Dusting out the entire inside of my pc. i noticed that the fan that cools my pc is full of dust, will removing the small fan covering the cpu cause any problems. like cuasing me to do a clean install because i removed the cpu? i just want my Computer clean and free of all the dust.
If i were to remove the CPU to dust it and put it back , would it be like any other hardware, i.e. the memory where i can just remove it and put it back with no further actions to take, or is it way different?
I have a random beeping noise coming from inside my computer. It happens daily, for no specific reason I can think of... it sometimes beeps when Im away from the computer.I say inside the computer, because I have the volume muted and I still hear it loud and clear, like a warning beep.I searched a few posts already, but cant seem to find a solution. Someone mentioned it might be the fan. Can someone be so kind to run me through the HOW TO turn off the Smart Fan thingy (hehehe...Im a beginner...I really dont know what Im talking about lol)I think Im suppose to go into BIOS and turn something off, but I dont even know how to do that. I follow instructions very well, so if you could talk me through it, I can give it a go without having to take it to someone.
Normally I can get by these on my own, but my friend is having frequent BSoD and I'm very unfamiliar with this one.

Under OS win98se regarding winXPpro windows folder.Online virus scan says there is two adware programs, WUpd & Maxifiles under windowsDownloaded program files. Thing is though when I go into the folder I see five files totaling 192k in size with names like "java run time environment 1.5.0" But when I go outside of the folder and click on properties it tells me there are 22 files in there totalling 22.2mb in there. Whats up with this? I have "show all files" enabled under hidden folders. Why can't I see these files?
I start computer and during windows xp logo booting screens the monitor will go blank (orange light by monitor power button) and keyboards lights will turn off numlock caps and scroll lock will not turn them back on and the little light on my wireless usb mouse reciever goes out. however the pc front lights disc tray and network lights remain on and fan is still going. but sometimes i do manage to get passed the startup (10% of the time) and into windows for about 10-30 minutes before the same blank screen freeze up happens. i know its not totally a videocard monitor issue because not just the monitor goes blank everything stops responding......

Hi! After running a program called System Mechanic from Iolo technologies I discovered my computer had stopped working properly and kept telling me that files essential to the smooth running of windows had been changed. I did a system restore operation and almost everything went back to normal. The only exception is my desktop icons, and icons on the quick lanch bar. They're appearing inside white squares and not against the desktop wallpaper like they should almost as if the wallpaper has not loaded properly under the icons
How can we post an attachment "inside" the message in this site when we post either a new post or a reply... versus just having the attachment as a separate item at the bottom of the message that the viewer has to click on to see it? I'm just dying to be able to do that. I have seen huge attachment such as "Print Screen" right along with the written message.
Computer is running a lot slower these days which i suspect is because of some virus or other. have used the various software to try cleaning it up but does not really help.
The thing is i am planning to buy a new pc and intend to give this one to a family member, so i want to clean all the crap from it. I have visited the odd porn site or two so really want to clean it properly
Is formatting the drive the best way to clean this up?
To clean up the programs that start up and take memory but aren't used. I tried eliminating some of the programs that I could identify but this didn't improve performance much. I was wondering if someone might have some additional suggestions.
My Computer: Dell Dimension 4600, Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz, 2 Gb ram, XP Home ver 2002, SP3, 80 Gb hard drive
I moved a hd (with xp, programs, settings, etc) from my old pc to a new one that already has xp pro. This old hd is going to be used for archiving only, but it has a lot of files, xp os and settings that I want to get rid off. How to accomplish it? Cleaning the whole stuff isn't the case as some files/programs will be kept as is.
I want to ask how I am suppose to blow the inside components of my pc using compressed air, because wouldn't the dust go in the pc even more when I blow it? How am I suppose to blow it out? Blow behind the dust so the air would repel and blow it out?
Is this a good method for ESD precautions (without a gounding strap): - Not working on a carpet - Not wearing footwear - Working on a wooden table - Touch the back of the computer before opening it - Touch the Metal Case of the Power Supply (inside) frequently while the computer is open - Not moving on the floor too much

Cleaning a compact disk... What is the proper way of doing so? What kind of cloth should I use and which way do I rub? Are you supposed to rub in circles or do you go from the inside ring to the outer edge?
It has really old hardware with Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1. There is a bunch of software that I don't want. I tried uninstalling the programs from Add or Remove Programs, but I can't.
Computer is running a bit slow, and i was wondering if anybody could help me clean it up and maybe get rid of some registry entries or startup tasks that could be the problem. it takes a long time to load, and im sure that theres a lot of junk that doesnt need to open on startup and a lot of dead ends and run arounds in the registry, if anybody wants to help i'd appriciate it. maybe take a look at a hijackthis log?
Older Toshiba Satellite notebook and would like some assistance in cleaning up a bunch of junk and optimizing their system as much as possible. They are running XP Home with SP2 and they are looking only to keep a few basic programs on it.

I have several registry cleaning tools on my PC like registry mechanic,WinASO registry Optimizer and those included in my programs ASMW PC-Optimizer,Tune-up utilities and WinTools.net Professional. One thing I am puzzled is that all the registry cleaning tools have found certain problems when I run one after another.Once i completed my registry scan using all above tools and fix all problems,I can't understand why a number of registry problems still exist the next day.I did not carry out any important task other than just spend the most 1 hr of web surfing. Recommend a more powerful registry cleaning tool to curb such problem.
The newest version of hijack this w/instructions? And whatever else I need in order for someone on here to look at my system and tell me what needs to be cleaned off?

Recommend keeping your PC clean and efficient over time? Is it easier to just reformat it when needed or better to clean it out regularly, and are there any ways of cleaning you would recommend?
What are recommended programs for cleaning your registry? I tried to use Registry Mechanic, but for some reason it gave me the error message that it could not locate the file map.dat,I verified that the file was there in the correct location. Are there any other programs I could try?
