i ran active kill disc program to erase local disc c then went to bios and changed boot device order saved changes and reboot now system wont boot from cd i get error loading operating system msg

I am going to install windows 7 after this. I am wondering if I should install windows vista then upgrade to windows 7 or just upgrade to windows 7 from xp. Well my last child is a smarty and she got a ("full boot") paid scholarship to college for upcoming Sept. So wife said go ahead, I bought a Dell, the PC desktop I have always wanted. Now my question, I have had the Dimension E-510 for about a month, I love it, really, from day I took it out of box just perfect! It has XP's Media OS on it. It also has so much "junk" I'm wondering if I should do a Clean Install of the OS. I bought the Operating System on a CD when I purchased the PC. Am I nuts or should I just leave well enough alone? I didn't get a Floopy drive so I guess I would just Boot with the OS CD in it.
I have recently done a clean Windows XP Install followed by installing Service Pack 1 then 3.Everything was running smoothly and I was able to log into the desktop.However when I tried to check for updates via Windows update, in Internet explorer however it always says the 'Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage'After diagnosing the issue, it found no problems.I can browse any other website but sometimes when I click on an item through doing a google search, it sometimes sends me to a random search engine page!!

Last week I installed Windows 7 beta to have a look, however after realising I would be unable to connect it to the internet due to security restrictions with my University Internet service provider. I decided to install Win XP Pro with the plan to dual boot it with ubuntu. (btw I was very impressed with my short look at Windows 7.) I deleted all partitions and made a new one on my master disk and formatted to NTFS. Installation went fine. However after the compulsory installation reboot the Windows Loading splash screen apears but nothing happens, I never even see the loading bar. I have now tried to install win xp pro a number of times, I am unable to boot in to safe mode, I have performed CHKDSK in the recovery console and FIXBOOT, however to no avail. I'm really stumped as to why I can't get windows to load, I the know the disc is fine as it has been used successfully in the past.

Replace the disk and then press any key"I have already changed my BIOS so that it boots from the CD first. Not sure what the problem is? prior to that error message, it states that I should "press any key to boot from CD"...when I try to push a key nothing happens. I know my keyboard works since I used it to enter the BIOS.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a five year old dell dimensions 8200. Three years ago, I added a 250 gig. D-drive. My computer has been so slow that I wanted to reinstall windows. So, erased and formatted my D-drive and put windows on it. I then added a program called "Wipe Drive" in order to erase my C-drive. (I was thinking to use my d-drive mainly and c-drive for backup). I closed my computer, then when I went to reboot, i first got the message "ntldr is missing press control alt delete." So, I did this. I soon did not get the ntlrd message and got a message saying failure to boot and press contol, alt, delete to restart. I tried to instal windows again and it did not boot. I did the f2 thing and made sure my cd-rom was first. I did the f12 thing and tried to open cd. Nothing has worked to help boot or get to the blue screen that lets me choose drive.I think I erased important start up info on my c-drive.

Yesterday while looking at EBAY, the screen went black, and the computer locked up.Thru trials, I ended up reformating the HD and starting from scratch. XP starts the installation and at 37 minutes left to install, everything freezes. I have to restart and XP installation begins again at about 47 minutes left to install, then at 37 minutes left to finish, the system locks again, and again, again, and again, at 37 minutes to finish.

I bought 2 SATA HDDs and would like to set them up as RAID and clean install XP and all the drivers/programs on them. I don't want to use those image drive programs to transfer the old drive to the new drive. My old HDD has XP on it (activated) and I would like to format it and use it for data storage later. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am unable to reinstall my HP printer driver and accompanying software and after spending more than enough time trying to remedy the problem, I've decided to reload Windows XP either by a clean install or a reinstall per this thread. I hope to get some advice here.The details that led to the problem of being unable to install my printer drivers and my attempts to remedy the problem are very long and drawn out and may not be relevant to this post or my desired solution, so I will not go through them unless requested. Suffice it to say that I have spent a good 30 hours attempting to remedy the problem, with a good portion of that time spent with free HP Support. None of their "fixes" or any of my own attempts after lots of research have been successful.

Will I be able to refer to the Documents and Settings folder during a clean install, so that all of the current settings will load? If not, is there a solution for getting the current settings loaded into the clean XP install?
In reinstalling Windows XP, I did a full format to erase the old programs. While reinstalling the various programs, Sun Java, it posted a screen stating that a version of this program was present in Document and settings. I thought that the full format would clear this out.but evidently it didn't.

I do that and it takes me to DOS where I can roam around my harddrive and the windows CD. now how do I find this file to replace it? because on the windwos CD there is no "system" file in the directory I386/system32/config/. I've tried to copy it from my other computer, but since it's using the file I cant'!
