Running Really Slow / It's Virus Or Spy Ware Related
Oct 3, 2005
My PC has started running really slow. I know this could be virus or spy ware related but I have Norton and have never had problems before. Just before it started I changed the desktop appearence on my display settings. It started running slow from this point.I then tried to start i-tunes and it crashed. The ususal whirring noise (hard disk?) now sounds like a ticking. Every so often it jumps into life and runs a t normal speed. My operating system is XP. 250GB HDD. Intel pentium four processor 540 (3.2ghz)
Ive been having troubles with my comp Programs are opening up slowly and generaly most thing are slow. The main thing that i notice is when trying to attached a item to a emil in outlook i will click insert/file/cdrive/this file/ that file, it takes somewhere between 1-2 min to open cdrive and each click.
Another thing that i noticed was that when i remove the usb keyboard and mouse 1-2 min later i will get the soud of being removed.I get alot of programs not responding but after a while they do, eg when shutting down a associated program with the printer almost allways pops up not resonding but does after a while.
my laptop is running kinda slow and I just wanted to post a hijackthis log cause I think I've got some spyware that isn't showing up in spybot or somthing.
I feel like I went back to a pentinum 1 486mh and 16 mb of ram....... I cant figure out what is wrong with my comp. I have run virus scan, spywear scan, done a defrag, and every thing is fine. There is nothing in the startup menu on msconfig screen. but yet my comp takes like 3 mins to restart. getting on the internet with Road Runner takes like 5 mins.
I have run my adaware, spybot, and virus scan....nothing comes up...but my computer is running very slow....I need to know why pages aren't loading as fast as they were.
I am having problems with my computer running slow. It does not seem to matter what I do it still runs to slow. I am running Windows xp, have no viruses that have been detected but all my programs run slowly. What can I do to fix this problem???
I am currently using: Trend Micro PC-cillin, Webroot Spy Sweeper, Microsoft AntiSpyware, ewido anti-malware and I have Spybot Search & Destroy installed. All of this software (along with Windows) is kept updated and none of the software mentioned has found anything (except for the occasional tracking cookie) wrong with my computer.
I inadvertently downloaded spyware about a month ago and since then my computer's system has been slowly deteriorating. I downloaded lavasoft and adaware but they did absolutely nothing to remove problems.Recently my entire computer's screen is blue and says "A fatal error has occurred...error caused by Trojan-Spy.html.smitfraud.c" I'm afraid to use the internet on that computer.
I Recently Had My Computer Rebuilt And Went From Dial Up To Verizon Dsl. Loved The Speed For Awhile. 512 Memory Was Added. Now It It's Running Slower. I Did Add Spybot, A New Usb 2.0 Port, And Several Other Programs. I Have About 20 Icons On My Desktop. Will Any Of This Cause The Slowing Down Of Programs, Getting E Mail, Or Surfing The Internet? You Guys Were Great Last Time About Solving My Usb Port Problem.
Having problems at the moment. Thought I had got rid of my virus problem related to a file in the system32 folder called win16.exe, which was related to Downloader.Tibs. But then keep getting this crash dialogue box related to service.exe. Have followed some threads but a little confused.
Having a issue on a computer and i think its virus related but haven't found any info on it. when I go to printers you know usually you have the windows imaging printer but all I have is add printer. If I try to add printer it doesn't do anything
I've read several threads here already discussion hard drive noises where the culprit seemed to be a hardware problem. But I'm not certain if my PC is showing all the right 'symptoms' for it to be hardware-related.The clicking noise occurs at start-up and *mostly* (85-90% of the time) during internet browsing. The sound itself is unusual preceeding each click, there's a grinding ''shhhhhrrrrp'' sound.
My pc won't boot windows. When I turn it on it gives the following message:"X300 SE 128MB BIOS P/N 113-A33406-100"Not exactly sure what is going on. I think it is either memory related or bios related, but I could be wrong.
Does 66 running processes seem like a lot? I cannot seem to find a thread regarding this. (I'm sure there is, stopped looking after 45 minutes) It doesn't seem to slow my computer at all. I AM running quite a bit on here as far as spyware, virus scans, webshots, etc. It's also a media center 2004 computer with all the trim so there are quite a few windows processes on there. Even with AOL running, my computer is only using 430MB of RAM and I have 1GB.
Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank
I'm running XP. I did an Ad-Aware scan and removed some tracking cookies. It also stated that I had 29 running processes. How do I find what is running to help speed up my PC, and also; which are essential? I have dial-up AOL. It's running like a horse-drawn computer. How can I get it up to at least steam-powered.
I had dial up 4 years, I finally got DSL a month agao, now instead of my computer running faster , it is running slower than dial up! I also get a message after I shut down a window, ( memory could not be read error ) sorry I forget the numbers but will copy them down when i log off. I have Windows XP Home Edition.
We run Comcast high speed, two computers running though a router setup. My son "opened a port" to speed up his game play. My computer now crawls. Pages take too long to load, and I now sometimes get the server error message here, server not responding. Any idea what I can do. My son seems baffled, but I know he doesn't want to sacrifice his warp speed game play.
Someone told me that my computer is running slow because I have too many programs running in the background. Could this be true and if so, how do I delete the unnecessary programs and more to the point, how do I recognize which programs are necessary and which are not?
My computer all of a sudden slowed drastically. It hangs when I run outlook and when I try to clear my temp files in IE. I'm getting huge memory usage from "epmworker.exe", "Generic.exe", and "alg.exe" I have run spy sweeper and AVG and have found nothing.
I ran Ad Aware SE and later Spyawre Doctor and found nothing also clen temp. files on IE/Tools/temp folders then I ran %temp% and deleted all temp files but it gave me an Error File or Folder mon000 that says close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner
My pc was working just fine a few days ago then last night i go on it was just dragging.Everything was loading slow despite the fact i have even firefox was loading slow which it never does.Anyway i asked my sister who was the last one on if she clicked on anything but no surprise the reply was I didn't do anything so i guess it was a ghost .I ran NAV but nothing found then again NAV doesn't seem to find anything
computer (WinXP SP2 - 1GB RAM) just started in the last day or two to load really slow -- it takes a good half hour or more to get to the point where you can click on an icon and it takes a few minutes to open. Don't even ask about the internet. it did not download anything in the last few days and has no idea why this is happening.
My problems are a very long boot up (go away and make a coffee length) and also slow running, especially in opening progs for the first time ie, very slow to open Word initially, then much faster opening subsequent Word files. Even so, the laptop has slowed considerably and is often hesitant.
Win XP HE SP2. Dell 8300 3.0 Ghz .PC takes minutes from startup to desktop. All programs much slower than usual.I regularly use Defrag, Have Microsoft anti spyware, Panda anti virus, Ad Aware Spybot, System Mechanic Pro.etc.Have tried everything!
Why is it taking my computer 3 minutes to boot to the desktop? As you can see from my signature below, I don't have exactly a slow poke machine. All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed. This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.
I am running windows XP home ed. SP2 on my wireless hp pavillion Zx5000 laptop. It is running somewhat slower than it was a few weeks ago.It acts as if something is running in the background.I have defraged, scan disc, virus scan.Should i check resource's and start up programs running and if so how?
