is it a good idea to clean the registery say after 3 months of usage or after 4- 5 uninstallation of the softwares. Generally there are lots of registery cleaners avaliable claiming to boost the windows speed,but is it recomended by windows ? even if proper mode of un installations is carried out. I was able to get internet explorer but wasnt sure what AntiSpyware to get . I just ran a scan from windows live and it detected 30 viruses so far. DO i need adware and spyware. The download didn't have the handbook which i found out later i needed so now after running dup. file finder, reg cleaner. View 9 Replies View RelatedMy box runs Windows XP Service Pack 2 32-bit home edition with AMD Athlon, Maxtor (ribbon cable'd, not SATA) with 3 sticks of 512MB DDR2 RAM. I haven't touched the hardware in about a month and a half.
Symptoms:
Shows the windows XP pro login randomally; once logged in, background shows, explorer.exe doesn't run, and no windows hot keys respond. (every 1/8 boots)
Services and programs randomally quit out and will not run. Restarting them results in another crash
My main computer's installation of windows (XP Home Edition OEM SP2) is completely dead. Due to a driver problem (to do with having alcohol 120% and daemon tools installed) it resolutely refuses to boot up, even in safe mode. I've tried everything to fix it, including several repair installatios of windows and much rummaging around with the recovery console, but it's gone, I need to reinstall.
Windows is installed on it's own partition, so I don't mind terribly having to reinstall, but one thing I'm annoyed about is having to reinstall all my programs (that are on their own partition too) when I lose the registry.
