Im having problem with window xp sign up with the password. I think I have found a virus and the system would not let me turn off my computer. So I manually turned it off and when trying to log back on it has now changed my password or it wont let me in.
View 2 RepliesShutting down a game many of my desktop icons e.g. recycle bin, network environment and all the shortcut folder icons created by myself suddenly turned to square (undefined) default icons that are familiar to us from Windows 95. When I click 'My Computer' I discover that also the icon of drive C and the floppydisk 3,5 drive icon have changed to default icons. Additionally, all the standart yellow foldericons now show default icons.
Before I have occasionaly used register cleaning programmes such as the free CCleaner and the Uniblues shareware Registry Booster with no problems. I have always taken a complete backup of the Register in case something goes wrong. Also, I have understood that no change in the register takes effect unless you restart the computer. Am I wrong here?
After a quick check I notice that all the installed software function correctly. All written documents are there and they open correctly in their respective programmes. I've tried to change the icons by right clicking "properties/customise/change icon" but it doesn't work. The computer does not allow you to change the icons that vanished. When you try to change the icon, you are by default navigated to system 32 folder with shell32.dll file. I presume this is the main icon library of xp. All the pictures are present there but those that are "broken" approx. 12 of them showed at the beginning of the list cannot be used anymore, for instance the standard yellow folder icon among them. The rest of the icons (say 100 or more of them) are available..............
My OS is XP SP2. Since I changed my windows password 2 days ago, I was being automatically logged out several times a day while I am still logging in. When it happened, i just couldn't go to any network drive. I was told that I still have process that is still running under the old password. How do I debug from my machine?

I don't know what happened exactly but for whatever reason, the computer simply restarted itself for no apparent reason and then it wouldn't boot the operating system correctly so I tried to get into safe mode to try and diagnose the problem. I checked the bios to see if any error messages or a log had been recorded but found nothing. When I finally got it to go into safe mode, My user name was gone and it just said "Guest" and wanted a password to log on. I am the only user of my computer and was the administrator until this happened. Even when I tried to log on as the administrator, it still wanted a password
View 1 Replies View RelatedI started my computer this morning and my system font apparently changed somehow. I was loading new fonts last night before I shut down. Now upon start up everything is in something like wingdings but different. All of the characters are something else, so I cannot type in my password in start up. What can i do now, since I cannot get into windows to change my password.I tried the double cntl-alt-del at start up. That brought me to the start up screen with recognizable characters, but my password did not open windows.
I changed my domain to a workgroup and now I cannot log in with the users name and the administrator password has been changed from the default. No one knows what the Admin password could be... Is there any other way to log in?

Of course without it she can't print. This has also happened occasionally when she opens an application, the spoolsv will hit 100%. Does anyone have any ideas? I need to get her printing again.

View 1 Replies View Relatedonce the on button was pushed, it came up with the BIOS screen asking for the password.I removed the CMOS battery, which allowed me to change the Password so I can get onto BIOS now. However, when I boot now it just comes up with the BIOS screen.I set HD to boot first, aswell as setting the clock and date. I then ask it to save and quit, after which it shut's down, and reboots, only, BIOS keeps coming up. And I need to get this sorted asap

Since then, my search engines have changed (when I search from the IE address bar, it uses MSN search now), and many pages that load, although faster, have the message "error on page" at the bottom. Outlook Express became my default email with the Road Runner email address, but most of the time it does not respond. Also, several games are slow to respond or do not respond at all (specifically CSI games and Hunting Unlimited). I run adaware and spybot at least once a week if not more, and defrag regularly. Are there extra precautions I should take with a cable connection?

When I get onto the Microsoft website and try to add updates manualy, the site checks out my PC system to see what os system im running (i presume), then I get 2 options, 1 to install custom updates and 1 for download priority. If I click on either I get a bar with moving green dots in telling me itschecking for latest updates on my computer. It does not stop! And when I press the Back link or close it just about freezes my whole pc, even Ctrl, Alt & delete does not work

Just yesterday it started acting up by when I went to shut it down (and it does this every time now) it says "ending program "sprtcmd.exe" , then unable to end program, so I have to end manually EVERY DARN TIME. This just started with shut down last nite. I did a system restore and that fixed it, BUT then my McCaffee Antivirus program said it can not load due to an error, basically the antivirus program got all screwed up, so I UN-DID the restore. Now the antivirus works well but the stupid "sprtcmd.exe" problem is back! So I did that about 5 times picking different System Restore points each time and for some reason the McCafee screws up, so I had to undo each one.

On this particular game, every once and a while it will freeze up on me and the only way to get out is to manually turn off my pc and then turn it back on again. When I turn it back on my pc does some kind of a scan and tells me that the NTFS volume is dirty. I have never seen this term used before. I am running a Dell with Windows XP sp2. I understand that it was for her own protection as she can't execute any viruses, but it needs to be disabled to allow her to upgrade her flash player. I know the work around is to download the standalone file and manually remove the .pdf but would prefer to nip the problem in the bud.

Needless to say I was thrilled, but I machine to use as a Linux file server, but this Windows XP installation was too valuable for me to simply discard. I took out the hard drive and placed it another computer. The computer boots windows XP, then 2 seconds later it blue screens and reboots (much too quickly for me to read the error message)
I'm thinking here, the obvious problem is that I took a Windows XP installation and changed all the hardware on it and it didn't have the drivers for it. I attempted to run the recovery console from a Windows XP installation disc and it asked me for the administrator password. The drivers are on the XP disc somewhere, I would like to know how to install them manually (using a Linux boot disc to move files from the XP installation disc to the hard drive)
I downloaded a bunch of spyware by mistake this morning from a link my friend gave to me, he was unaware as well. I was able to get rid of the majority of it, but there are a few things in my registry i am unable to delete, i used spy bot to get rid of most of the spy ware but for some reason it is not detecting the rest, also ad aware detects it but is unable to remove it since it is running in the background, i am unable to find the processs from task manager and end it so i cant delete it from the registry manually. What it is doing is bascially spamming pop ups on my pc every so often, here are the suspected names of the infections : mpise.dll , h22o0cf3ef2.dll , h62o0gf3e62.dll.
