I am sure you will need a HJT log but can't remember how to get one. This computer has been starting up fine but if i walk away I comp back to :1962 no operating system found. Press f1 to repeat boot sequence and when I do that I get a weird graph and more errors. I don;t know where to start. If you advise how to get a log maybe that's where I should begin.

When installing new software you are often instructed to close all running windows programs before installation. Does this mean programs you might be using and are still open such as Quicken, Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Printshop etc; or does it mean programs that are running in the background such as an antivirus program, screensaver, taskmanager etc.

Using Windows XP Pro SP2. As I'm the only user on a standalone PC, I didn't use to bother with a password and Windows would log me in
automatically.
Then I found I had to have a password in order to get Task Scheduler to work, so I set one, then used UserPasswords2 to again set my account to log in automatically.
This works fine except that I cannot now find a way to access the built-in Administrator account.
Before I used UserPasswords2, I could get to the Admin account by starting in Safe Mode (the trick of pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del twice I've
seen here never worked for me, apparently because Windows thinks I am part of a workgroup rather than a domain). This worked whether I had a password set on my own account or not.
Now, however, I get automatically logged in even in Safe Mode, with no chance to choose the Admin account.
IS there any way of doing this so that I can keep auto login, keep Task Scheduler happy and still get to the Admin account if I need to?

I have been handed a PC to "sort out". It`s OS is XP Home.The problem being, that when it is switched on, it brings up the following screen We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. Start in safe mode.Safe mode with networking.Safe mode with command prompt.Last known good configuration setting (most recent setting that worked). Start Windows normally.But whichever option you select, the computer simply reboots and brings up the above screen again.

My computer was getting old, freezing a lot, and just being annoying so I thought I would just give it a clean sweep. I don't have a CD so I did it by using winnt32.exe. I reinstalled and everything was complete and then when my computer rebooted I get the same BSOD error over and over again. This error happens at the Windows XP loading screen.

Okay, here is my story. Around early august, I built a new gaming rig pretty much all by myself. All the parts cost nearly $800. But another guy did a few things for me, and set up the BIOS.Anyway,I installed a bunch of drivers on some cd's I had, and it looked like I was good to go. Anyway, from then to now, I have been through BSoD heck, among other problems.
The USB's killed 2 of my flash drives,and an ipod.I don't know how, but it defidenntly isn't a coincidence all of those things died.Anyway,I get BSoD's in the most random times,it happens a while I start my pc up. I can barely play games like Bioshock because of this problem.the error message that usually pops up on the BSoD is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

Recently my computer crashed due to some driver faults. I tried updating some drivers from Genius Driver Professional 2007 and ran a few setups for the chipset, NVidia driver, and monitor. Well all was well until I rebooted. When I did so the resolution was at 800x600 and 8-bit color. Went around looking for a way to change back to the plug-and-play monitor, but it just faulted with a BSOD.Well I booted up to only read "Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM." It directed me to use the Repair CD and use the recovery option, but when I use that I get a BSOD* after I enter "1" for the recovery process so I can't use any commands. I tryed to repair it, but get the same result.I've googled this similar problem and couldn't find a solution. I saw possibilities of taking out my SATA HDD and putting it into a 2nd computer to fix the problem, but my second computer has Vista. Is it possible to fix it this way?

My laptop SONY VGN-NS140E will not start the windows set-up/Fresh Install scenario. After the drivers get loaded and says starting windows it goes to the BSOD error Stop 0x0000007B, I figure this to be a MBR virus or corrupted boot sector. So I wiped the disc with Boot and Nuke 2.2.6, showed no errors. Tried again with same result. Ran Disc repair with same result. NOT the XP disc for sure as I have installed in different systems with no problems. HDD was running Vista SP2 when problems started. Ran bootable virus scan and stated MBR errors. Different software packages report that the drive is fine but still cannot partition/format drive.

So I've been getting random crashes and restarts in win xp sp2. I turned off the auto restart and copied down the information. At the top it says:
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
Then the stop code:
0x0000001A (0x00000781, 0xC664408, 0x00000000, 0xE128C000)
I took out one dimm of ram to see if that did anything.

The computer I am working on is a Compaq Presario SR1020NX running Windows XP Home Edition. It connects to the internet via a Linksys WMP54G adapter. It tried to install Windows XP SP3 and it failed. While the update was trying to work correcting the changes it made it froze so my b/f powered it off. It rebooted just fine and he was on the internet for a little bit and then it stopped working. We recycled the modem and the router, I reset everything. Tried to uninstall and reinstall the adapter and nothing worked. I contacted Linksys and we tried to use WZC to connect to no avail. After troubleshooting a little more we determined that it had to do with the updates that were just installed on the pc. The tech suggested removing all the updates that were just installed and try again. I tried...but that is where everything went heywire. I uninstalled the first update and rebooted.....then got a blue screen flash up that said autochk program not found - skipping autocheck and then went to an endless boot cycle. I couldn't boot in safe mode, tried last known good config and nothing worked.

I hope somebody can help me, please excuse my lack of pc skills!I am getting BSODs every day, usually 2 or 3 when booting up pc then pc runs fine for rest of the day. BSODs have varied but typically (but not always) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with STOP: 0x0000008E or STOP: 0x0000000A. Also, in Device Manager, Ports, Communications Port (COM2) I have a yellow exclamation mark, Code 10 error.I am not sure if these issues are linked.I know it could be a Ram issue but I have run memtest86 with no errors reported.Besides I am reluctant to replace the Ram or motherboard as I wouldn't really know what I was doing.

I'm getting the BSOD when I'm booting up my PC, and there are lines and such on the screen. It's the following error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA 0x000000050 (0xF8A33DBC, 0x00000000, 0x8052B8F8,0x0000000000)
I have a Dell laptop, Inspiron E1705. I'm using Windows XP, Service pack 3. When I run it in safe mode the following is across the top of the screen:
Windows XP (R) (build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.090804-1435: Service Pack 3)
It BSOD'd the other night after I was browsing the internet. My computer was acting really sluggish, and I restarted it. Then I got the BSOD. I left it for the morning when I re-started it, and it started fine, for a few minutes, but after a minute or so I got the same BSOD. This happened several months ago and I fixed it by opening up my PC and re-setting the video card. I did it again and this time it didn't help any...........

I checked event viewers and find many things:I found those events repeating many times:Errors: EventID=6 Source=SVART Incompatible version of SYMEVENT.SYS is loaded. Tried reinstalling windows->no luck (xp pro N)Get this message after installing windows: "The files that needed in order for windows to run stably has been replaced by unrecognized versions. Install your CD to fix". I installed the CD, but no, it still says those files are "unrecognized".

I've been having BSODs since I built my system nine months ago, and I'm at a complete loss as to what's wrong. Just recently I RMA'd my motherboard as a last-ditch attempt at a fix because I couldn't find anything wrong. Every blue screen is an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. My device drivers are all up to date. My BIOS is up to date. I've run about 20 memtests and all come back clean. I've run diagnostics on my hard drives and all come back clean.
I got my motherboard back from the manufacturer in the beginning of December. My first blue screen after that was yesterday, after I used Registry Booster to clean my registry. I restored the files since I'd hoped that I'd removed something accidentally. I just received a second one about a half hour ago. I reset, and the system hung when Windows was trying to load. I reset again, got the message that Windows didn't start normally and the system hung at the 27 second countdown to choose how to load Windows. I did a hard shut down, booted, and it appeared to boot normally. .........

I have a user who is getting a blue screen that references the following stop codes;
0x000000C2
0x00000000
0x80000000
I looked around but it seemed like a lot of people's issues were resolved by replacing the memory. So here is what I did;
The laptop is an HP 6710b;
- Completely replaced the memory - BSoD still happens
- CHKDSK /F - BSoD still happens
- Latest patches removed - BSoD still happens
- take hard drive out and put into a different, identical 6710b - problem resolved.
| BIOS version is the same on both laptops

An app was installed, and right after, a BSOD came up with the following error message: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

I was informed today that our home computer has been freezing over the last day or so. I logged on and looked up some info on the error i was described, then perhaps fortunately, i got the vile BSOD. This is what was contained:Then it began a memory dump.It claims a device driver error, but i do not recall installing anything recently. the windows report proved less than helpful (surprise).
