All of a sudden when i go to move a desk top i con it pops back to where it was. i know there is a wawy to change this but i just can't think of it.i have been to right click desk top and all and lock desk top is not checked.
I have a PC running win xp and it recently crashed and as a result I had to re-install windows and since then everything appear to be ok apart from the fact that the icons on the desktop are over laying one another. If I right click the desk top and select 'arrange icons by' it makes no difference whatever combination of setting I chose for the desk top settings.
Sometimes when I open control panel all the desk top icons loose there identity and go generic. After about 30 seconds they will go back normal. They don't do it every time and some time not all will do it.
I have suddenly have blue highlights on my desk icons. windows xp home edition, dsl. have quaranted 2 trojans ... I also had an error message...syntax error, http://www.seek-media.com.
On my HP laptop, I can not move any of the desktop icons. They snap back to original position when released. "Auto Arrange" is not checked. I have tried with "Align to Grid" both on and off. "Lock Web Items on Desktop" is not checked.
What does it mean when your all of your icons are locked up, i mean i cant move or drag any of my icons, files or folders throughout my whole hard drive.
I wonder if there is a way to move the minimized windows icons between them (in windows Xp professional) for example if I open explorer and minimize and then one word file and minimize and then excel file and I minimize and now I would wanna put the minimized icon of excel on the first place?
I had recently installed BootVis like 20 min ago and suddenly after I restarted the computer, I couldn't move any icons on the desktop or any folders! I tried check in the auto arrange option and it was off. This is very strange as it has never happened to me before. When I drag the icon to somewhere on my desktop, it disappears from the arrow as if I hadn't touched it. It's like my icons are locked into place and it's driving me insane trying to find a solution!I run Windows XP Professional SP2.
Icons move really slow, like for example when I want to move "game" shortcut from desktop to my documents it takes forever to move. Please is this a operating system problem or do I need more Ram memory.
I was running CyberScrub the other day, which is a program that cleans out internet cache and deletes files beyond recovery. After it was done with the procedure, the computer restarted and chdisk began to run before my Windows XP booted up. After Windows was done doing chdisk, it started doing some wierd stuff I've never seen before. It was scrolling down with the same line but with the number increasing into the thousands. I thought maybe it was just doing a routine check but when I when my desktop came up I started to notice all kinds of wierd errors now. Here are just some examples: My taskbar disappeared and there's no way to conventionally fix it (Start doesn't come up when I press the windows key on my keyboard). My soundcard is undetectable. I can't copy and paste from and to my browsers. Can't find my RPC server. I can't move my desktop icons, etc.
I have a new computer my son put togeather and every time it is turned on the windows background comes on,the icons apear for only a few seconds then disappear leaving only the windows background and no start menu. The computer will still work through the task manager feature (ctrl+alt+delete) and also starts fine in safe mode and appears to work fine. Could it be my video cards driver That might not be xp approved. It is a XFX nForce 680i motherboard & a EVGA 8800 gs video card. This problem has existed from the birth of this computer.
I've cleaned up my computer with ad ware, spy-bot, etc. now when i turn on my computer my desk top does not come up. my documents come up. how can i go back to desk top
The icons on my desk top have recently been highlighted on the name portion of the icon before my desk top failed to load - I don't know if that means anything or not but thought I'd mention it. When I start my computer it begins the normal start up process and appears to be okay until it gets to the splash screen: Microsoft Windows xp Home Edition, that's as far as I can get, nothing on my desk top loads. I went into safe mode and ran a complete scan (Norton) for any viruses and there wasn't any detected. I did a registry repair too to no avail. Prior to this I tried a system restore to get rid of the highlighted icons on my desk top and for some reason and each time I tried it it said no changes had been made; I tried it again in safe mode and the same thing.
Desk top cleaner appears to run by its self only after computer is left on for 4 plus hours inactive i have turned off desk top cleaner and verified it is off but still seems to do it randomly,if that is what is causing the following - all non ms icons are removed from desk top all email adresses are gone all ie explorer pages and favorites history ect. gone allpersonal documents are gone - I can find the links to my papers and pictures in my computer properties [then searching all the files] all but pictures when clicked say link is bad and do i want to delete Its like my computer is doing a fresh install of the whole system with out a reboot or such also desk top clean up folder is gone have tried many ways to find it tried system restore there is not a earler restore point but if two weeks laterthen there are some but none earlier thanthis last reinstall.
when I double click OR right click open on my desktop icons, they don't do anything, then my desktop is frozen and I have to shutdown computer and reboot. Desktop is UN frozen again, until I try to open another shortcut icon. Not All of them do this, but a lot of them. These are desktop icons/shortcuts I put on the desktop.
When I turn the computer on It goes through the motions and I can see the background but not the desktop. It will sit for a while with the background showing then It will go to the log on screen and when I click owner, It will try to log on and then jump back to logging off.
Plugged external monitor into sony laptop with XP. Desktop background shows up on new monitor. Desktop icons do not. Monitor is enabled. Have checked the "show desktop" box.
I have a win xp sp2. after installing ie7, i got a blank desk top with iertutil.dll missing. now i can only access through task manager. get messages ordinal 173 not found in---, ordinal 313 not found --, explorer not found. even if i try to remove ie, it does not get removed.
I have an Alienware Pentium 4 PC which is refusing to run a number of programmes. When I double click I get the hour glass but then the pointer returns back to an arrow and its as if the programme never started. I've check the apps I have open and its not listed. I've tried reinstalling the application and it makes no difference. I also have a problem where my desk top freezes so I can't click on anything but my mouse still drives the pointer. I ran a hard disk check using a utility from Seagate and it found errors with the metafiles and file structure in section one of my drive.
A Dell Inspiron 4000, Win 2000, and I recently moved my printer. When I go to print, the resume light continues blinking and computer says it's not connected to LPT1, but everything is hooked up the same. Does the printer need to be realigned? Or is there a virus or malware causing this?
The only way I can get started is Control/Alt/Delete, which raises Task Manager, then enter URL for Internet Explorer (.exe) to get into the internet, then either hit the Read Mail button to get Outlook Express, or enter the Outlook Express URL into Task Manager. Can't access C-drive at all. Haven't tried A or D drives yet
