I have a windows XP operating system. Whenever I reset the clock - it bounces back to the old time (three hours behind) I have tried to change the timezone setting from Pacific to Eastern but again it bounces back

It's extremely annoying - is the battery dying? Or is there another problem?
every once in a while i will notice that my pc clock is a few hours behind, the minute is almost always right, but even that will vary +/- 5 minutes or so. this isnt a huge problem, but i was wondering if it might be an indication that i need to install a new battery on my motherboard?

I used to be able to have a digital clock displayed as my screen-saver . I think it was a marquis option.
Sometimes I fall asleep in front of the computer and wake up in the middle of the night This can be a little disorienting and I am always fumbling for my cell phone and I can't even read the display because my eyes are all blurry.
Would be so nice if I could get that big green floating digital clock back, as my screen saver.
It would also help when I'm rushing around and trying to get out of the house (condo)

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy mouse keeps hanging up and clock loses time when not running in safe mode. Not just the mouse really, but nothing at all works. When I boot normally (not into safe mode), windows can take forever to load due to this. On last boot my clock lost 10 out of 15 minutes uptime and I had to manually power off even then. I am running Windows XP Service pack 2 on a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ system with 1214 mb mem 150 gig hdd.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had to reformat an old IBM Thinkpad,I used the on board way to do it.Since reinstalling XP I get the BSOD described above.It always reboots, does a disk check says all files are fine, then starts up.I have updated the bios, and video driver.When I try to do a windows update for sp2, the bsod comes back every time. Another driver problem?Should I be checking the RAM memory?I did not have this problem before I reinstalled XP.

I have never found if there is a fixed time period that this happens. What I mean is I don't know if it happens after two, three, four hours. All I know is that when I get up in the morning the computer is back on.

All I need is a few hours, actually, because all I want is to get my stuff off the drive and be done with it...if we're able to do that, we'll probably subsequently give the machine away or sell it for cheap and let somebody else buy a copy of windows for it...so, if I were to re-install XP again, would it give me more time? Also, would there be a way to install the OS without formatting the whole drive (so that my files, pics, etc aren't written over)? If I were to install something like Windows ME, which I'm told doesn't need to be activated, could I retrieve my files THAT way? Or would it have to reformat the whole drive?

Afterwards the harddrive powers-down, the fans stop running, etc. Then for no reason, the computer turns back on after a brief period of time off (varied: 1hr, 15min, 8 sec) as if someone pushed the power button.I did not install any new software, or update/added on new hardware when this problem started to happen. Because of a particular application, I decided that I didn't want to automatically switch back to standard time at 2:00 AM. I would do it manually later.So I unchecked the box on the server and all of my PCs on the 28th. When I got ready to make the manual change around 5:00 AM on the 29th, they were all already on standard time. Does this mean that the box only affects going to daylight savings time and that it will always revert to standard time?

I downloaded an antivirus (the program was fine, it worked for my friends who had the same virus) and ran it. Randomly in the middle of the running my computer just died. It reset itself. So I went back into the account, and it reset itself again. I've done some work and am able to realize that the system will LOAD to the point where the account becomes active. Before any program can be used the computer restarts itself.

It can happen anytime, and it's as if I've pressed the reset button on the case but obviously I'm not. I've got Sophos AV software, Zone Alarm Pro and Spybot installed and these can't find any virus's or spyware or malware. It's driving me mad because before this it was a very stable installlation.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was reading a string from 2007 on this site about a similar problem I'm having. My XP computer keeps resetting and after the computer restarts and an error report is sent I get a rather vague web page from Microsoft that a device driver might be at fault.
The string I mentioned reading involved a member here that seemed very knowledgeable and quite helpful, I think it was "The Hound" at any rate in reading the string The Hound recommended setting up the error process, for lack of a better term, to not automatically reboot so the message on the bluescreen could be read. I've done that but the system is stable for now.
I bought my laptop through the university and it came with XP Pro preinstalled on it. I did not receive any cd's with it and was wondering how to go about getting it back to a freh copy of windows. I think my registry is buggered now and wouldn't mind starting afresh. I did some digging and found a thing called sysprep that has the option to prepare the machine for the end user.I'm wondering if I pushed it that would take it back to the state
