I changed my domain to a workgroup and now I cannot log in with the users name and the administrator password has been changed from the default. No one knows what the Admin password could be... Is there any other way to log in?
View 14 RepliesSome of our systems got their default mail client reset to Outlook Express.Most of our users use Outlook, with a few using Thunderbird.It seems that only an Administrator can reset their default mail client through Internet Options.I came across article from Microsoft that says that only an Admin can change this after an admin sets it.I find if very hard to believe that our users cannot set their own default mail client after an admin sets it once. Does anyone know how to reset this so users can select their default clients

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy account on my computer (Win XP Pro SP2) is an Administrator account. Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank).
Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.
As the Administrator on my home PC, I can print everything and anything, but none of my Limited account Users can print. They can see the printer and it shows that they are connecting to it, but nothing will print as long as they are logged in as a Limited User.
View 8 Replies View RelatedFollow the steps outlined below. Go to start/run type in regedit and click ok. Click on the HKEY_USERS branch (to highlight it). Select File on the menu/Load Hive. Navigate to x:Documents and SettingsDefault User folder (where x houses the Documents and Settings folder). The Default User folder is hidden by default. Open the ntuser.dat file. For the Key name: type in the word tweakxp (actually you can type in anything) and click ok. A new subkey named tweakxp will appear under the HKEY_USERS branch. Navigate to HKEY_USERS weakxp[remaining path to the restrictions/tweaks you want to set] Add in the applicable values and value data. Go back to the subkey tweakxp and click on it to highlight it.

When there was only 1 I could choose (my own), I thought i was stupid and wanted to change it. While screwing around with my user-account, I accidently changed my account from "administrator" to "limited user" and I cant figure out to change it back. I have to log on to an administrator account to do so, but cant log on anyone. I found out, there IS a user-account named "administrator" which funny enough is an administrator, but I cant log on on that account.

I had been running my computer just as the default 'Administrator' for awhile and finally decided that I would set up an account and rename my computer to something meaningful. I set up a new administrator account, but now all the files, etc that I had been using are gone. Are they really gone, or can I just not see them for some reason? There was no warning about files being deleted, etc, but after the reboot it's as if I just took the machine out of the box. Only the software is still visible, none of the files that I had saved to the hard drive. I am running Windows XP. I tried system restore, but after running it says that nothing has changed since the restore point from several days ago. Can anyone help with this? It seems surprising that all of this info would be automatically deleted, but I sure can't find it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a family PC running XP Home with six user accounts. All are administrator accounts and I prefer to keep them that way. The PC is firewalled and has AV and anti-spyware SW and I try to educate my family in safe computing practices.
My problem is that the 8, 11, and 15 y-o boys keep screwing up each others accounts (on purpose) by changing each other's passwords, or changing them to limited accounts. My 11 y-o for example, thinks his 8 y-o brother should not be allowed to install "Sponge Bob Whatever"; so he changes his account to limited. (Somehow he thinks it is ok though to install Limewire or Bearshare even after I tell him not to).Is there a way in XP Home to give users "Power User" privileges which will allow them to do most everything administrators can do, but not be able to access other user accounts?
My default (bolded) action when I right-click on a folder was recently changed to "Search...," and I can't seem to figure out how to change it back to "Open." I've tried folder options, and I haven't found a solution there

I just have issues with people on my computer due to things happening in the past. Just by this alone I should have not put him on then. I gave him a limited account. But he has blocked me from seeing what he has downloaded and such. I don't really care too much in the nosey sense but I like to know all of the goings on on my computer. I don't think that is unreasonable. I just want to make sure that nothing goes wrong with this computer. Porn is ok on here I just want to make sure that nothing illegal is going on. Is there anyway to look into his account without deleting it or changing the password. I am not looking to go through all of his files. Just check on the downloads and such.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have looked at the answers you have given for this subject, and none seem to apply to me. I lost my boot disks in the hurricane, and my son has somehow changed all the passwords, including the administrator one, and then locked the computer. When I reboot, even in safe mode, I come immediately to the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen. We have tried every password we could think of, and the users now just get the error that we've been locked out. I have tried every Administrator password I would have set, including no password at all, to no avail. So I cannot get to a command prompt even from Safe Mode.
Honestly, I would be happy to just reformat, but I can't even get to the DOS prompt, and I don't have a DOS reboot disk for this computer (lost too!). No other computers are running that version of XP, so I can't make one from one of those either.
If you want to go straight to the Desktop, go to Start>Run and type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes. Then select your account from the list, and uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". I tried to the user enter a username and password I unmark it but it couldn't type anything on it. Bob Augello isn't highlight either.

I'm running windows xp home edition. I don't know what happened exactly but for whatever reason, the computer simply restarted itself for no apparent reason and then it wouldn't boot the operating system correctly so I tried to get into safe mode to try and diagnose the problem. I checked the bios to see if any error messages or a log had been recorded but found nothing. When I finally got it to go into safe mode, My user name was gone and it just said "Guest" and wanted a password to log on. I am the only user of my computer and was the administrator until this happened. Even when I tried to log on as the administrator, it still wanted a password

Now upon start up everything is in something like wingdings but different. All of the characters are something else, so I cannot type in my password in start up.
