Asks For Password / I've Forgotten The Password
Aug 29, 2005had sp2 and other updates installed. uninstalled most of them because...well because i was trying to install
older software that worked before sp2 was installed.. anyway, now big problem. suddenly xp asks for password to logon, and this is really strange, i have never in my life had a password for my computer. so obviously no matter what i enter, the computer asks politely if i've forgotten the password

Dec 21, 2007Whilst trying to set up a wireless connection on my PC, i inadvertently set up a network with my PC. not knowing what i had done. I used the 'Network Connections' wizard in the control panel. in this wizard i did input a passwrod as one of the fields needing filling in. I reset my computer - note i am using a different computer now! - and it asked me for a password to 'Log onto Windows'. i tried using the password i entered in above wizard set-up, but this is not working. have tried all variations but with nothing working. i cannot get into my computer! is there a way i can bypass this screen - i can see none! this is not an 'official' network that has been set up, so there is no administrator to re-set the password.

Recovery On Advent 7093 - Forgotten
Sep 23, 2009Recently I've been having trouble my Advent 7093. I think due to a virus. I keep getting stuck in a perpetual loop of windows failing to start. As there was nothing particulary on the laptop that I needed to keep I thought I would just do a full system restore. However, when I tried pressing F10 during start up nothing happened (no matter how many times I pressed it!) So i ordered a recovery disk from The Tech Guys expecting that when i started my laptop with the disk in the drive it would automatically take me into system recovery.
It doesn't! I just get a screen saying....

Error! PC System not supported
press any key to continue
when I phoned The Tech Guys for help they told me that for some reason my Advent no longer thinks that it's an Advent and that I'd need to take it to a PC World to be 'fixed' Has anyone else had an experience like this? is there anyway I can sort this out without having to take the laptop in?

Dec 29, 2005I have just installed a linksys wireless router onto my desktop computer to add a wireless laptop and for some reason, when the User Logon screen comes up. The hand cursor never becomes a cursor for me to type in passowords to user accounts. I went into safe mode and then into control panel and deleted the passwords for each user acct and now I can get into the accounts but how can I add the passwords again and be able to type them in. Spybot Search and Destroy flashed up and I clicked to allow, or not allow as the case may be, to do something to, from what I can remember, 'WLON' or something similarly named. Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.

Jun 2, 2010I am currently trying to set up a log in for xp where the user changes based upon only the password you enter. in other words there will only be one user and it will change based upon the password you enter. i also want to be able to tell who logged on and when.
for example say i setting up a business computer that 20 people will use but i don't want 20 accounts i only want one and each people will have a different password and based upon the password they enter i will be able to tell who downloaded what and installed what by knowing who logged on. thanks for the help

Here are more details: It's a Dell Inspiron 2100 and the operating system is windows 2000 professional. The laptop does not include a CD or Floppy drive but it has 1 USB port. now when my Brother bought the laptop we powered it on and it worked fine until a "Log On to Windows" box appear and you need to type a user name and password to log in but we don't have the password and we cannot contact the guy he bought the laptop from so what should we do?

Jan 23, 2006A few days ago I tried to update my families pc to SP2 so I could get all the updates etc. It seemed to install alright, but then when starting up it gave me some drwatson.exe error which ended up freezing the pc. So I did what I thought was safest at the time and that was to go back to a restore point and then maybe try reinstall SP2. BUT, after restoring, windows suddenly showed the password/log on screens. I now can't log on as Administrator OR Guest. Nothing works. I've tried EVERY possible password that I could have used in the passed, but nothing works. So now I can't get into the pc at all. I've tried booting up in safe mode and logging in as administrator with a blank password, but that doesn't even work. I've read a lot about it online, and it seems the only solution would be to reinstall XP. But would that work as a format and erase some of my files and/or settings? Or would it just be like an upgrade?

So if I'm not in the correct forum would someone put this where it belongs? I put a new password in my Windows I guess it was and now everytime I leave my computer for a little while my screen comes on and then I have to put the password in again. I didn't have to do that with the first password I used, I just had to click on the Ok. Is there someway I can do that again?

More often than not, when she tries to connect she is asked for her password ( we have tried clicking remember password!) but then is told it is not recognised. After several tries worth of helpline phone calls they take her thru the whole setting up procedure again & she is connected.
A few days later the same thing happens again!
Is this a money making ploy by Tiscali? Or is there something ( virus?) that could be causing the password to become unrecognised?

I am running a program called Ceres (uses internet explorer) and even though I have told windows to remember my username and password, it still pops up everytime and ask for it. This wouldn't bother me too much, but other programs I use off a server which require a login also refuse to work. I have to go into that drive and type in the password before windows allows me to open it. I have reset the password option many times, but still no luck.
