Resetting Administrator Password
Sep 30, 2008I have a laptop from my old company which I used to use to login to work.I have not used it for some time and I can't remember either my own password or the administrator password.My old company used Active Directory so I am not sure whether any of the solutions available on the internet would work because of Active Directory. Can anyone help me reset either my own password or the Administrator's password so that I can use this laptop? The OS is XP.

When I came back to that account on which I reset the password on, some of the things are reset. I noticed that one thing that is reset is the MSN Messenger background images. For the Background of MSN Messenger, I had other downloaded background pictures in the Backgrounds tab, but now I don't. There only saved in my folder.

Jan 15, 2006My account on my computer (Win XP Pro SP2) is an Administrator account. Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank).
Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.

Jul 8, 2005I log on with Administrator and no password. Is there a way to change the username. I know I can add a password, which I will do when I get a better name.I created a different username/password combination but they don't have any of the settings carefully created for "Administrator."

Nov 7, 2005Windows Recovery Console via the Win XP Pro OS disk. It starts fine. Asks which installation I want to repair. After entering the number corresponding to the installation that I want to repair, I am prompted to enter the admin's password. The problem is that it says my password is not valid I am the administrator and only user of the computer. I have always used the same password. I changed to a new password with same results. My only guess is that because this is a Compaq Presario with a permanent repair partition preconfigured as D: it will not allow use of the Microsoft Recovery Console.

The thing is, he got it from this old school, and he needs administrative control as right now, he can do almost nothing. He cant contact the school, and I tried looking for some password resetting or something but nothing.I just searched through almost all 50 topics of the "I lost my administrative password" topics, hoping to find an answer, and I did, but now I need help with that. I downloaded the CD version from my computer, extracted it, and burned the .iso file onto the cd. I put in the cd in the laptop, and nothing happened. So I rebooted, and nothing happened. I tried to open it, but it doesnt work with anything, so now it opens with Notepad, which doesn't do anything.

I used the 'Network Connections' wizard in the control panel. in this wizard i did input a passwrod as one of the fields needing filling in. I reset my computer - note i am using a different computer now! - and it asked me for a password to 'Log onto Windows'. i tried using the password i entered in above wizard set-up, but this is not working. have tried all variations but with nothing working. i cannot get into my computer! is there a way i can bypass this screen - i can see none! this is not an 'official' network that has been set up, so there is no administrator to re-set the password.
