I had recently installed BootVis like 20 min ago and suddenly after I restarted the computer, I couldn't move any icons on the desktop or any folders! I tried check in the auto arrange option and it was off. This is very strange as it has never happened to me before. When I drag the icon to somewhere on my desktop, it disappears from the arrow as if I hadn't touched it. It's like my icons are locked into place and it's driving me insane trying to find a solution!I run Windows XP Professional SP2.
My Norton AntiVirus just upgraded from v2008 to v2009.Several weirdnesses ensued: 1. At the Windows Welcome screen, arrow keys could move the user selection up & down, but no alphanumeric keys made any visible entry (dot) in password field. Clicking Shut Down and restarting corrected this (for now, anyway). 2. The [Start] > [Log Off] > [Switch Users] button is missing. This would be a straightforward fix, except that 3. In Control Panel, User Accounts lacks "Change the way users log on or off"! [Is XP SP3's REAL purpose to hose up a nicely-running XP SP2 box, so the owner will FINALLY spring for a Vista system?] 4. Clicking any of the "Learn About." links opens the help page in IE7, but with its contents crowded to the left and the yellow bar at the top. Clicking to allow blocked content (Are you sure? YES!) results in yet another dialog about an ActiveX control that "might be unsafe" but the only new ActiveX control on this PC is one from Symantec, installed during the NAV 2009 upgrade. NAV 2009 was the FIRST product I've run into that did NOT permit its EULA to be selected, printed or saved. I like to keep a record of things I've agreed to, but that text was out of reach! Sixteen screenshots later.
I use WinXP Pro SP3.I am Missing the "Shorcut Arrow" on my icons, on the DeskTop, in Windows Explorer, etc. The arrows DO show for internet shortcuts > I use FireFox 3.6.3.I can find A Lot of info on the net about "removing" the arrow... I would like to put it back. I looked into editing the Registry by going backwards form the found info, but there are too many conflicting instructions concerning Location and Values. It's better I leave it alone until I find what's correct. 'Tweak UI 2.10' has the correct Radio Button is selected. The Prefix "Shortcut To" does NOT show [used Tweak UI long time ago to remove it].
Ever want to remove the shortcut arrow over your icons? Read below to find out how:1. Open regedit, if you are unfamilar with regedit visit our FAQ2. Navigate to Rename IsShortcut to AriochIsShortcut4.
On an initial boot up, I loose the show hidden icon arrow and all the icons in the system tray, the only way to get them back is to log off then log back on again,
Loaded some Kodak software and the icon is showing in my task bar. Would like to remove it (I can manually close everytime I start up but its a pain). Also Everytime I add my Creative Soundblaster icon to the taskbar (to control my speaker volume) it disappears on re-booting (the regular microsoft speaker control also does not stay
On my HP laptop, I can not move any of the desktop icons. They snap back to original position when released. "Auto Arrange" is not checked. I have tried with "Align to Grid" both on and off. "Lock Web Items on Desktop" is not checked.
What does it mean when your all of your icons are locked up, i mean i cant move or drag any of my icons, files or folders throughout my whole hard drive.
All of a sudden when i go to move a desk top i con it pops back to where it was. i know there is a wawy to change this but i just can't think of it.i have been to right click desk top and all and lock desk top is not checked.
I wonder if there is a way to move the minimized windows icons between them (in windows Xp professional) for example if I open explorer and minimize and then one word file and minimize and then excel file and I minimize and now I would wanna put the minimized icon of excel on the first place?
Icons move really slow, like for example when I want to move "game" shortcut from desktop to my documents it takes forever to move. Please is this a operating system problem or do I need more Ram memory.
I was running CyberScrub the other day, which is a program that cleans out internet cache and deletes files beyond recovery. After it was done with the procedure, the computer restarted and chdisk began to run before my Windows XP booted up. After Windows was done doing chdisk, it started doing some wierd stuff I've never seen before. It was scrolling down with the same line but with the number increasing into the thousands. I thought maybe it was just doing a routine check but when I when my desktop came up I started to notice all kinds of wierd errors now. Here are just some examples: My taskbar disappeared and there's no way to conventionally fix it (Start doesn't come up when I press the windows key on my keyboard). My soundcard is undetectable. I can't copy and paste from and to my browsers. Can't find my RPC server. I can't move my desktop icons, etc.
My right arrow key is not working. I tried a different keyboard and it wasn't working with that either. The only thing I can think of is some time in the past I must have set it up as a short cut. But I don't know how to find out if I did. I have done every thing that XP help has to offer and that didn't work. I use my arrow keys a lot nudgeing graphics. It is frustrating not to have the right arrow key.My computer is a Sony Pentium 4 CPU 3.20GHz 3.19 GHZ, 1.00 GB of RAM.Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.
Normally, when I use the drop down arrow on the address bar, it still has recently visited sites saved that I can easily navigate to. In the last day or so though, when I click nothing happens and everything has to be re-typed. Does anyone think they know what the problem is?
For some reason, the down arrow in the vertical scroll bar area on the right side of my Firefox browser window is now missing. I use Windows XP Home Edition. Can someone please tell me how to restore it?
When I am on a web page , I no longer see the arrow icon at the top left of the page that is used to bring you back to the previous page, so now I have to exit out of the page and start all over again.
Unil this morning i could click on a little "up" arrow on the right side (not extreme right) of my taskbar to display a pop up list of my desktop icons. I could then click on the 1 i wanted. it was very convenient because i didn't have to close all my windows to see the icons. The arrow suddenly disappeared & everything became different & i don't know why.
Started only yesterday, IE just disappears off my desktop, whether minimised or maximised. I have rebooted, it still does this ocassionally? Any ideas what could be causing this. I am well scanned for virus, ant-spy, malware, and keep my registery clean with PC DOC,Cleaner and Cleanup.
Why when i type regedit i see regedit window for some seconds and then it disappears i have to modify some values in regedit and so i am unable to do it.
I've searched everywhere for an answer to this but no luck yet. My Start>Run works just fine in my WinXP Home Ed but I have several small CLI apps (.exe) that flash their own black screen and disappear leaving nothing! No sign of the process either. One of them (MBRWizard) seems to be a very popular app, I've downloaded several versions, always the same: the screen disappears as soon as I press the "any key" that it wants before it shows me more options.I find it hard to believe it's a problem with the app - people seem to be using it all over. If it's something I need to configure I'd sure like to know what it is.
I have a HP Pavilion A1624N computer, running Windows Media Center 2005. AMD 64 x 2 Processor 2.0 GHz, 1 Gig of RAM. All of a sudden yesterday morning when I right clicked on my desktop and un-checked Show Desktop Icons (to take a print screen for my friend) the problem started. This worked fine, I did the print screen and saved it in paint no problem. But when I right clicked again and then chose Show Desktop Icons, they came back, but my wallpaper disappeared. I tried several ways to get it back
