all of a sudden one of my programs keeps going to the left of my screen, this is the only oneit shows in the task menu icon but when i click it i cant see it, its off screen to the left.
When I left-click on a file and select "Open with..." I get the error: "File does not have program associated with it for performing this function. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." I can not select what program to open a file with because of this error.
I've suddenly started getting bits of menus left behind on my screen - for example the 'Open Outlook' choice from clicking the Outlook icon on the toolbar stays as white text on a blue background.AVG and antimalware scans show no infection and the onboard video driver is up to date.A hijack this log looks OK.A reboot or changing the video settings gets rid of it but otherwise it hangs around annoyingly.I've searched everywhere but found nothing helpful. The computer is a DELL Vostro 200 running XP with all the service packs installed.
I downloaded some "freeware", but what I wanted was nothing but!! I uninstalled, but the icons left on the screen did not go. Seems there should be a way, but I have not had any luck.
I had a few icons at the bottom left of screen (next to the start button)for my email and a couple of other programmes. For some reason they have disappeared, how do i get them back, I tried dragging and dropping but they just pop back to the desktop.
I don't even know what the proper name for this problem is. I'll try my best to paint an easy picture: basically, the entire screen (not physical part) of windows xp os is flipped. the system tray/task bar is on my left side. EVERYTHING including my wallpaper, windows login screen, folders, programs, IE browser - all of them requires me to tip my head to the left side if i want to do anything. This is truly an odd incident and I didn't even know how to begin a google search without knowing how to even identify such problem.
In windows xp themes how you go to my computer and you got that blue bar on the left of the screen then it shows c drive and so on.Well no clue what happened but its gone where can i download the theme again. It also shows when you go to control panel that blue border mine is all white.
I do not know what the bar is called but it is the bar that is usually at the bottom of the screen. It has the running programs in it and other things. Some how it moved from the bottom of the screen to the left side of my screen going up and down. I need to put it back to the bottom of the screen
This may be somewhat esoteric but... Under my start button there is a sliver of the taskbar - either blue, silver, or olive green depending on the theme chosen. It wasn't always like this. The start button used to go all the way to the bottom of the screen without any 'line' below it. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way to make the start button fill the bottom left corner of the screen again?
I believe I got a virus it was stuck on a warning screen. I tried to reinstall window XP now it goes to choose Window XP Professional or Home on Black screen white lettering. It will not let you choose XP is highlighted. Then it goes to black screen with cursor in left hand corner.
I am running Windows XP, Intel P4 (531), 1024 RAM, Gateway PC. Each time I restart my PC, all of the icons on my desktop reset and line up on the left side of the screen. I move them back to where I want them and organize. If I reboot again, the icons reset again. What can be causing this and how can I fix the problem?
I have two HDD. In the 1st one XP and Ubuntu and in the 2nd one FC5. Suddenly the XP is not booting. As I choose XP from boot loader [I use Acronis Boot Manager] it is giving me a blank screen with the cursor blinking at the top left corner. Just that no movement, no XP logo nothing.
I tried fixmbr, fixboot and chkdsk; but in vein. sfc scannow is not supported. Fixmbr and fixboot succeeded but it is giving me the same result. I reinstalled FC5's Grub in the hdb5 [location of FC5's installation] but it does not give me boot option. I then reinstalled FC5's grub in hda1 and atleast now I can access net and look for immediate help from you. I know reinstalation is the last option but I just don't want to do that unless I do not have any more avenues left.
My computer will not boot up. It gets to a certian point and sits there flashing an underscore in the top, left hand corner of the screen. It has done this before, like it stalled on start up and I would just restart it and it would finish booting but that isn't working. I'm using XP Professional...
I installed a software last night on my computer to allow me to transfer images and stuff to my cell phone (motorolla product). When I was installing it a box or something appeared saying it was suddenly missing files and it wanted me to put in the Service pack 2 disk - which I didn't have. My only guess is that is what caused this problem. I have not saved anything yet (was going to do that tomarrow on my only day off)
I've recently re-sized my task-bar to hold my usual desktop icons in the quick-launch area and moved the bar to the left of the screen with auto-hide enabled. All was well until recently when it began to remain on-screen for about 1 min when not in focus. Then it recently began to open on start-up at a size of only 1 icon wide instead of the previously set 3 icons wide. I've made no such changes to the configuration and am curious to know if anyone might know why/how it seems to have obtained a "mind of its own"???
i have a problem with windows media player, whenever i try to play a video, it says play at the bottom left hand side of the screen but nothing plays, audio, or video, what do i do?
I use full screen programs, usually games, my pc automatically minimizes the program to show the desktop. anyone experience this? i think it is from a program i installed coz everytime i reformat my pc.
When I go to the start button and click on all programs a screen comes up with all my programs. The problem with this is that I can't see all of my programs. Win XP Pro creates a screen that is not wide enough to display all my programs. My question is there a way to move the left edge of the screen to the left edge on my monitor so I can see all my programs. This screen doesn't go to the left edge of my monitor and you can't just click on the left edge and drag it to the left. It doesn't move. There should be a piece of code that tell XP where to display on screen. Can I get access to this code and move the left edge of this screen to the left as far as possible? I have approximately 115 programs and XP displays 3 columns plus a half of another column that I can only read a few letters in the forth column. Can the width of these columns also be made smaller so that I could view all of them? I'm sure there is a way to do this but I have never seen this problem addressed anywhere.
When I open the Add and Remove screen from the control panel 2 strange things are present.
1. There are dozens of listings that have no change or remove buttons, I don't know where they come from and would like to get rid of them.
2. There is a huge blank blank area, 30 programs displayed then huge gap before the next program you have to slide the bar almost to the bottom to see the next program.
I am running XP.The program menu bars and then those columns where you access your programs some of the programs are off my screen. I know there's a way to either consolidate or create another column, but I can't remember what to call this in order to look it up.
Id like to be able to capture my screen as well as my freinds webcam. Im making a small video of differant clips of my freinds and i doin supid/funny stuff on cam to put on one of my buddies webites. Any reccomendations on good webcam capture program??
On many occasions when I try to install various programs the Installshield wizard starts running and withing 1-2 seconds after the initial screen the program disappears with no errors or anything. I can never get the program or driver installed.
I want to copy the screen to Clipboard, from an old DOS drafting program. This program works OK, but will only load by filling the total screen, i e no taskbar etc available. Various combinations using PrtScn key have no effect (I can view the clipboard OK when the DOS program is minimised). Also hot-key commands from a Screen capture program do not work
when i try to install some program the only thing i see is some message in the middle on the screen.over the top 16 bit windows subsystem on blue.below i see this:c:windowssystem 32autoexec.nt,the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications.choose close to terminate the application.i cant opend the program.what is the mistake?thanks for the attention.i always admire the brilliant people.
Yesterday we downloaded:AVG FREE Pop up stopper (panicware)and Netscape 7.2 (don't care for 8.whatever) All was fine, shut it down, fired back up fine...But, this morning, windows opens, desktop comes up...then...thw screen switches to the program files? Tried scan idsk, defrag.
My husbands PC won't boot.the welcome (but without the welcome messege) and then the following error occurs"The Application failed to initialize properly (0x0000142) click OK to terminate program"We have no idea what this could be (the only recent changes made to the PC is a wireless connection, which was set up almost 2 weeks ago, so i am thinking that this isn't connected to the problem now?)....or how it has happened. My husband has tried to boot in safe mode and the welcome screen appears (again without welcome messege) and goes no further.
When I start my computer I get a blue screen that says, Is delete program not found - skipping Autocheck. Not sure if it is a I or 7 in front of the delete but either way after that the system starts normally. How do I get rid of that blue screen warning?
I am giving up trying to fix her computer. She hasn't installed any new programs or hardware... Here is the pic of her blue screen of death. She sent me the minidump file and the sysdata.xml, but I don't know how to interpret these things?
This has been going on for almost 3 months. I've never had this many issues with a box before. I'm getting BSOD left and right, I average about 7 a day:
My primary hard drive recently went nuts, so I decided to make my second drive the master. I completely disconnected the former master drive and set the former slave drive as the master. The newer harddrive is 250G and had been added thru XP. I only had some folders with music, video and such saved onto it. I wanted to keep those files so I didn't format the drive. And since they are large I didn't move them off the drive. Installation proceeded normally until it reached "32 minutes remaining" and showed that it was "setting up network." The system just stays there. (The "new features" messages on the right side of the screen continue to cycle thru their list, and the little progress squares at the lower right continue to flash in sequence.) I had read thru some forums that hardware may be the cause so I removed the following: phone modem card, NIC, graphics card and the sound card. This left me with just the motherboard, floppy drive and cd-rom drive. Rebooted and still freezes at the same spot
I have responded to a question in another conference which asks for help with a failing re-install whith 32 mins to go. and said I would ask in here This happened to me and was sorted by Microsoft help desk (using the last of my 2 free support calls attendant with purchasing a full copy of XP) - by a lady in India and lots of waiting Musak and a high phone bill! - but I can't for the life of me recall the keysrtokes the support lady took me through to "continue the process". I seem to remember it was something to do with objections to some drivers that had halted the install but what keystorke ovecame the problem alludes me
