In windows xp themes how you go to my computer and you got that blue bar on the left of the screen then it shows c drive and so on.Well no clue what happened but its gone where can i download the theme again.It also shows when you go to control panel that blue border mine is all white.

Was upgraded to Office 2003 but has plain gray borders; I had it at last firm and overall look was blue which I believe was the XP theme. Under Display Properties > Color scheme, Windows XP is not a choice. I'm thinking I'm missing the XP Theme (Themes as a service is running) but can't seem to find the download on www.microsoft.com
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know there is already a thread out there for this error. However, it is not solving my problem. My 160 Western Digital HDD is brand new. After the very first partition, OS install, and boot the system went to the "Windows is starting set up" blue screen. It hung up there. 10 minutes later I shut off the system and tried to boot from the HDD. This yielded the NTLDR error. Repartitioning with XP and reinstalling the OS ON A DIFFERENT COMPUTER worked. Hooking it up to my computer and booting from the HHD resulted in an "Operating system is missing error". Re-booting from the XP CD took me to the "Windows is starting set up" blue screen. a few seconds later the screen went blank. No windows start up screen, nothing I Can't get to the recovery console.

I restarted and when Windows loaded the taskbar and the desktop icons were missing. It's been like this all day. I've done System Restores and uninstalled recent things that I've installed.

It is about 2 and a half inches wide ( from left to right) and goes from the top of my screen to the bottom where the start menu is. I have tried everything I can think of and have been unable to get rid of it. Does anyone know how to remove this. I even tried in msconfig.

out.
In the start menu, the left half is completely devoid of any programs, except for the "All Programs" list. The right half works great. I've gone through the "Customize Start Menu" options and every thing is set up properly.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded an icon theme from www.everaldo.com The icons look great but I have no idea how to apply them. I downloaded it as a .tar.gz and then I extracted it to a folder containing folders with different sized icon, a file called ".dolphinview" and an "index.theme" file. I tried simply opening the index.theme file from "themes" in display properties but it cannot read it. When I open it in OOO and compare it to a theme it looks very different, a theme starts with [Theme] whereas this begins with [Icon Theme]. I think I am supposed to attach the index.theme file to my theme but I have no idea how.

Checked my hard drive several different ways and no problems. So I went to do a Windows XP repair instead of complete reinstall as they are a pain. After a long time it came back that couldn't do this because SPCMDCOM>SYS file was missing and couldn't repair from recovery console without it. My hard drive was replaced by Dell in July of 05 I think. What can I do without going to extremes? Secondly can I install my cd/dvd rom on my other Dell PC with discs I already have? I am very aggravated. I want to try to save at least 1 computer. On the 1st PC about 2 months ago I had my 17 inch flat panel go out it starts but then go black, I am using the 2nd computers screen!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've suddenly started getting bits of menus left behind on my screen - for example the 'Open Outlook' choice from clicking the Outlook icon on the toolbar stays as white text on a blue background.AVG and antimalware scans show no infection and the onboard video driver is up to date.A hijack this log looks OK.A reboot or changing the video settings gets rid of it but otherwise it hangs around annoyingly.I've searched everywhere but found nothing helpful.The computer is a DELL Vostro 200 running XP with all the service packs installed.

I'll try my best to paint an easy picture: basically, the entire screen (not physical part) of windows xp os is flipped. the system tray/task bar is on my left side. EVERYTHING including my wallpaper, windows login screen, folders, programs, IE browser - all of them requires me to tip my head to the left side if i want to do anything. This is truly an odd incident and I didn't even know how to begin a google search without knowing how to even identify such problem.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThis may be somewhat esoteric but... Under my start button there is a sliver of the taskbar - either blue, silver, or olive green depending on the theme chosen. It wasn't always like this. The start button used to go all the way to the bottom of the screen without any 'line' below it. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way to make the start button fill the bottom left corner of the screen again?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have two HDD. In the 1st one XP and Ubuntu and in the 2nd one FC5. Suddenly the XP is not booting. As I choose XP from boot loader [I use Acronis Boot Manager] it is giving me a blank screen with the cursor blinking at the top left corner. Just that no movement, no XP logo nothing.
I tried fixmbr, fixboot and chkdsk; but in vein. sfc scannow is not supported. Fixmbr and fixboot succeeded but it is giving me the same result. I reinstalled FC5's Grub in the hdb5 [location of FC5's installation] but it does not give me boot option. I then reinstalled FC5's grub in hda1 and atleast now I can access net and look for immediate help from you. I know reinstalation is the last option but I just don't want to do that unless I do not have any more avenues left.
My computer will not boot up. It gets to a certian point and sits there flashing an underscore in the top, left hand corner of the screen. It has done this before, like it stalled on start up and I would just restart it and it would finish booting but that isn't working. I'm using XP Professional...
I installed a software last night on my computer to allow me to transfer images and stuff to my cell phone (motorolla product). When I was installing it a box or something appeared saying it was suddenly missing files and it wanted me to put in the Service pack 2 disk - which I didn't have. My only guess is that is what caused this problem. I have not saved anything yet (was going to do that tomarrow on my only day off)
I've recently re-sized my task-bar to hold my usual desktop icons in the quick-launch area and moved the bar to the left of the screen with auto-hide enabled. All was well until recently when it began to remain on-screen for about 1 min when not in focus. Then it recently began to open on start-up at a size of only 1 icon wide instead of the previously set 3 icons wide. I've made no such changes to the configuration and am curious to know if anyone might know why/how it seems to have obtained a "mind of its own"???
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've found a way to get a theme out of XP-Windows Server 2003 without using the theme service. It's basically a variation of the silver theme. The steps are assuming you don't have the theme service turned on.
1.Open the Run command and type in services.msc
2.Find Themes, double click it and start the service

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop on boot-up consistently gives a blue screen with ERROR (0X000000ED (0X81ACA988, 0XC0000006,0X00000000,0X00000000). I have read most of your fixes BUT in my case no matter what I do it ALWAYS boots to this screen. Trying to boot to Safe Mode results in a list of drivers prefixed by ?multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)c:windowsdriver.sys etc The machine will not boot from Floppy or CD and I?ve tried every combination of boot sequence under the F12 menu. In the BIOS it will not allow me to change any relevant settings, only the ?system date?, ?system time? and ?quiet boot?.and I cannot select the dropdown menu items either. Booting under Normal Startup, I see the Windows Logo and all that, but then the blue screen appears. I?ve tried removing the hard disk to get it to boot to floppy, removing the battery (which is totally dead), memory module, etc. Only thing left I think is to sling it in the Caribbean Ocean and go drink a bottle of rum.

beginning dump of physical memory dumping physical memory to disk: and counts up to 100 then the computer restarts. i was able to get into safe mode to try a system restore but when the computer restarted it never finished the install (it actually gave me the confirmation that the restore was successful while i was doing a repair install later on) i have tried going through the windows install disc repair utility and doing a chkdsk /p and a chkdsk /r upon doing /r it froze at 53 percent and did not move (i left it for a good 4 hours the first time before restarting it.. and then over night the second time.. and both times it never passed 53 percent............
My laptop has started to freeze at times,then the screen would blackout then appear with a black screen with a blue box inthe middle giving BOOT DEVICE OPTIONS Hard Disk Drive, CD-ROM/DVD, Floppy Disk Drive, LAN Boot it froze blacked out and now keeps going to this option page ,where as before if you turn off then on it rectified itself.

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.
