View 14 RepliesMy nieces were playing Hercules on their older genetic computer when the monitor screen flipped. Now everything is upside down. We tried rebooting and only the initial intel logo is displayed correctly for a couple of seconds and then the windows screen comes on upside down. Any ideas on how to fix this? As I mentioned, it's an older unit with Windows XP installed.

Basically on accessing the web using IE6 for the first time after a re boot the machine locks totally for approx 5 mins. During this time the Start button and Task manager dont respond. The only thing that seems to be still working is right clicking on the desktop brings up the properties screen. The computer does store the keypresses as 5 mins later several windows will pop up as per keys pressed and the machine will stay free of the problem until next re boot.

There are so many different error codes e.g. irql-stop, OXoooooood1 etc.,I noticed on reading some of your answers that you asked someone to create a file re mini dump and then compress it and send it to you. I have created one with the last 3 mini dmp files on it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer is running very slow.It takes about 30-35 Minutes to operate normally.Windows boots quickly, and I see my desktop, but if I try to open anything, it takes about 35 minutes to open. Then everything works fine. It seems to be explorer related. The taskbar disappears a lot in the process or trying to open things. I recently installed IE7 too, could also be part of the problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer is a Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM with Windows XP Professional Installed. I'm really wondering why this computer starts up so slowly. From the moment I press the power button to the moment the welcome screen appears, it takes 2 minutes. It then takes another 2 minutes for the welcome screen to disappear and show the desktop and load all the startup items in the taskbar. That's a total of 4 minutes and I had older Celeron computers which started up way faster than this. I already removed all unnecessary items in startup yet it hasn't changed much. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this.

If i were to remove the CPU to dust it and put it back , would it be like any other hardware, i.e. the memory where i can just remove it and put it back with no further actions to take, or is it way different?

It happens daily, for no specific reason I can think of... it sometimes beeps when Im away from the computer.I say inside the computer, because I have the volume muted and I still hear it loud and clear, like a warning beep.I searched a few posts already, but cant seem to find a solution. Someone mentioned it might be the fan. Can someone be so kind to run me through the HOW TO turn off the Smart Fan thingy (hehehe...Im a beginner...I really dont know what Im talking about lol)I think Im suppose to go into BIOS and turn something off, but I dont even know how to do that. I follow instructions very well, so if you could talk me through it, I can give it a go without having to take it to someone.

Hi! After running a program called System Mechanic from Iolo technologies I discovered my computer had stopped working properly and kept telling me that files essential to the smooth running of windows had been changed. I did a system restore operation and almost everything went back to normal. The only exception is my desktop icons, and icons on the quick lanch bar. They're appearing inside white squares and not against the desktop wallpaper like they should almost as if the wallpaper has not loaded properly under the
icons
I have Windows XP and MS Office XP (2003) loaded on my PC. Whenever I boot up the PC, 3 sessions of MS Word open - 2 sessions have a new (blank) document open, and the 3rd session just shows Word as being open (no new document).I went to Documents and Settings | Application Data | Microsoft | Word | Startup to see if there was anything in the folder prompting Word to open the 3 sessions. The folder was empty. I then clicked Start | Run | msconfig | Enter to see if Winword.exe is in the Startup folder. I thought I might see it in there 3 times – one for each of the Word sessions that are opening whenever I boot up the PC. Strangely enough, Winword.exe wasn’t in the Startup folder at all – not even once.

It's a Toshiba Satellite and it comes with a recovery disc, but after it finish loading the disc, nothing happens but black screen and a mouse pointer. I also tried to reinstall everything from that recovery disc but can't.(also tried to hold down C key when laptop is powering up to reformat). When I try to go to safe mode, it shows blue screen then restart again after it stops loading the file. so anyone got any other ideas?it always stays at the welcome screen so i can't even login..

The problem she is having is when she launches an application, the desktop wallpaper image still stays displayed over the application screen. For example, when she launches Internet Explorer her home page of Google.com comes up but the background is not a plain white background but is the wallpaper image. The same thing occurs when she launches Microsoft Word. The document background is not a white page but is the wallpaper image. As far as I know the same thing happens for any application she launches. Unfortunately for me the computer with the problem is 200 miles away from where I live so I can't personally try to resolve this problem.
