A friend of mine changed his windows log on password for windows 2000 and can't remember it.He has a HP Pentium 3 computer. Is there anyway to bypass this window or is there a default administrator password or something he can do to get around it?
Whilst trying to set up a wireless connection on my PC, i inadvertently set up a network with my PC. not knowing what i had done. I used the 'Network Connections' wizard in the control panel. in this wizard i did input a passwrod as one of the fields needing filling in. I reset my computer - note i am using a different computer now! - and it asked me for a password to 'Log onto Windows'. i tried using the password i entered in above wizard set-up, but this is not working. have tried all variations but with nothing working. i cannot get into my computer! is there a way i can bypass this screen - i can see none! this is not an 'official' network that has been set up, so there is no administrator to re-set the password.
I changed my domain to a workgroup and now I cannot log in with the users name and the administrator password has been changed from the default. No one knows what the Admin password could be... Is there any other way to log in?
Forgotten Shortcut This shortcut is used as you log out of an account and will show the hidden administrator account icon [hidden by default] at the XP welcome screen.
had sp2 and other updates installed. uninstalled most of them because...well because i was trying to install older software that worked before sp2 was installed.. anyway, now big problem. suddenly xp asks for password to logon, and this is really strange, i have never in my life had a password for my computer. so obviously no matter what i enter, the computer asks politely if i've forgotten the password
I have WindowsXP Home with SP2 which i access via automatic logon. I now have a possible need to go back to using my password to logon.I may have forgotten the exact password. Is there a way that i can test for my password without losing my automatic logon?
My account on my computer (Win XP Pro SP2) is an Administrator account. Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank). Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.
Some of our systems got their default mail client reset to Outlook Express. Most of our users use Outlook, with a few using Thunderbird. It seems that only an Administrator can reset their default mail client through Internet Options.I came across article from Microsoft that says that only an Admin can change this after an admin sets it.I find if very hard to believe that our users cannot set their own default mail client after an admin sets it once. Does anyone know how to reset this so users can select their default clients
I log on with Administrator and no password. Is there a way to change the username. I know I can add a password, which I will do when I get a better name.I created a different username/password combination but they don't have any of the settings carefully created for "Administrator."
where is the Administrator Password in my XP home?.when I go:- " control pannel, user accounts, computer administator, create password " all the fields are empty & I presume there is no password set up.And yet when I need to use "Recover" in my XP CD, it says type "Administrator Password" which I have never entered when I installed XP & whatever I do I can never use this Recovery & start my PC.
I created an image a few weeks/month ago with TrueImage 8.0.When I clicked on the tib image file I had to recognize that it is password protected.Unfortunately I cannot remember this password. Most probably I selected the default password. Is there a default password?Otherwise are there any restriction for the passsword (length, using digits,..)
I have a hp873n multimedia computer. i used the system disks to reformat the hard drive and when i restart it, it ask for an administrator password although i have not assigned any PASSWORD. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET TO MY DESK TOP
I need to remove sotware from my computer but I don't have the Administrator password and that's the only Admin that I have. How can I reset the Admin password?
I'm trying to use the repair feature on my Windows XP Pro system. However, I am being asked for the admin password that I put in at setup...I did'nt put a password. When I try doing a system restore it wants a password to continue.
Windows Recovery Console via the Win XP Pro OS disk. It starts fine. Asks which installation I want to repair. After entering the number corresponding to the installation that I want to repair, I am prompted to enter the admin's password. The problem is that it says my password is not valid I am the administrator and only user of the computer. I have always used the same password. I changed to a new password with same results. My only guess is that because this is a Compaq Presario with a permanent repair partition preconfigured as D: it will not allow use of the Microsoft Recovery Console.
I have a laptop from my old company which I used to use to login to work.I have not used it for some time and I can't remember either my own password or the administrator password. My old company used Active Directory so I am not sure whether any of the solutions available on the internet would work because of Active Directory. Can anyone help me reset either my own password or the Administrator's password so that I can use this laptop? The OS is XP.
I have just gotten my friends laptop to fix up. It's a pretty big mess. The thing is, he got it from this old school, and he needs administrative control as right now, he can do almost nothing. He cant contact the school, and I tried looking for some password resetting or something but nothing.I just searched through almost all 50 topics of the "I lost my administrative password" topics, hoping to find an answer, and I did, but now I need help with that. I downloaded the CD version from my computer, extracted it, and burned the .iso file onto the cd. I put in the cd in the laptop, and nothing happened. So I rebooted, and nothing happened. I tried to open it, but it doesnt work with anything, so now it opens with Notepad, which doesn't do anything.
Now that you have all that information, I must write that I offer no support for such software since I am a big believer we must BACKUP before any dangerous forays with software we don't use a lot.
Okay, Well this is very easy and does not involve rebooting or logging off, BUT it requires Administrative Access. #1. Open up Command Prompt. #2. type in "net user Administrator (Password goes here)" (Without the quotes, And put in a password in place of the "(Password goes here)") So lets say you want to set the password to "computers", You would then type in: net user Administrator computers Simple as that! And doesn't involve rebooting!
After reading Joseph Doyle's submission regarding this I would like to point out that you can set a Guest account password by simply doing this. This method is somewhat simpler in that you do not have to mess around with CMD.exe.1. Make sure you are logged on as an Administrator.2. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.3. Select the "Users" folder under "Local Users and Groups".4. Right click on the "Guest" account and click "Set Password". When a dialog comes up warning you of the possible consequences click "Proceed". You will then be given a dialog that lets you set a new password.I have always considered security a top priority and considering the ease of doing this I would highly recommend that everyone sets a Guest account password. Even though the Guest account is disabled by default, why not do this just for the extra bit of security? Local Users and Groups is not available in XP Home. A way to set a password for the guest account in Home and Pro: click start - run - type: cmd - in the command window type: net user guest * - hit Enter - you will be prompted for the password to use.
I lost the password to my administrator's account on our home computer. I called microsoft & they told me they could not help. Is there any way to reset the password on my computer?

I have an administrator account and the guest account. Well my dad took my computer away from me for a while and he changed the password to the administrator account. The problem is, he can't remember what he changed the password to. I only have access to the guest account now, so I can't install or uninstall any unwanted programs, the quality is horrible and I don't have any of my music I've searched around for password reseting programs, but that doesn't help since I can't even install anything on the guest account. Is there any way I can retrieve my password My dad has sat down and tried all the possibilities he could think of, and so has my mom and I've spent hours trying all possibilities I can think of. No success. He thought it was "help kori" since the password hint is "mom and dad will". Is there any way to get my password back
