View 3 RepliesI have a computer that I formatted the hard drive on. Then installed Windows XP Pro. When it boots up, it goes to a black screen and has Windows XP Pro and Windows XP listed with the Win XP Pro selected and boots to it in 15 seconds or so if nothing is selected. I have read somewhere about this before and have NO clue where I read it, but does anyone know how to get rid of the option (Win XP) that really doesn't even exist on the hard drive?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have ended up with 4 different options for XP Pro when my computer starts. This is, basically, as a result of me re-installing Widows a couple of times to try and solve a very slow running system (more help needed there but I will start a new thread for that). How do I remove the 3 unwanted start options?

After a reinstall i now get the option of "xp pro or xp pro" bit daft really anyone got a clue
also having two harddrives i choose this time to put windows on the smaller one 37gb
i cannot get windows to call it "c drive"
every time i boot up or restart my comp i get a screen saying this:
Please select the Operating System to start:
Microsoft Xp Home Edition
Restore Microsoft Home Edition
for troubleshooting and advanced startup options for windows, press F8.
Ive tried selecting both options and it boots up normally into Xp, but then when i boot up again or restart the comp the same screen appears every time
P4 2.8
512mb ram
100gb hard drive
Windows Xp Home sp2
Recently, I had to use the command "bootcfg /rebuild", which fixed a booting problem I was experiencing. However, now it asks what OS I'd like to boot from every time. The problem: It shows "Microsoft XP Home Edition" Twice. Is there any way to fix this and to just allow XP to boot automatically every time without prompt?

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust got a new 'old' machine at work. XP os. Folder Options, either from Control Panel or via explore/tools, is not available. Can some overly cautious IT dude turn in off or hide it? Can I get it back? (without having admin priviliges?)
View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time I turn my computer on, it goes to the blue welcome screen, but does not show any log in options. Usually my name comes up and I can click on it to log on, but only the blue screen with the windows logo appears. It's not frozen because the mouse still responds, but I can't click on anything and the keys don't appear to have any effect.

View 7 Replies View RelatedHow would I go about restoring windows when all five startup options go to bsod? I get different stop messages when I choose different options. I thought about an OS re-install but can't find my disk, all I can find is the disk for my fiancee's Laptop. Hers was XP pro and mine was Xp home so I didn't think it would work, and besides I can't find any product codes or serial numbers for either. Am I going to have to format and buy a new OS or what?

I have Windows XP x64 bit on one of the HDD, and I have bought a new HDD,I would like to install the same operating system on the new HDD,how do I do it? Just plug-in the new HDD and install a new OS on it?Or do I need to detach one and then install the os on the new one?
I can't find in the internet information about installing the same OS on different HDD only about different OS.
How do I get rid of extra boot options?
View 7 Replies View RelatedRight now when I boot my screen I have like 4 different options for what OS I want. There Windows XP (which I usually click), a Skeleton Boot (some boot screen program I was screwing with), another Windows XP (haven't used it, maybe a previous installation?), and some other windows option that my computer first came with.
Anyways, I know that I only use the first one so is there a way to eliminate the other 3 from the menu? Ideally I would like to not even see the menu when I boot the computer, I'd like it to just go through to windows. I thought I remembered seeing a control panel or some settings for that area somewhere but I can't remember where.
I am using windows XP for last 2-3 years. My folder option has disappeared from the menu "View" and does not show any result when I double click folder options in the control panel.I thought I have virus in my PC but i have cleaned it with the help of antivirus and your forum.

Didn't work. Here is the error message I get when trying to open Internet Options from within Internet Explorer 8 (I usually use Firefox BTW, the latest, and this update was two days ago.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI got a Dell Laptop 2 days ago.Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Version 2002 with Service Pack 2. Warez Demon, Intel Pentium III processor with 847 MHz and 256 MB of Ram.The name of the Administrator Account was "User" and I changed it to my name and set a password on it. I shut down and hours later I wanted to check something on it. When I booted up, I was logged into "User" automatically. I went into the Accounts and there was mine - along with "User". I restarted the laptop so I could choose which account I wanted to log on with, but it won't give me any option. It just boots me straight into "User". I can log off and into mine, though.I decided to just delete the account with my name, but there's no option to do this. I can see all the accounts in the Control Panel: User, mine and Guest. User and mine are both set as Administrative accounts. I logged out of my account and into User to delete my account from there. It won't let me. The User account has the option to delete User, so mine should have the option to delete mine. When in the User account, hovering the mouse over my account name says I can "Change this person's account information such as the account type, name, password, or picture, or delete this account." After clicking on my account, I only have the options to:
*Change the name
*Change the password
*Remove the password
*Change the picture
*Change the account type
No option to delete and none of these offer that. Interesting thing though, even though User is an Administrative account, when clicking on "Change the account type", I get a "You must assign another use on this computer with a computer administrator account before you can change this user's account type. This ensures that there is always at least one user with a computer administrator account on this computer." HUH?? There is TWO with that right, I'm IN one and I want to delete the other one.How do I go about deleting my account, then?
