View 14 RepliesHere's the question: How do I get rid of the "Past Notifications" in my "Notification Area"? I'm running Win XP.
Whenever I start my computer the volume icon is missing from the notification area. When I go to the volume options there is a tick in the box that says 'Place volume icon in taskbar.' But if I take the tick out and click apply and the put the tick back in and click apply, it reappears. However the next time I start my computer, it has disappeared again.

When I boot normally (not into safe mode), windows can take forever to load due to this. On last boot my clock lost 10 out of 15 minutes uptime and I had to manually power off even then. I am running Windows XP Service pack 2 on a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ system with 1214 mb mem 150 gig hdd.

View 3 Replies View Relatedmy Mom's computer is a HP Pavilion, she's using Windows XP (the original version and she hasn't updated from Microsoft since. when exactly did dinosaurs roam the earth? ) About two weeks ago, every time that she reboots it locks up the computer and you can hear the motor running constantly. When you go to shut it down a window comes up and asks for you to wait or end task, and the error is "Device10 Notification". The ONLY thing that she has put in recently is the HP 4 in 1 Copy/Scan/Print, but that was, at least, two weeks before the problem started. There is YET another error message that appears every once in a while, it's for HP Imaging Device, and you have to end task to get it to shut down, but this isn't a constant problem like the device10 is.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLike alot of people that build their own systems or constantly upgrade and switch out parts, I use a cracked copy of Windows XP on some of my builds. These are my own builds and if someone wants a new PC, the price of a genuine Windows OS is included in the price and they are given the disk. It is because of Microsofts asinine activation feature and the fact that I have 4 desktops and 2 laptops that I use the cracked copy. Anyways, my girlfriends dad's (a cop )laptop recently had a hard drive failure, and because he bought it with Windows preinstalled(no disk) he needed an OS. He didn't know any better and when I went over there last night to check on his laptop, up pops the MS genuine notification that has recently gone around.

View 7 Replies View Relatedfor a while when we first turn on our laptop it won't work, it is not responding. However, the windows task manager does not show anything not responding. My only way to fix this problem is to tell the computer to restart & I will then get a "not responding" message saying that "socket notification sink" is not responding. I tell it to end the program & restart & I sometimes have to go through this over & over & over again until the computer is responding. The biggest part of the problem is that I do not know what the heck "socket notification sink" is! And if I do a search for it nothing comes up & I don't see it in the programs in the control panel & I never see it on the "processes" tab of the windows task manager. Can anyone help? What is it, do I need it, how do I deal with this? I just need the frickin' computer to work when I turn it on, I don't have time for this some days!
