My computer is running very slow.It takes about 30-35 Minutes to operate normally.Windows boots quickly, and I see my desktop, but if I try to open anything, it takes about 35 minutes to open.Then everything works fine. It seems to be explorer related.The taskbar disappears a lot in the process or trying to open things. I recently installed IE7 too, could also be part of the problem.

There are so many different error codes e.g. irql-stop, OXoooooood1 etc.,I noticed on reading some of your answers that you asked someone to create a file re mini dump and then compress it and send it to you. I have created one with the last 3 mini dmp files on it.

Click Restart and Windows XP will restart with only the system services and applications running resulting in a vey fast logon / startup.
clock in XP keeps going out by odd times.. and gets worse if he leaves it...it does this on both sync from windows time AND not to sync...what is causing this?tonight it was 47mins slow I have restart win32 time in CMD
View 2 Replies View RelatedUpgraded my XP home PC (Athlon 64 3500) to XP Pro and added office 2003 pro. I now have a very irritating fault that I cannot find any info on. Basically on accessing the web using IE6 for the first time after a re boot the machine locks totally for approx 5 mins. During this time the Start button and Task manager dont respond. The only thing that seems to be still working is right clicking on the desktop brings up the properties screen. The computer does store the keypresses as 5 mins later several windows will pop up as per keys pressed and the machine will stay free of the problem until next re boot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer is a Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM with Windows XP Professional Installed. I'm really wondering why this computer starts up so slowly. From the moment I press the power button to the moment the welcome screen appears, it takes 2 minutes. It then takes another 2 minutes for the welcome screen to disappear and show the desktop and load all the startup items in the taskbar. That's a total of 4 minutes and I had older Celeron computers which started up way faster than this. I already removed all unnecessary items in startup yet it hasn't changed much. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn on my lap top, Acer Travelmate 2355LC, there are a couple of quiet clicks, then nothing. If left for about 10 minutes, it starts up normaly. Sometimes it starts normally from the beginning.It has an Intel Celron M360 processor (1.4 GHz, 400 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache) 40 BG HDD 256MB DDR, I've cleaned everything up. Should I try and repair? I would like to avoid reformatting if possible.

My computer takes several minutes, sometimes a half hour, to do ANYTHING except open My Computer and the Explorer. Now I've looked at several posts on this site and I've tried things like CCleaner and Ad-Aware (which pretty much freezes my computer now whenever I turn it on) and neither of these have solved the problem.

I Am up to 11 minutes to boot my JetBook laptop with Win XP pro I also have trouble with battlenet.com and commonaccess.com reappearing in the registry and starup, as I understand it these are malicious things too. I have used registry mechanic, trend micro, spyaware, adaware and no adware to try and track these things down, apparently to no avail. There is a message I receive when booting up looking for a registry item which is at least four (4) boxes which makes no sense, how to do a registry search to delete the value?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a new IBM x40.It came with 256 RAM. Booting up was SO slow (4 to 5 minutes) that I added another 256 of RAM. The operating speed improved but NOT the speed in booting up. It still takes about 5 minutes.
Running XP Home, SP2 w/1 gig. All of a sudden my machine is taking too long to finish a boot. I've not added any soft or hardware before this started.Specifically, the Welcome screen stays up for 30 seconds. Then I get a blank desktop and 30 seconds more elapse before the icons appear. Finally, it takes 1:40 before all tray icons are in place so my total boot time is over 2 1/2 minutes.I've reviewed all Start up items in MSConfig and in my Start up folder, and have run a non-destructive restore. I've used Registry First Aid to check on registry content, and, of course, a virus scan (NAV), and have also defragged.

View 2 Replies View Relatedhave a odd issue with xp pro, running sp2.it boots fine, doesn't complain of any issues, no spyware or viruses running.It makes any difference im running NIS.If i am at a blank desktop (no programs open) you can do a ALT+F4 to bring up the log off,shutdown,reboot menu or click on the start button click on turn off the computer. the time it takes to bring up that menu is over 2 minutes. if i hit ctrl+alt+del and shutdown from there it instantly shuts down.if i wait for the menu to appear and then hit shutdown or reboot it also works fine. It just takes an exceeding long time to do such.I also have had the task manager open when i do this to check CPU usage and such none of the TSR's or services go above 3 in CPU
usage.Anyone else having issue?
also tried a SFC /SCANNOW to check and it came up with no errors.
This only does this when i upgrade to sp2.
Whenever I start up XP, or shut it down, it takes literally about 5 mins to do either. Any ideas what might be causing this?

I tried to reduce the start up programs but that had no effect when I turn it off.
Every time I startup or restart my computer, my load takes around 20mins ! I have a Compaq Presario V2000. When I power or restart, the screen goes black, everything flashes, then the Compaq screen shows for about a second (guessing is the BIOS because it lets me hit F8 or whatever) but then after that it goes to a black screen with a status bar at the bottom. Slowly the status bar fills up. At around 20 minutes, which the bar is half way, then the computer flashes again and the XP logo shows and loads normally afterwards.
Im having no more problems with XP or anything else except that startup screen. People tell me its the BIOS, others tell me its not recognizing the Hard drive fast enough among other things. My BIOS boot order is basically CD first then HD. I have tried so many things with no success. And its getting to the point that I cant do anything when it comes to updating stuff without having to restart, which takes those 20mins.
I am running Windows XP on a Gateway GM5084 Media Center, and for over eight months, I've been having to deal with what I believe are hackers. I have reinstalled my system, both destructive and Partial, a number of times and still haven't got rid of them. Yesterday (11/19/07), after my last reload, my username and Administrator access rights were suddenly changed from the Owner/Administrator to just someone who has limited access. I don't know what my user name is because there isn't a Welcome screen.I haven't been able to find them under "Users" in the Control Panal. Unfortunately, the Control Panal itself disappeared as of last night.

While I'm waiting for it i see white bars that look like this:(they connect when it loads)Before this problem i had my power supply replaced. It worked normally when i got the computer back but i had some blue screens saying 'memory dump'Then the slow bar problem appeared. There was a problem with the system32/config file being missing or corrupt. It said to use the recovery console to repair but I didn't know how, so I just reformatted.

It's appears to be frozen for a minute or so and then start or shutdown.It does start or shutdown properly but it's slow. It can take up to 2 - 3 minutes to either start or shutdown.I noticed that when I start my computer, I see the Windows Update yellow shield appear near the clock and then goes away. I'm not sure if it's related but thought I would let you know.

My Laptop (running XP) will boot up to the login screen (which now takes about 5 minutes when it used to be less than 1 minute). Once I enter my login information and hit enter it stalls for about 5 minutes and then returns to the "ctrl-alt-del login screen".I have 2 "profiles" and can successfully log in to one under the administrator login but I don't get a start button and the windows look "different". For example, the expand/minimize/close buttons when I run the task manager look more like how I remember windows screens looking years ago if that makes any sense.
View 14 Replies View RelatedXP Home reboots in the 3+ minute range. Once it gets to the 'Starting Windows XP' screen, it loads fine. Some damnthing is hanging.MY comp is running slow. Expeciially on the net. Task manager is reporting no excess network use. IE 6 acts like it's on a 56k modem. I use Mozilla FireFox, which runs fine, but my wife is a IE 6 fanatic. Shareaza and WinMX load slowly and take a minute or more to change tabs. BitTornado (latest versions all) loads and runs fine, but seems to hang after an hour or so. It stops updating speeds, seeds, peers, etc. It also closes slowly. Once I get online, the comp slams on the brakes. Mozilla is the only app that seems unaffected. Sygate is also logging a lot of portscans. 7 in the in the last hour or so. All from the same IP address.

Anyone know why this is happening? I can still work with the computer and do other stuff, but it just takes a while for the box to come up. It's really annoying.
