I have XP pro and have been trying to change the name of the name in Outlook Express from MAIN IDENTITY to Len and I have ended up with 2 names and Main ID and Len will not delete and if I ask it to start in Main ID I get this message, THE CURRENT IDENTITY COULD NOT BE CHANGED BECAUSE ONE OF THE APPLICATIONS WAS UNABLE TO SWITCH. CLOSE ANY DIALOGUE BOXES IN OTHER APPLICATIONS BEFORE TRYING AGAIN. I have nothing else open how to get back to main and get rid of Len.

I have two different identities in Window XP home. Something happened and the system crashed and my husband's identity was lost. It still appears on the log in page, but his settings, desktop, bookmarks, e-mail are lost.

computer constructed by a computer company Comtex, windows xp, 512 ram, 40 gb. It has been running slow and freezing up some, today while trying to run spyware, it is slower than molasses, over 7 hours and still not done. In addition, I can not open any internet windows or access it at all from my user id , and yes I am over loaded with programs and photos on my poor harddrive. So after restarting it about 30 times, I try my son's identity and I can access the internet, last night IE was almost impossible, but firefox was better. I did download a file from photobucket, which I did not install and then I uninstalled it. I also have uninstalled and reinstalled yahoo messenger a couple times, thinking that was freezing it up, I added the google toolbar just recently and the ym, seems to conflict anytime I download a new program, so as of now It is uninstalled.

I was putting some mp3s from a folder onto iTunes. iTunes decided to be rude and delete some of the data, so I went back and fixed it... then, I clicked over to F:/, and lo and behold, suddenly it thought it was a music folder, and had even taken on the details view of the music folder I was just in! My Documents also thinks it's a music folder now,
My hard drive was all messed up anyway, so I thought that was just what caused it. It had also put some of my album images on random system folders, the hard drive's been replaced now, and it's happened again.

Dell with Windows XP Professional on it and 160 GB hard drive. When I got the computer home I went right into the Administrator Identity and began to use the computer. I was thrilled with it, so much harddrive and 512 MB Ram. After I had put a lot of my data on the computer I thought I might try another identity for other uses. So I went in to create a new identity. When I had finished with the new Identity the original Administration Identity that I had been working with for months no longer existed. After much consternation I did a system restore and got my original identity back. But what I want to know is how can I create a new identity without losing everything in the original Identity and I realize I should have gone on through Administrator to create the first identity. The original thread for this question has been closed.

I keep my OS and data on separate drives, so all of my emails are still there, my account settings and address book should be as well. Importing everything into the new install of Firefox was a piece of cake. Everything, even the last sites I had open, imported without any issues. Outlook Express is proving more ... annoying. Microsoft's support site explains how to create new profiles, switch between those new profiles... none of which I need to do. I need to import my old Identity, from my data drive, into Outlook Express 6. I don't mean import the messages (there's not even room for them on the new partition), I just need to link the existing identity on the data drive to the new XP / Outlook Express installation.

The hand cursor never becomes a cursor for me to type in passowords to user accounts. I went into safe mode and then into control panel and deleted the passwords for each user acct and now I can get into the accounts but how can I add the passwords again and be able to type them in. We have 3 user accounts on this pc and would like to have them password protected.

I was doing a clean up with Ccleaner etc and in my haste I did not take note of what I was clicking. Spybot Search and Destroy flashed up and I clicked to allow, or not allow as the case may be, to do something to, from what I can remember, 'WLON' or something similarly named. In any case, what happens now is that I fire up the computer, enter my password, the desktop briefly flashes up for a split second(no icons) and then it immediately logs off and goes to password entry again.

My account on my computer (Win XP Pro SP2) is an Administrator account. Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank).
Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.

older software that worked before sp2 was installed.. anyway, now big problem. suddenly xp asks for password to logon, and this is really strange, i have never in my life had a password for my computer. so obviously no matter what i enter, the computer asks politely if i've forgotten the password

A few days ago I tried to update my families pc to SP2 so I could get all the updates etc. It seemed to install alright, but then when starting up it gave me some drwatson.exe error which ended up freezing the pc. So I did what I thought was safest at the time and that was to go back to a restore point and then maybe try reinstall SP2. BUT, after restoring, windows suddenly showed the password/log on screens. I now can't log on as Administrator OR Guest. Nothing works. I've tried EVERY possible password that I could have used in the passed, but nothing works. So now I can't get into the pc at all. I've tried booting up in safe mode and logging in as administrator with a blank password, but that doesn't even work. I've read a lot about it online, and it seems the only solution would be to reinstall XP. But would that work as a format and erase some of my files and/or settings? Or would it just be like an upgrade?

For a long time, I log on to my Windows XP by clicking on 'Default' without any problem. However, today, the computer did not startup smoothly until after running 'system checkup' automatically. Then, when the logon page came, I click 'Default' but it asked for password. I did try some words or left it blank but XP would not let me logon.

It's been quite sometime since I've been on the forums and I'm still a new user and don't know a lot of things about computers. So if I'm not in the correct forum would someone put this where it belongs? I put a new password in my Windows I guess it was and now everytime I leave my computer for a little while my screen comes on and then I have to put the password in again. I didn't have to do that with the first password I used, I just had to click on the Ok. Is there someway I can do that again?

my mum is running XP with Tiscali broadband. More often than not, when she tries to connect she is asked for her password ( we have tried clicking remember password!) but then is told it is not recognised. After several tries worth of helpline phone calls they take her thru the whole setting up procedure again & she is connected.
A few days later the same thing happens again!
Is this a money making ploy by Tiscali? Or is there something ( virus?) that could be causing the password to become unrecognised?
