleaner and it took out some files but I didn't count them. I then ran Norton WinDoctor which found and fixed eight problems. I followed this with a scan with AdAware, which found 1,083 problems!! It could not fix 235 of them and on the reboot it could not fix 177 of them. The next scan showed 168 problems and could not fix 60 of them on reboot. When I rebooted, a Welcome screen requiring a password for the Username "Owner" came up so I called the guy and asked him if he had ever used a password with this system, and he said no. Now I cannot get into his system at all!
I get an application error on start up before ever making a move to open any programs. The instruction at "0x009a6f9a" referenced memory at "0x00000000" could not be written. The moment I noticed this issue was after an install of my Printer/Fax/scanner by HP, It is a wireless printer so the firewall asked if it should unblock for the install process. My question is should I try to go back to a restore point before that install or is there a workaround for this error.
when I am using my computer, some of the buttons don't appear. The names of icons aren't there. One day my wife was working on a word document, and some of the text disappeared. When she scrolled down, then back up, some of it was back. The text was there, we just couldn't see it because of the display being weird. Dual core 3.4ghz Dell, 2gb RAM. Fairly new machine, XP pro.
I use a XP SP3.. n in my removable hdd automatically contain an 'autorun.inf'.it emerge after i connect the hdd to my frens pcs.. n whenever i double-click each partition of the hdd, an autorun file is activated. I looked up in my protected system files n found out that there is suspicious autorun.inf file show up as system files in each partition. but i knew there shouldn't be any info files, despite it is a system file. i think it also kind of virus jus it uses the standard autorun.inf for an info file, so that there is no any antivirus can detect it as a VIRUS.it seems that i couldn't delete it even i(as the administrator) cannot get access to change the attributes in virtual DOS command prompt - n i dunno how to get a real MS-DOS n don say to del/ah/f @ del /a:h /f delete it. access is denied.
When I right-click on a file and highlight "Send To", there should (I think) be a shortcut to Mail Recipient. However, it doesn't appear on my computer (operating XP Home). How can I add a Mail recipient to the list?http://support.microsoft.com/defau [...] -us;310270 show how to add other shortcuts, but what's the shortcut to Mail Recipient?
I'm building a new computer here, and i'm using a previously owned mobo. I'm having an issue getting pass the BIOS spalsh screen and into the boot menu so i could bootup and install windows. I have no beeps at all. every component of this computer is brand new except for the motherboard. I try to go into the setup and i get the dialogue, "Entering Setup..." but it just stays frozen like that.
I know i have to Clear CMOS and i removed the CMOS battery for almost 3 days and nothing at all. i cannot find the CMOS jumper. i see a jumper near the CMOS battery but it isnt labeled clr cmos. i removed it and put it on the 2nd and 3rd pin and the machine doesnt even turn on, but when i locate it back to the 1st and 2nd pin, it turns on perfectly fine, but i still cannot get past the startup screen the screen i cannot get past looks similar to the image below.
I installed an anti virus program and restarted it. it turned to a screen to boot windows safely. But it couldn't continue. I fixed now by reinstalling but can anyone tell what was the problem.
I have a Dell Dimension 9100 with 3GHz Pentium 512MB ram, running windows XP. It was top-of-the-line when I bought it, but is now about 4 years old. Over time, the machine has been running slower and slower, especially since I run Apple's itunes, and firefox, which I assume are resource hogs from looking at the Task Manager's processes tab. Lately, it has taken forever for the machine to load windows, or wake up from sleep. Nothing dramatic or noticeable that I could point to, just a gradual slowing down. I always attributed it to an aging computer and lack of memory. So this week, I purchased 2 GB of additional RAM. I've correctly installed it and confirmed, from MyComputer System Properties, that I now have 2.5 GB of RAM installed. I was expecting a big change in speed, but there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference. I have Symantec FireWall and AntiVirus running, ( it was original to the system) and am afraid to remove it.About a year ago, under advice of an IT friend, I also installed AVG and Spybot Search&Destroy.
I have this new computer and it has been doing ok, until Saturday. It is a compaq 3400+amd 512mb,200gb.I use sypgate as my firewall, avast antivirus, ad-aware,ccleaner,sypywareblaster. I use IE and Hotmail as my only email. When I read the mail and delete it it does not delete. Did an ewido scan and it only showed some cookies!
I went to check my email, and found that IE became unresponsive. Thinking that it was just IE 8 being itself, I proceeded to End Task, and tried to re-open the browser. For some reason, it didn't work. I then decided to re-start the computer to see if that would make a difference. When I did, I found that after logging in, the desktop background would show, but nothing else. I let it sit for more than an hour to see if it would respond, but to no avail.
Then, I decided to start the computer in safe mode. This seemed to work fine, and so I assumed that it was some sort of Trojan that was causing my computer to behave abnormally. So, I went online and installed AVG, as Symantec Antivirus did not work in safe mode. But, since Symantec needed to be uninstalled, the computer shut itself down, and restarted. Only this time, the computer simply did not load past the logo screen. Once that screen closed, I got a black screen, with a flashing cursor on the top left hand corner. It's been sitting there for about an hour, and there has been no change.
He goes into his INBOX and reads his emails. He does not delete the emails he has read and then he signs off. When he goes back into OE the read emails are now in his DELETED folder. I have checked the settings and cannot seem to find anything that he may have selected in error and cannot stop this from happening?
I recently was infected with a computer virus. Norton AntiVirus 2003 initially caught the virus and it supposedly deleted it, so I was not concerned with the message details. However, almost immediately after receiving the message I realized the virus was not completely removed. A DOS window popped up two or three times and then Norton shutdown. I tried opening Norton again but it would not open. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it would not reinstall. I tried the Windows Update site and the page shows no conent. Any ideas on how to identify the virus so I can take steps to remove it?
I have been having some squirely things happening like a blue screen with a code of 0x0000008e and my Picture It! software not working but now when I lost my sound for my email I checked the Sounds and Audio device in the Control Panel and now there is not even a selection for Email Notification. I have never seen this before. This is driving me nuts.
I get the Outlook Express has stopped working and needs to shut down" pop up when I click on one specific email. It is from a trusted source so I know it is not virus related. I can not delete the email because as soon as I click on it, it stops working and shuts down.I did the error reporting but don't know what to do now. I need to delete the one email.
but i think i posted this in the other area before. i had some bugs i couldn't delete in normal mode, so im like oh kay, easy, go in safe and delete the suckers. i restart my computer and f8, and try to go into safe mode, said something about your computer was shut down incorrectly or power lost and some files are missing now.
so im like, ummmmmmmmmmm... how do i get round this. so, i restarted my computer and put it in to the (Last Known Good Configuration), i know, i went to Run>msconfig>Boot.ini>tick /SAFEBOOT and restart my computer, not knowing this was one of the biggest mistakes i've ever done. it starts and it runs a little big and boooom!!! blue screen pops up and this is what it says, "a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damange to your computer....
Every music folder in My Music after C (cameo!) has disapeared although I know they are still there - i can still play them in itunes and even open the song folder but if I copy it and drop it back into My Music it vanishes. Windows doesn't even recognise the memory that the missing files use and thinks the folder holds 3 gigs when its more like 30. Just wondering if there is anything I can try before going through the hassle of reformating.
All of a sudden my Dell laptop (just over a year old, go figure) has started acting funny. Here's some of the issues that started happening all of a sudden -It runs super slow at times and freezing up, svchost.exe seems to be taking a lot of resources up when that's happening -The memory card reader doesn't work. It makes the noise that a new device has been recognized when I put one it, but it never shows up in My Computer. The memory card reader does appear to be working properly in device manager. -Both firefox and IE aren't loading some sites. I'm connected to the internet and some sites load just fine and others never seem to load- and it's not that the site is down. The list of sites I can't access I'm starting to discover is big, and which sites can be access and which ones can't doesn't seem to follow any pattern- I can access google & gmail, but it won't perform a search (either from the page or from the search toolbar in both IE and firefox). I can access and log into my banking sites, ebay, and other random sites (some secure, some not). But I can't access weather.com, the Neosmart forums, the Dell community forums, dell.com, and others. I can access facebook.com, but I can't log on.
My first thought was I have some type of spyware even though I'm very good about not downloading stuff so I ran a ad-aware scan and it came up with nothing. I also ran a hijackthis scan and everything was normal there too. I'd been noticing recently that some windows processes in task manager are using what seemed like a large amount of memory. I then looked my other computer and on the problem one Explorer.exe is running around 99,000 - 120,000 kb- on my other computer it only runs around 14,000-35,000, that big of a difference between the two machines (both running xp- the problem one pro on a laptop, the other home on a desktop) is not normal...........
After trying to install Windows media v9 I am now getting an error message in microsoft word when I try to do a page preview the error message comes up Prop res .dll I have been surfing the net to find a resolution for a couple of hours now with no success until i stumbled on your site which apperas to be very helpful I operating system is windows 2000
Ctrl now opens the bookmarks side-bar in firefox when I try to ctrl + c to copy something it does in fact copy but it opens the bookmarks sidebar every time. Also I cannot ctrl alt delete to open taskmanager anymore.
I am attempting to delete some software off of my computer. None of the 3 that have been downloaded for a long time and show up on the bottom of the screen (Net Defensewall, System Suite 8, and Windows Defender) but yet they don't exist when I try to delete them? What am I missing? I have never seen this happen before. The computer is not in safe mode, as I checked that already. As a matter of fact, my software box only shows like 5 different softwares when it should show about 12
i'm trying to delete a file in dos that shows up when i do dir but when i try to delete it, it says it can't be found. it is a virus that i'm trying to get rid off. it's in the windows logon shell in winntsystem32 folder.
I have a dell PC with windows XP Media Center installed. I think that a virus damaged the boot sector in fact I cannot start my PC.
All I am able to get to is the BIOS or the diagnostics tool, F8 doesn't work, which means I cannot restart in safe mode or last known good configuration and if I use alt+F11, which is the option you have on Dell PC to reformat it in order to have everything the way it was at the time you bought it, it doesn't work.
A friend of mine told me to boot from the CD and then use the fixboot command, the problem is that DELL does not give OS CDs anymore and I honestly do not know what to do
