Several items I've tried to update give me an error message " Can not update can not connect to server ". I don't know what's going on. There's no firewall blockage problem, my Anti virus is affected, my Gmail account won't check mail or new open mail. Not sure who else is affected, have been getting Microsoft downloads as recent as this morning.

This usually happens as I shut down, when I have notification that updates are being downloaded and installed and the computer will shut itself off afterwards.All has been well until this week. I found that there were still 2 updates waiting for installation. I checked the little sheild and tried to download and install manually. I had a 'failed' notice.The two updates are - Microsoft excel 2003 KB955466 and Microsoft Outlook 2003 junk email filter KB957257.I am not too worried about these as I do not use Outlook, and rarely use excel. However, I do not know why they are failing.

My computer recently changed when I start up my computer by pushing the start botton it would boot up and show my selected background screen and then I could click on my ISP Icon on my desktop to go online. My problem is when I now push the computer start botton my computer boots up but then shows a blue background screen with My Name and NO password which I never supplied, but I have to click O K and then it brings up my selected background screen to enable to
click on my ISP Icon to go online. I have went into User Accounts and have found NO WAY to remove my Name. I have recently set my computer up to go on my DSL online automatically and it won't until I click O K on the user box.
Is there a way to manually download all the updates that have been installed and save them for later? lets say Because I plan to use WINXP HOME SP2 for a long LONG time,and want to make sure they are available to me.OR I have a computer not hooked to the internet but still ofcourse want all the updates.

Happens during a simple COPY/PASTE routine. We get this error code copying anything into WORD.
Both systems have more than enough "resources" available.
Both systems run XP Pro and have all the latest updates.
My system has 1.5GB RAM hers has 1GB Ram. There's more than enough HDD space available as well
The last windows update that I can see is KB 905474 and was downloaded by my automatic updates.I can see it when going to windows updates/view history. Trouble is, I cannot see it in my add/remove list. does auto updates only download security updates and I assume I dont have to do anything.

Just recently reinstalled windows and reformatted and was in the process of gradually getting everything set up and installed, when my drive disappeared. I don't know exactly when, but it was gone. I checked the device manager and it said the driver was corrupted, no updated driver available, so I uninstalled and restarted. Upon restart, Windows recognizes the drive and begins to install it

But if they use outlook they can receive both attachment and email message. As these users are of different companies i suspect the problem is the settings on my side. I click on it to have in installed and after a while the installation freezes. I tried to restart the PC... but could not do it. I had to cut off the power to shut it down. I'm trying to find an answer for a friend of mine that recently upgraded his computer from windows 98 se to windows xp prof. One problem I can't seem to solve for him is that I can't get his system to go into standby mode. I receive this error: On a computer that has an ATI Rage Pro accelerated graphics port (AGP) 2X video adapter installed, when you attempt to put the computer into Standby mode, you may receive the following error message: The device driver for the "ATI Technologies, Inc. 3D RAGE PRO AGP 2X" device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver. This behavior occurs because Windows XP does not provide power management support for this video adapter. I've already updated his driver to this one: Windows XP Display Driver version 5.10.2600.6010 And I still receive the same message..I'm really wondering if it's something else causing it.

When I get onto the Microsoft website and try to add updates manualy, the site checks out my PC system to see what os system im running (i presume), then I get 2 options, 1 to install custom updates and 1 for download priority. It's telling me the host cannot be found, to check that the server name is entered correctly. This began immediately after I clicked the stop button while I was downloading mail and then clicked on send/receive a minute later. My connection to the internet is fine. I checked all the vital information, POP3, SMTP, my password, everything. I removed all the information from my account and reinstalled it, still the same error!

Just yesterday it started acting up by when I went to shut it down (and it does this every time now) it says "ending program "sprtcmd.exe" , then unable to end program, so I have to end manually EVERY DARN TIME. This just started with shut down last nite. I did a system restore and that fixed it, BUT then my McCaffee Antivirus program said it can not load due to an error, basically the antivirus program got all screwed up, so I UN-DID the restore. Now the antivirus works well but the stupid "sprtcmd.exe" problem is back! So I did that about 5 times picking different System Restore points each time and for some reason the McCafee screws up, so I had to undo each one.
