Virus Cleaning
Feb 27, 2006How to remove viruses from my pc please?
View 10 RepliesHow to remove viruses from my pc please?
View 10 RepliesRecently my Dell Dimension 4600 became badly infected. Malwarebytes antimalware and Spybot Search and Destroy now declare my PC virus free, but I have one artifact of the infection. Control panel as well as my software no longer sees my HP8450 printer. This problem first appeared when I was infected, this did not occur during or after cleaning. HP's online troubleshooter does not solve the problem. Further, I am unable to reinstall the printer; I have the original install CD and when prompted, Windows install wizard doesn't recognize the files on the CD. Trying a version of the software downloaded from HP's website, the install sees the device but cannot complete the install. I can't uninstall the printer because Control Panel doesn't recognize it as being installed. The printer is connected via USB cable and all of my other USB devices (mouse, keyboard, external hard drive) all work as they should. The printer was fully operational before the virus infections (Virtumonde.prx and Win32.TDSS.rtk).
View 6 Replies View RelatedComputer is running a lot slower these days which i suspect is because of some virus or other.
have used the various software to try cleaning it up but does not really help.
The thing is i am planning to buy a new pc and intend to give this one to a family member, so i want to clean all the crap from it. I have visited the odd porn site or two so really want to clean it properly
Is formatting the drive the best way to clean this up?
How do I clean up my HD to free up more space? Where do I look?
View 9 Replies View RelatedTo clean up the programs that start up and take memory but aren't used. I tried eliminating some of the programs that I could identify but this didn't improve performance much. I was wondering if someone might have some additional suggestions.

I moved a hd (with xp, programs, settings, etc) from my old pc to a new one that already has xp pro. This old hd is going to be used for archiving only, but it has a lot of files, xp os and settings that I want to get rid off.
How to accomplish it? Cleaning the whole stuff isn't the case as some files/programs will be kept as is.
I want to ask how I am suppose to blow the inside components of my pc using compressed air, because wouldn't the dust go in the pc even more when I blow it? How am I suppose to blow it out? Blow behind the dust so the air would
repel and blow it out?
Is this a good method for ESD precautions (without a gounding strap):
- Not working on a carpet
- Not wearing footwear
- Working on a wooden table
- Touch the back of the computer before opening it
- Touch the Metal Case of the Power Supply (inside) frequently while the
computer is open
- Not moving on the floor too much

I've been to rid my computer (Windows XP) of spyware and such, uneeded stuff running, as I can only get dial up and it's slow enough at best! If I can figure out how to get this Hijack This log attached, I would sure appreciate it if someone could look at it and what maybe should'nt be there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have uninstalled several programs from my computer.
I was wondering if it is safe to delete the system file in the Registry? or if something bad would happen?
I have several registry cleaning tools on my PC like registry mechanic,WinASO registry Optimizer and those included in my programs ASMW PC-Optimizer,Tune-up utilities and WinTools.net Professional. One thing I am puzzled is that all the registry cleaning tools have found certain problems when I run one after another.Once i completed my registry scan using all above tools and fix all problems,I can't understand why a number of registry problems still exist the next day.I did not carry out any important task other than just spend the most 1 hr of web surfing.
Recommend a more powerful registry cleaning tool to curb such problem.
The newest version of hijack this w/instructions? And whatever else I need in order for someone on here to look at my system and tell me what needs to be cleaned off?
I am asking b/c when my virus scanner did is regular scanning it said it found to trojans or malware? I don't know if I have opened something that I should not have...not knowing or if someone has used my computer and opened something.
When I open internet explorer.it says my homepage is about blank.it will not let me change it back to the regular homepage.
Recommend keeping your PC clean and efficient over time? Is it easier to just reformat it when needed or better to clean it out regularly, and are there any ways of cleaning you would recommend?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows xp Home. How many times should I clean out the registry? I have done a lot of cleaning of files and registry entries in the past but do not know what would be a acceptible limit for a guy who uses his pc everday most of the day. I like it fast I have 2 gigs of ram and use an dsl connect and a Intel App acclelerator. Sometomes wierd things happen like my floppy disk will run for a split second after I am on the pc for about 30 min. then stop and my pc will not always boot up and say that an improper frequency has happened. After I re-boot all is well. This does not happen all the time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a three year old HP media Center PC m1080n, 540 Intel Pentium 4, 512MB ram, 250 GB with about 82MB of free space.
I used to run spybot and adaware but haven't done that in quite a while.
The computer is running very slowly. I have defragmented but that didn't do much good.
Could someone please offer me some basic actions to try to improve things?
I need to know what folders I clean out and files as well. I know there is diskcleanup but that is only the tip of the iceberg there are others I know there are other windows cleaning tips besides Diskcleanup and also cleaign the registry?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWindows has many programs that start and take memory for itself.

View 10 Replies View RelatedDusting out the entire inside of my pc. i noticed that the fan that cools my pc is full of dust, will removing the small fan covering the cpu cause any problems. like cuasing me to do a clean install because i removed the cpu? i just want my Computer clean and free of all the dust.
If i were to remove the CPU to dust it and put it back , would it be like any other hardware, i.e. the memory where i can just remove it and put it back with no further actions to take, or is it way different?
It's a Gateway computer. It is the 200X series running XP Pro and fully updated. I am looking for advice for taking all my data, music, email off the hard drive and leaving the computer with the operating system, office, norton and maybe a couple of other basic programs. I do not need to transfer all my data to a new machine. Do I need to go all the way to a reformatting of the drive to clean out my data files?
View 6 Replies View RelatedA laptop that I have to turn in soon. I use this more or less as a personal laptop (I work from home). I want to clean this up (remove history, etc) before I send it back to the company. I am not really trying to hide anything, but more prefer to not let them into my personal life. Please do not start preaching about ethics, or that it is a company comuter, etc....
The computer is a Dell Latitude D610, with Win XP. I have done the basics, like the Browser history, but I am more concerned with anything that may be kept in the registry, etc.
my laptop is getting mighty slow, and i was thinking about doing a clean install of xp on it. That said, i don't want to go out and buy another copy of windows xp, so i was wondering if there's any way to basically re-install windows and get rid of everything without having to have a new cd-key. Also, could i do a clean install of windows and then call microsoft for a new key since it's the same computer running xp?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to know if I clean out the administration ID on a computer, if the other ID’s are also cleaned out at the same time, I have never had to maintain a computer with more than one ID, although I have used and added programs to one.I ask as the other ID’s of course do not have the permissions that the Administration ID has, and the other ID's stop me doing some stuff. Is the only way to clean the other ID’s out is by making them temporary Administrators? Computer is running XP Pro full version and service pack 3 all updates exccept still running IE7
