When I am on a web page , I no longer see the arrow icon at the top left of the page that is used to bring you back to the previous page, so now I have to exit out of the page and start all over again.
View 6 RepliesUnil this morning i could click on a little "up" arrow on the right side (not extreme right) of my taskbar to display a pop up list of my desktop icons. I could then click on the 1 i wanted. it was very convenient because i didn't have to close all my windows to see the icons. The arrow suddenly disappeared & everything became different & i don't know why.

Since the last two or three monthly Window updates, that yellow shield icon - the Windows Update icon - no longer shows up in the system tray. I tried to locate it under "previous elements" (I'm translating from German since my computer language is in German), but it's not there. I only know when Window updates have been downloaded when I want to shut down the computer and I have the option to either first install the updates, after which the computer will shut down automatically, or shut down the computer without installing the updates.

My curent problem is that When I rightclick a desktop icons I only get an hour glass, the system stops responding to any thing. The only way out of it it to either log off or shut down and restart.When I open the recycle bin though it appears full on the desktop icon I could not see any item on it.If I try do delete, move this folder or any of the command on the left file/folder task pane I only get hour glass. The only way out of it is ctrl+alt+del, task manager (program not responding) end task.

The only thing I can think of is some time in the past I must have set it up as a short cut. But I don't know how to find out if I did. I have done every thing that XP help has to offer and that didn't work. I use my arrow keys a lot nudgeing graphics. The arrows DO show for internet shortcuts > I use FireFox 3.6.3.I can find A Lot of info on the net about "removing" the arrow... I would like to put it back. I looked into editing the Registry by going backwards form the found info, but there are too many conflicting instructions concerning Location and Values. It's better I leave it alone until I find what's correct. 'Tweak UI 2.10' has the correct Radio Button is selected.The Prefix "Shortcut To" does NOT show [used Tweak UI long time ago to remove it].
I had recently installed BootVis like 20 min ago and suddenly after I restarted the computer, I couldn't move any icons on the desktop or any folders! I tried check in the auto arrange option and it was off. This is very strange as it has never happened to me before. When I drag the icon to somewhere on my desktop, it disappears from the arrow as if I hadn't touched it. View 5 Replies View Relatedi'm having to boot into windows xp. on power up sytem goes through the windows xp splash screen (with progress bar) and then instead of login prompt it goes just into the blue screen with moveable mouse pointer arrow.

what i've tried:
boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen
boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive
My Norton AntiVirus just upgraded from v2008 to v2009.Several weirdnesses ensued:

After looking at the display settings and closing them, my icon disappeared. A file search on all *.cpl files show that the display.cpl file still exists
and I can create a shortcut to the desktop and run the program.But, I'd like my icon back.I believe the problem was created by having all my icons underlined so I only have to do a single Left click to bring up the program.
I've winxp Home with SP2 system, yesterday my daughter had installed the program 'MS Plus' from the XP Installation CD which was not installed earlier in the machine. My OS is original, but to-day on opening the system I'm seeing that the icon of Hard Drive(E : Drive)to which the program was installed went missing and in its place another icon (which generally represents for any unidentified file) has taken its place.

It started acting weird a couple of days ago when it took sometimes two hits on the back arrow to go back. Now it doesn't go back to the previous page at all.

View 7 Replies View Relatedproblem setting the CD/DVD icon to return to it's normal icon in My Computer. It currently has the Audio CD icon. I've played an audio CD awhile ago and since then, the icon has remained. This icon is causing problems when I open a Data CD. When the Data CD is inserted the Audio icon emains. When I click on the icon, Media Player starts. I have disabled the auto-run or auto-play setting prior to this problem. I would have to right-click and select Open to get to the data files.
Under Windows Explorer, when I click on the icon, it shows the contents of
the data CD but the Audio icon is still present.
Just wondering why when you drag an IE http short cut to the desktop, it does not display the site logo icon. Sometimes, they will show and others not. I have had them even come and go after different sessions. I log on to Internet both through work firewall and at home on network through firewall and in motels through open and firewall protected isps.
All the windows on my screen are upside down, even the arrow is upside down.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy primary hard drive recently went nuts, so I decided to make my second drive the master. I completely disconnected the former master drive and set the former slave drive as the master. The newer harddrive is 250G and had been added thru XP. I only had some folders with music, video and such saved onto it. I wanted to keep those files so I didn't format the drive. And since they are large I didn't move them off the drive.
Installation proceeded normally until it reached "32 minutes remaining" and showed that it was "setting up network." The system just stays there. (The "new features" messages on the right side of the screen continue to cycle thru their list, and the little progress squares at the lower right continue to flash in sequence.) I had read thru some forums that hardware may be the cause so I removed the following: phone modem card, NIC, graphics card and the sound card. This left me with just the motherboard, floppy drive and cd-rom drive. Rebooted and still freezes at the same spot
I have responded to a question in another conference which asks for help with a failing re-install whith 32 mins to go. and said I would ask in here This happened to me and was sorted by Microsoft help desk (using the last of my 2 free support calls attendant with purchasing a full copy of XP) - by a lady in India and lots of waiting Musak and a high phone bill! - but I can't for the life of me recall the keysrtokes the support lady took me through to "continue the process".
