I tried to repair the XP and been requested for password. As far as i remember there is no password set. Mine is Dell. Tried to install to other folder and it work. The problem now is, I cannot get the program installed in the first installed XP.

I have a non starting xp, which I suspect needs a Fixboot or Fixmbr.As I inherited this machine, I have no way of knowing the Administrator password it asks for when booting from xp cd and choosing repair.

Keep in mind:I have no access to reboot with the original motherboard(fried) I have 4 Legal copies of XP on 4 computers (including the fried one) I have lost the disk and the XP serial number for that machine. I still have 2 OEM and one Upgrade XP disks So Eventually I am going to have to deal with the serial number issue I think (hope not) System 7 is not an option I need to fix this now and I do not want and illegal copy of the beta
Ive been trying to run the XP home repair facility. I keep getting asked for the administrator password, but nothing I enter is recognized. Ive set the supervisor & user passwords in the BIOS & the administrator password in control panel/user accounts doesnt help. Ive disabled all three above still doesnt help.What password is it asking for, how do I find it, & how do I reset it to something I will remember for next time I need it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst off, i have a 60gb ide drive for my windows installation (3 other drives for storage), and i got a 150gb Raptor X, which is sata. I cloned the 60gb boot drive onto the raptor, but it didnt boot, and said the HAL was corrupt. My guess would be that the hardware abstraction layer got all defunct when it saw the new sata drive, but was expecting an ide? After all that, i decided to run a chkdsk on the ide drive, and clone it again, to see if it booted. I used the recovery console on a windows xp pro disc, but alas, i couldnt chkdsk because i forgot my admin password. Stupid me.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a program to block my internet at night so I can get back in to a normal routine. The only problem is I can simpley go in to task manager and end process and repair connection and i can do what I want again. I want to stop me from using computer at night so i can get in to a good happier routine. In order to stop me acessing program i passworded it with password i could not remember off top of my head, tried to make it as random as possible. but because i can just go in process and end it... its kinda pointless.
I left it so I can uninstall it because well there maybe a valid reason why I need to uninstall it sometime... and i know better then to never leave one safe clause. I know I wont uninstall it tho but because its so easy to just go to processes and end it... its just to easy. So I wanted away in which I can block processes from been closed or hide it so I can't close it like that.
Several items I've tried to update give me an error message " Can not update can not connect to server ". I don't know what's going on. There's no firewall blockage problem, my Anti virus is affected, my Gmail account won't check mail or new open mail. Not sure who else is affected, have been getting Microsoft downloads as recent as this morning.

Happens during a simple COPY/PASTE routine. We get this error code copying anything into WORD.
Both systems have more than enough "resources" available.
Both systems run XP Pro and have all the latest updates.
My system has 1.5GB RAM hers has 1GB Ram. There's more than enough HDD space available as well
I have a Lite-On SHW-160P6S DVD drive. Just recently reinstalled windows and reformatted and was in the process of gradually getting everything set up and installed, when my drive disappeared. I don't know exactly when, but it was gone. I checked the device manager and it said the driver was corrupted, no updated driver available, so I uninstalled and restarted. Upon restart, Windows recognizes the drive and begins to install it

View 2 Replies View RelatedProblems started was when i updated my Zone Alarm firewall, windows works absolutely fine no problems what so ever, then next time i reboot it does the same, this time problems are non-stop until about 10% then fine from there on in, then when it finishes repairing the drive it gets stuck at repairing unreadable security descriptions date stream.
It also said whilst recovering orphaned files insufficient disk space to recover lost files. It stopped for a while then carried on. After scan disk it restarted and wouldn't load windows, just got stuck on windows loading screen forever, eventually 15+ minutes i pressed reset as there was no disk activity.
I recently had a bad hard drive (It need the windows xp cd to boot) and saw that the problem was bad blocks. I decide to buy a new hard drive and use ghost to clone it. But, now i have the same problem with the new hard drive. After a while, i realize that obviously, if the disk was cloned, ONLY the information that can be copied was transfered to the other one.In conclusion, how can I resolve this issue without using system repair. the problem is that once i use this tool and then IE won't work. at last I had to format the drive.

The hand cursor never becomes a cursor for me to type in passowords to user accounts. I went into safe mode and then into control panel and deleted the passwords for each user acct and now I can get into the accounts but how can I add the passwords again and be able to type them in. We have 3 user accounts on this pc and would like to have them password protected.

Spybot Search and Destroy flashed up and I clicked to allow, or not allow as the case may be, to do something to, from what I can remember, 'WLON' or something similarly named. In any case, what happens now is that I fire up the computer, enter my password, the desktop briefly flashes up for a split second(no icons) and then it immediately logs off and goes to password entry again.

Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank).
Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.
I got Compaq Armada 1592 Its screen said password expired, enter old password, then the new password. I entered old password, tried all sorts of combinations of upper case, lower case I thought I could just bypass that screen and start as new user, but apparently
not.
I am currently trying to set up a log in for xp where the user changes based upon only the password you enter. in other words there will only be one user and it will change based upon the password you enter. i also want to be able to tell who logged on and when.
for example say i setting up a business computer that 20 people will use but i don't want 20 accounts i only want one and each people will have a different password and based upon the password they enter i will be able to tell who downloaded what and installed what by knowing who logged on. thanks for the help

My Brother bought a used laptop from a stranger but it works and everything but the password. Here are more details: It's a Dell Inspiron 2100 and the operating system is windows 2000 professional. The laptop does not include a CD or Floppy drive but it has 1 USB port. now when my Brother bought the laptop we powered it on and it worked fine until a "Log On to Windows" box appear and you need to type a user name and password to log in but we don't have the password and we cannot contact the guy he bought the laptop from so what should we do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I tried to update my families pc to SP2 so I could get all the updates etc. It seemed to install alright, but then when starting up it gave me some drwatson.exe error which ended up freezing the pc. So I did what I thought was safest at the time and that was to go back to a restore point and then maybe try reinstall SP2. BUT, after restoring, windows suddenly showed the password/log on screens. I now can't log on as Administrator OR Guest. Nothing works. I've tried EVERY possible password that I could have used in the passed, but nothing works. So now I can't get into the pc at all. I've tried booting up in safe mode and logging in as administrator with a blank password, but that doesn't even work. I've read a lot about it online, and it seems the only solution would be to reinstall XP. But would that work as a format and erase some of my files and/or settings? Or would it just be like an upgrade?

However, today, the computer did not startup smoothly until after running 'system checkup' automatically. Then, when the logon page came, I click 'Default' but it asked for password. I have a laptop with a proprietary CD that will only reformat the hard drive and load a ghost XP operating system. Is there any way to repair XP without having a MS XP disk, short of buying a MS XP system disk? By the way, I cannot stress enough the importance of backups. I use an external USB HD and do weekly full and daily differentials with NTBACKUP. When my laptop HD crashed, I was able to easily recover 100% of my files (less XP restore points, of course).

Briefly my PC keeps looping on start up, it won't start in safe mode, last known config etc, so after reading here I've popped in a XP CD to do a repair but from instructions I didn't chose the 'r' function but pressed 'enter' to start the setup. I accepted the licence agreement and the PC found 2 partitions but I don't get the option to 'repair'. All I can do is 'end' the setup as I don't want to wipe my data
View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from xp pro sp2 to sp3 and after that computer was very slow. So I repaired SP3 and during that process it started asking for 'asms' file. Even though the sp3 cd(which i burnt from a ISO image) had the asms folder it does seem to sense the cd. I am really stuck now because, even if I reboot my pc without the cd it goes to windows setup asks for 'asms' file. Even in safe mode it says windows setup cannot proceed in safe mode it reboots.Kindly help me on what can I do now so that either i can get thru with the 'asms' file or is there a way I can revert back to sp2 and do any possible recovery so that I can go into windows and backup my files.
