View 9 Replies View RelatedCan anyone tell me what happens when the local administrator password on a PC Windows XP Pro/Windows 2000 Pro) is expired? From experience I know that you receive a prompt asking if you want to reset the password or not. Does this just pop-up forever or would you eventually be locked out of the local administrator account if the password wasn't reset? Is there any kind of official documentation about this out there? I've looked on TechNet but am not having much luck locating information. Also, does anyone know the registry key to set an expiration interval?

View 9 Replies View RelatedIf I RE-INSTALL XP again, will it give me 30 more days? All I need is a few hours, actually, because all I want is to get my stuff off the drive and be done with it...if we're able to do that, we'll probably subsequently give the machine away or sell it for cheap and let somebody else buy a copy of windows for it...so, if I were to re-install XP again, would it give me more time? Also, would there be a way to install the OS without formatting the whole drive (so that my files, pics, etc aren't written over)? If I were to install something like Windows ME, which I'm told doesn't need to be activated, could I retrieve my files THAT way? Or would it have to reformat the whole drive?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy EZ security software expired and within a couple of days I couldn't access the Internet. I have since installed Norton 2006 and ran a scan but I still can't access. I can use Outlook Express OK though. I followed instructions off another site which is recommended before posting a HijackThis log. I ran the ATF Cleaner, then created a restore point. I then ran Ad-aware SE bt couldn't run the webupdate feature as I have no internet connection due to this problem. I ran the scan anyway. I then ran AVG Anti-spyware though again couldn't update the definition files because I couldn't connect due to the problem I have. I ran the scan anyway. I couldn't run the Panda Activescan because I again can't connect. I have attached the report from the AVG Anti-spyware scan along with the HijackThis report and uninstall_list. I am posting this from my friends PC so will have to go back and forward to do what you recommend.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was doing a clean up with Ccleaner etc and in my haste I did not take note of what I was clicking. Spybot Search and Destroy flashed up and I clicked to allow, or not allow as the case may be, to do something to, from what I can remember, 'WLON' or something similarly named. In any case, what happens now is that I fire up the computer, enter my password, the desktop briefly flashes up for a split second(no icons) and then it immediately logs off and goes to password entry again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy account on my computer (Win XP Pro SP2) is an Administrator account. Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank).
Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.
I currently have Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite 6 & it is due to expire in about 8 days. I was wondering what others of you used for anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewalls etc.I have heard that sometimes it's not the best idea to use a complete package, like ZA internet security suite, for the whole lot You hear a lot of conflicting info about them all, I've heard that AVG is good, Norton isn't, someone said windows defender was good.

for example say i setting up a business computer that 20 people will use but i don't want 20 accounts i only want one and each people will have a different password and based upon the password they enter i will be able to tell who downloaded what and installed what by knowing who logged on. thanks for the help
had sp2 and other updates installed. uninstalled most of them because...well because i was trying to install
older software that worked before sp2 was installed.. anyway, now big problem. suddenly xp asks for password to logon, and this is really strange, i have never in my life had a password for my computer. so obviously no matter what i enter, the computer asks politely if i've forgotten the password
My Brother bought a used laptop from a stranger but it works and everything but the password. Here are more details: It's a Dell Inspiron 2100 and the operating system is windows 2000 professional. The laptop does not include a CD or Floppy drive but it has 1 USB port. now when my Brother bought the laptop we powered it on and it worked fine until a "Log On to Windows" box appear and you need to type a user name and password to log in but we don't have the password and we cannot contact the guy he bought the laptop from so what should we do?
