View 6 RepliesComputer is not is a very slight increase in memory voltage. i have tried basic standard voltage setting as well as slightly higher settings. A game, or anything using 3d or direct x causes the problem. at first i got a hang and total system freeze. had no error or bsod.specifically the game was FSX sp2. also occured with command and conquer red alert 3, and sins of a solar empire. additionaly 3dmark06 did the same thing. specifically the games or program would load fine but once it started the first screen or opening graphic it just freezes the entire system. i have to reboot via reset button. and windows load just fine. only 3d programs or games does this. no bsod until last night i finally got the nv4_disp infinite loop error.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOk, I have solved "MY" nv4 loop error. It is not a software fix however. After I and most people have tried every fix out there, I decided to go to the root of the problem. The memory. I ran boot up with each DIMM alone. I use 3 1gb OCZ 6400's . 2 of these DIMM's ran any program that crashed before with no problem, only 1 did not. I ran the 2 DIMM's together and no more error. I have heard that there is an issue with the 680i motherboards giving incorrect voltage to memory or that it reads incorrect voltage . In either case on memory module is bad. While I consider this a final troubleshoot victory , it isnt cheap. But none the less im happy with the outcome.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe best solution to most issues with looping is POWER SUPPLY. Due to the huge amount of resources that video cards, sound cards, larger cpu's, they suck your power supply to the point that application cant perform. In turn it causes lockup, reboot and boot to desk top.A lot of resellers are only slapping in a 300watt power supply in newer systems. That doesn't work, you need at least a 400watt or greater. You need at least 450watt POWER SUPPLY. Take my word on it.This is the biggest issue i have studied on the net and in my lab for 1 1/2 years now. So many people have taken components back to the stores had them tested, to find out there is nothing wrong with them and go around shaking there heads in wonderment, without even considering power supply.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI decided to do a fresh install of Windows XP Home. So, I put in the WinXP Install CD and set the BIOS to boot to CD. I deleted the partition (only one on my 60GB hard disk), created a new one, and formatted it NTFS - all by following directions in the Windows XP Setup program on the CD. Then I chose to setup WinXP on that formatted partition. The CD copies a bunch of files over, then tells me to remove disks and restart the computer. So, I do. I boots to the hard drive and gives me the "Windows XP Home Edition" screen with the moving green bar at the bottom while it's loading. Then it quickly goes to a rather blank screen that says "Setup is being restarted," strange moving lines cover the screen, and the computer restarts. It then does the same thing over, and over, and over again. I've tried repartitioning and restarting the setup process several times, trying every available option but after Windows Setup restarts the first time, it gets into that infinite loop of never proceeding to the next step of setup.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI changed the BOOT.INI section of msconfig to boot windows in Safemode. Upon getting in Safemode, the computer finally recognized USB devices and the CD drive again (wasn't doing so in normal mode). So, I insert a Windows XP disc, used the Advanced install mode (the one that overwrites the previous installation of Windows), and everything seemed to be going great.
However, the machine restarts and tells me this "Windows XP Setup cannot run under Safemode. Setup will restart now." and has an OK button. I click it, thinking it's going to boot into normal mode. Well, it doesn't. It boots up again, says the same thing.I click OK.Restart.Again.OK.On and on into infinity.
I was attempting to boot into safe mode through the BOOT.INI /SAFEBOOT function in MSCONFIG. After restarting to boot into safe mode, my computer would restart ten seconds into the login screen. This happens every single time and I cannot get back into Windows to uncheck the /SAFEBOOT box. The computer that I am typing on right now allows the user to choose the boot method before entering Windows. It has an old ASUS board and is running Windows XP Pro w/ SP2.
My primary computer (the one that is restarting) has an ASUS A8N-E and is running Windows XP Home w/ SP2, latest updates. Is there anything I can press (one of the F keys, perhaps?) that will prompt me to choose the booting method? Safe mode has restarted on me before, but not like this. I tried setting the motherboard to defualts in my BIOS, but that was just a stab in the dark, as I don't see what that has to do with this problem. I am thinking about setting my motherboard to defualts by opening up the case, etc. but I don't think that will do anything.
I have an Asus W3H00V (which came with the Mobility Radeon X600) that I use for word processing, internet, and watching videos, though never really use it for gaming. After about a couple of months of use, my laptop suddenly always hangs with a blue screen popping up saying that there's an infinite loop problem that's caused by the file ati2dvag.dll, especially when watching videos. I've tried uninstalling and installing Windows XP (w/ sp2) four times and also uninstalling and installing the ATI drivers that came with my computer numerous times but nothing seems to work. I can't get any work done on my computer because an error window also always pop up and hangs my computer very frequently. I've tried searching for solutions in the internet but none seems to work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was incredibly bored and I downloaded an old DOS VGA version of The Oregon Trail from the-underdogs. I used VDMsound to run it, and everything seemed to work alright until i got sick of the game and tried to quit. It locked up, i used ctrl-alt-del a few times, got impatient and stupidly switched off the computer just as i was being dumped back to windows. When i turned the computer back on, i was given the "safe mode" prompt, so i chose to start in safe mode. It then showed that list of system files(?) it was loading until it gets to "d347bus.sys" and asks if i want to press escape to skip loading it. Regardless of whether i press esc or not, it moves on to "SPTD.sys" and asks the same question. After i press escape (or not), i get a black screen, then the computer restarts again back to the safe mode prompt. If i try to "start windows normally" i get to the Windows XP loading screen, the progress bar moves a bit then the whole thing restarts again. Safe mode with command prompt, safe mode with networking, last known good configuration, none of these work, they all result in this maddening infinite loop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy desktop is stuck on an infinite startup loop, I can see the standards Windows starting screen then there is a quick BSOD flash and the computer restarts and does the same thing - lucky I have a spare old laptop which will allow me to jump onto this site. Safe mode options do not work I tried the Windows recovery console - typing 'R' booting from the CD but then I get stuck at the console black screen not knowing what DOS commands I should be pushing. I tried goign the other way and choosing to install XP but then I get a message saying C: isn;t configured and will need to format to continue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer starts up normally. It always just autologs on since I'm the only one using my windows xp computer. However, before anything can be displayed it immediatley logs off to the logon screen. I click my username and start the login process (i have no password and before even switching to my wallpaper or anything it says stuff like logging out and saving your settings.
I tried booting in safe mode too and the same infinite logon loop occured to, even with the default administrator account. The last thing I remember doing before this happened is I was playing City of Heroes when it crashed forcing me to restart my computer. This happens occasionally in certain programs but I've never had anything like this happen before. I tried unplugging my keyboard, mouse, usb devices, ethernet cable, no luck. Intel Pentium 4 1.7 ghz Geforce 5600 FX 256 mb windows xp home service pack 1, in case any of that matters
I think I am losing what little sanity that I have left. I am having a couple of problems and they seem to be linked. Let's see if I can explain this so that it makes sense. I downloaded directx 9.oc last week don't know where it went because when I try to run "dxdiag" it says that I have vers 8.1 then everything crashes and all that I can do is push the reset button. Then when everything comes back I get an error message about the nv4_disp.dll
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is kind of a long one, so please bear with me. In the last week I've been getting a lot of pop ups (almost every time i clicked a link or visited a new site) which i never used to get before. Many of them were things saying my computer was at risk and i should download such and such software, but i didn't know if they were legit so i didn't do it.Then one morning a couple days ago i woke up with the computer running the windows loading page. It took me to the password screen, i entered my password and windows started. But then once all the programs had loaded, it flashed a blue screen error, too quick to read, and then went black. Then it started loading windows again and took me back the password screen. I logged on and the same thing kept happening over and over.I started it in Safe Mode and did a full scan with my virus protection software (Symantec). It found six threats and i deleted them all. Restarted the computer but the same thing happened. I tried the disk defragmenter in Safe Mode but that didn't work either.
Finally i changed the System Config Utility in Safe Mode to diagnostic which allowed me to open windows outside of Safe Mode, but not use any programs. So i went back to the system config and turned off all the programs that i could recognize as unnecessary (AIM, Kodak, winAmp, etc) and restarted. This time windows started fine and stayed up for awhile. Just to be on the safe side i disabled the automatic restart so that if it happened again i could write down the blue screen error. After about a half hour of working fine it went to the blue screen error again.
My computer was getting old, freezing a lot, and just being annoying so I thought I would just give it a clean sweep. I don't have a CD so I did it by using winnt32.exe. I reinstalled and everything was complete and then when my computer rebooted I get the same BSOD error over and over again. This error happens at the Windows XP loading screen.
View 8 Replies View RelatedOkay, here is my story. Around early august, I built a new gaming rig pretty much all by myself. All the parts cost nearly $800. But another guy did a few things for me, and set up the BIOS.Anyway,I installed a bunch of drivers on some cd's I had, and it looked like I was good to go. Anyway, from then to now, I have been through BSoD heck, among other problems.
The USB's killed 2 of my flash drives, and an ipod.I don't know how, but it defidenntly isn't a coincidence all of those things died.Anyway,I get BSoD's in the most random times,it happens a while I start my pc up. I can barely play games like Bioshock because of this problem.the error message that usually pops up on the BSoD is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
Im using an Advent 7049 Laptop and over the past few months my 7049 started to come up with the BSOD with various errors and sometimes it shuts down, i just ignored these and put it down to installing stuff id downloaded, so i got rid of the programs and once or twice it would still crash, i decided to do a full recovery yesterday and all ive installed is a firewall and antivirus and i was listening to some mp3s and it shut down!!! These were the last 2 errors i got -
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Stop 0x000000D1 (0x92453BE8, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xF80A00EA)
ALCXWDM.SYS - Address F80A00EA
Base At F803A000, Datestamp 3EA80730 ....
I updated my Win XP drivers, and after updating them I was prompted to restart my PC, when restarting i got the BSOD with 0x0000008E and 0x0000005 error messages.
View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently my computer crashed due to some driver faults. I tried updating some drivers from Genius Driver Professional 2007 and ran a few setups for the chipset, NVidia driver, and monitor. Well all was well until I rebooted. When I did so the resolution was at 800x600 and 8-bit color. Went around looking for a way to change back to the plug-and-play monitor, but it just faulted with a BSOD.Well I booted up to only read "Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM." It directed me to use the Repair CD and use the recovery option, but when I use that I get a BSOD* after I enter "1" for the recovery process so I can't use any commands. I tryed to repair it, but get the same result.I've googled this similar problem and couldn't find a solution. I saw possibilities of taking out my SATA HDD and putting it into a 2nd computer to fix the problem, but my second computer has Vista. Is it possible to fix it this way?
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy laptop SONY VGN-NS140E will not start the windows set-up/Fresh Install scenario. After the drivers get loaded and says starting windows it goes to the BSOD error Stop 0x0000007B, I figure this to be a MBR virus or corrupted boot sector. So I wiped the disc with Boot and Nuke 2.2.6, showed no errors. Tried again with same result. Ran Disc repair with same result. NOT the XP disc for sure as I have installed in different systems with no problems. HDD was running Vista SP2 when problems started. Ran bootable virus scan and stated MBR errors. Different software packages report that the drive is fine but still cannot partition/format drive.

View 12 Replies View RelatedSo I've been getting random crashes and restarts in win xp sp2. I turned off the auto restart and copied down the information. At the top it says:
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
Then the stop code:
0x0000001A (0x00000781, 0xC664408, 0x00000000, 0xE128C000)
I took out one dimm of ram to see if that did anything.
On boot up I got a bsod error and wrote down the first number which was Oxff83aed couldn't be found in memory location (i didn't write that down).
I can't find the error either in google or in microsoft.
I have windows XP.
How do you fix BSOD and Stop 0x0000007E error?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe computer I am working on is a Compaq Presario SR1020NX running Windows XP Home Edition. It connects to the internet via a Linksys WMP54G adapter. It tried to install Windows XP SP3 and it failed. While the update was trying to work correcting the changes it made it froze so my b/f powered it off. It rebooted just fine and he was on the internet for a little bit and then it stopped working. We recycled the modem and the router, I reset everything. Tried to uninstall and reinstall the adapter and nothing worked. I contacted Linksys and we tried to use WZC to connect to no avail. After troubleshooting a little more we determined that it had to do with the updates that were just installed on the pc. The tech suggested removing all the updates that were just installed and try again. I tried...but that is where everything went heywire. I uninstalled the first update and rebooted.....then got a blue screen flash up that said autochk program not found - skipping autocheck and then went to an endless boot cycle. I couldn't boot in safe mode, tried last known good config and nothing worked.

BSODs have varied but typically (but not always) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with STOP: 0x0000008E or STOP: 0x0000000A. Also, in Device Manager, Ports, Communications Port (COM2) I have a yellow exclamation mark, Code 10 error.I am not sure if these issues are linked.I know it could be a Ram issue but I have run memtest86 with no errors reported.Besides I am reluctant to replace the Ram or motherboard as I wouldn't really know what I was doing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having BSODs since I built my system nine months ago, and I'm at a complete loss as to what's wrong. Just recently I RMA'd my motherboard as a last-ditch attempt at a fix because I couldn't find anything wrong. Every blue screen is an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. My device drivers are all up to date. My BIOS is up to date. I've run about 20 memtests and all come back clean. I've run diagnostics on my hard drives and all come back clean.
I got my motherboard back from the manufacturer in the beginning of December. My first blue screen after that was yesterday, after I used Registry Booster to clean my registry. I restored the files since I'd hoped that I'd removed something accidentally. I just received a second one about a half hour ago. I reset, and the system hung when Windows was trying to load. I reset again, got the message that Windows didn't start normally and the system hung at the 27 second countdown to choose how to load Windows. I did a hard shut down, booted, and it appeared to boot normally. .........
