I am running CW Shredder quite regularly and everytime I do run it it detects CWS.Msconfig and removes i. My problem is if this is aproblem I want to know how to get rid of it for good. I also run Ewido, spybot, adaware and windowsonw antivirus. Outside of a few cookies This is the only Problem.

Does 66 running processes seem like a lot? I cannot seem to find a thread regarding this. (I'm sure there is, stopped looking after 45 minutes) It doesn't seem to slow my computer at all. I AM running quite a bit on here as far as spyware, virus scans, webshots, etc. It's also a media center 2004 computer with all the trim so there are quite a few windows processes on there. Even with AOL running, my computer is only using 430MB of RAM and I have 1GB.
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy work colleagues is having trouble with a slow-running computer i thought I'd look at her startup options and make sure there isn't something running that doesn't need to be. I ran msconfig and looked at what she had going at startup, but only the necessary items were checked there. So I took a look at the services panel, using a list from blackviper.com to make sure her computer's settings matched up with those recommendation. However, one of the services listed isn't on the blackviper.com list: Winkcpw. Nor did I get any hits for the name of the service on either Google or using Yahoo search. I'm wondering if anyone here knows what the program is and whether it should be running at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor the last 3 hours my machine keeps rebooting of its own accord.When it reboots sometimes there is nothing at allSometimes it gets to the XP splash screen but the little blue bars go further than they shouldIf it gets past that to the welcome screen some times the screen goes funny when i try to typen my password, or when i've typed it in and hit enter it goes funny then or reboots.When it reboots I get Overclocking Failed! Only on the odd occasion though.I've reset the default settings in BIOS but this does not have any effect.
I have ran Everest Home to monitor the temperatures but they all seem fineCould it be a problem with my graphics card?Just a thought because of how the screen keeps going funny and not displaying properly

I am still getting used to XP. In WIndows ME, there was a windows empory internet files folder and a windows emp folder that I deleted regularly because IE saved a bunch of unwanted files in there all the time. Where are these folders in XP? I have done a search for them and have found a few different ones but just arent sure which are what. Where should I look, or where can I find them?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want a program to run at startup and I want to be able to change what I have done at any time.
There are a number of unchecked entries in msconfig and I have to use Selective Startup all the time.
If I want to revert to Normal Startup under the General tab instead of Selective Startup, the program's box automatically rechecks itself in Startup.
The Startup tab gives me a handy record of what I did and allows for an easy change of mind so long as I continue to use Selective Startup.
If I edit the Registry to stop programs running at startup, they won't show in msconfig and I lose the handy record of how it was and I may have to reinstall the program to go back to it running at startup.
I would like to accomplish this:
1. Use Normal Startup instead of Selective Startup.
2. Have some programs not run at startup, but be able to easily change back to having them run at startup.
3. Have a readily accessible list of those programs and the details as shown under the Startup tab as a reminder of how it was without having to manually enter it all into a text file or keep a notebook or reinstall.
Is there some way to use Normal Startup, stop programs running at startup, but retain or find a list of those programs (including the details under the headings Startup Item, Command, Location) that is shown when using Selective Startup with unchecked boxes under the Startup tab?
To put it another way, use Normal Startup but somehow retain the convenient flexibility of Selective Startup.
How I thought this was a Nero problem but I Have just uninstalled one version of Nero 6.6.0.8 and replaced with my bros earlier version 6.6.0.3 both original discs.This problem is also seen on Clone DVD2.I am now convinced this is a Windows problem.This is whats happening.I am unable to copy DVD's with Nero whether they are Video/MP3 files.Every time I click on copy I receive a warning "disc capacity not big enough".I had the same problem 4 years ago with totally different equipment and totally different software and I remember wiping the hard drive to solve it.(which is not the way I want to go)I have Nero 6 Ultra Edition Version 6.6.0.8 installed ( Now 6.6.0.3 )
View 4 Replies View RelatedI ran a scan with AVG and during the scan it found "Adware.BiSpy". That sound ominous. It recommended I "Ignore Once". I decided to delete it instead.
But when I go to delete, A grey box pops up that says:

i have had something on my pc for sometime now. i am unable to get rid of it. i have tried norton antivirus, trend micro, spy sweeper, adaware.all programs detect threats, remove them, but the problems keep coming back. it started out as random pop ups on my computer. then, a few days ago i realized i could not access my task manager or my control panel. i get an error stating that the 'task manager has been disabled by administrator' and 'the program has been disabled due to restrictions on your computer. contact administrator.'

View 1 Replies View RelatedIve been having troubles with my comp Programs are opening up slowly and generaly most thing are slow.The main thing that i notice is when trying to attached a item to a emil in outlook i will click insert/file/cdrive/this file/ that file, it takes somewhere between 1-2 min to open cdrive and each click.
Another thing that i noticed was that when i remove the usb keyboard and mouse 1-2 min later i will get the soud of being removed.I get alot of programs not responding but after a while they do, eg when shutting down a associated program with the printer almost allways pops up not resonding but does after a while.
pc is sounding very strange sometimes, just now all that is running is virus scan and AOL, I have had a look at the task manager and on the CP usage hist. the graph is very high.Is this normal as I do not remember this groaning before.

Just before it started I changed the desktop appearence on my display settings. It started running slow from this point.I then tried to start i-tunes and it crashed.The ususal whirring noise (hard disk?) now sounds like a ticking. I have run virus scan, spywear scan, done a defrag, and every thing is fine. There is nothing in the startup menu on msconfig screen. but yet my comp takes like 3 mins to restart. getting on the internet with Road Runner takes like 5 mins.

I have Norton utilities and don't need this other program. In the past zone alarm firewall asked me if I wanted to allow access and I checked yes because I was lead to believe it was part of my SBC Yahoo DSL. Now I know it's not. I disabled the program in the start up. I believe it can cause a conflict. Maybe I should uninstall it. I'm just puzzeled as to how I came to have this and why all of a sudden this program began asking for access

I Recently Had My Computer Rebuilt And Went From Dial Up To Verizon Dsl. Loved The Speed For Awhile. 512 Memory Was Added. Now It It's Running Slower. I Did Add Spybot, A New Usb 2.0 Port, And Several Other Programs. I Have About 20 Icons On My Desktop. Will Any Of This Cause The Slowing Down Of Programs, Getting E Mail, Or Surfing The Internet? When either program reads C:/windows/I386 it intermittently powers down. I think there's a corrupt file in the main body of I386, but can't isolate it. I'm not sure which type of file should be in this area.
