Normally, when I use the drop down arrow on the address bar, it still has recently visited sites saved that I can easily navigate to. In the last day or so though, when I click nothing happens and everything has to be re-typed. Does anyone think they know what the problem is?
I had gone to a couple of gaming sites researching on some games and out of nowhere, it had popped up adult sites all over the place. I did all my spyware software and cleared out all the adult crap, but all of a sudden, they are showing up on my address dropdown list! Even after running the software, I thought that would clear them off the list.Is there anyway besides clearing out all of the history that I can get rid of the one or 2 individual adult web addresses?
A minor problem. When my "Favorites" list becomes crowded I highlight items and delete them. Simple. Now the dropdown list from my Address Bar has become crowded and I realize I don't know how to delete old items. Can't highlight and delete like the Favorites.
How do I get my visited websites to remain. Twice in the last week, I've lost the recent websites I've visited. I have IE6 and when I click on the drop down for the address bar, the box is empty. People usually want to delete this, but I want to be able to keep it.No viruses or spyware.
can any one please tell me how do you get rid of all the www address you collect in your drop down address browser at the top of the page in internet explorer someone once told me how to get rid of them in windows 98 but i have forgot what they said think it was something like go to run type in re something then follow the on screen info but cant remember it.
I've lost the facility to use the drop-down list of previously used addresses. It sticks in my mind thaat, years ago I did this and just went to internet options/advanced, and fixed it from there. I can'at do it now.
I am running xp pro. I can not get an internet connection through my ethernet card. When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange.
I opened my computer and decided to goto internet through the my computer window. So I pressed home button of my key board so the My Computer window converted to a web page. But after that the address bar disappeared. I closed the window and restart the machine and opened the internet explorer, but still address bar is missing. I checked under the tools and I can see the tick infront of the address bar.
We have run across a problem here with APIPA addressing. After we install Windows updates, Windows assigns an APIPA address in the 169.254.x.x range, instead of getting an address from the DHCP server. The effect is that the computer loses connectivity with the network and the Internet. You can confirm this problem by running an IPCONFIG and checking for an address in the 169.254 range.
Releasing and renewing the address does not correct the problem. Assigning a static IP address resolved the issue. Searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, we found a registry hack that will disable APIPA addressing on the computer, and this does correct the problem so the computer can connect to the network again. We assume that the problem is a result of an update from last Tuesday, but we have not determined which update is the problem. We are still looking. Our concern is that as DHCP leases expire with computers in the field, that this effect may appear. If you get calls for loss of network or Internet connectivity, have the user run IPCONFIG, and if they have an APIPA address, the registry hack is outlined in KB article
I am using Windows XP Home edition. How do you delete an address from the list of automatic webb address list in the Address box? I tried highlighting it and entering delete but it doesn't get deleted.
after every use of internet i delete history, cookies and files by using internet option(tool menu)but some address stays and they never get delete please can somebody tell how to delete those from address bar.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, so I hope you will excuse me as it is my first time here. This question is from my brother who cannot get a web address to enter into his address section on IE. What might you suggest he do so I can pass your information on?
My right arrow key is not working. I tried a different keyboard and it wasn't working with that either. The only thing I can think of is some time in the past I must have set it up as a short cut. But I don't know how to find out if I did. I have done every thing that XP help has to offer and that didn't work. I use my arrow keys a lot nudgeing graphics. It is frustrating not to have the right arrow key.My computer is a Sony Pentium 4 CPU 3.20GHz 3.19 GHZ, 1.00 GB of RAM.Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.
For some reason, the down arrow in the vertical scroll bar area on the right side of my Firefox browser window is now missing. I use Windows XP Home Edition. Can someone please tell me how to restore it?
I use WinXP Pro SP3.I am Missing the "Shorcut Arrow" on my icons, on the DeskTop, in Windows Explorer, etc. The arrows DO show for internet shortcuts > I use FireFox 3.6.3.I can find A Lot of info on the net about "removing" the arrow... I would like to put it back. I looked into editing the Registry by going backwards form the found info, but there are too many conflicting instructions concerning Location and Values. It's better I leave it alone until I find what's correct. 'Tweak UI 2.10' has the correct Radio Button is selected. The Prefix "Shortcut To" does NOT show [used Tweak UI long time ago to remove it].
When I am on a web page , I no longer see the arrow icon at the top left of the page that is used to bring you back to the previous page, so now I have to exit out of the page and start all over again.
I had recently installed BootVis like 20 min ago and suddenly after I restarted the computer, I couldn't move any icons on the desktop or any folders! I tried check in the auto arrange option and it was off. This is very strange as it has never happened to me before. When I drag the icon to somewhere on my desktop, it disappears from the arrow as if I hadn't touched it. It's like my icons are locked into place and it's driving me insane trying to find a solution!I run Windows XP Professional SP2.
Ever want to remove the shortcut arrow over your icons? Read below to find out how:1. Open regedit, if you are unfamilar with regedit visit our FAQ2. Navigate to Rename IsShortcut to AriochIsShortcut4.
Unil this morning i could click on a little "up" arrow on the right side (not extreme right) of my taskbar to display a pop up list of my desktop icons. I could then click on the 1 i wanted. it was very convenient because i didn't have to close all my windows to see the icons. The arrow suddenly disappeared & everything became different & i don't know why.
Before I did a complete restore of windows home edition, I copied my windows address book to a floppy disk. Now when I go to copy the floppy back to windows address book an error occurs and it won't copy. could it have something to do with a mark that looks like this~.
when i start my pc i get this message which takes a couple of clicks to remove "access violation at address 46243 cof.read of address 46243 cof" but it does not seem to affect my pc,just annoying..
On an initial boot up, I loose the show hidden icon arrow and all the icons in the system tray, the only way to get them back is to log off then log back on again,
i'm having to boot into windows xp. on power up sytem goes through the windows xp splash screen (with progress bar) and then instead of login prompt it goes just into the blue screen with moveable mouse pointer arrow.
issue seems to be similar to: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...o-startup.html http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...p-problem.html but recommended solutions didn't help so far.
symptoms just before issue - was not able to run use some system features - utility to turn off the display, utility to bring up battery info - everything was working fine before this
what i've tried: boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen
boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive
My Norton AntiVirus just upgraded from v2008 to v2009.Several weirdnesses ensued: 1. At the Windows Welcome screen, arrow keys could move the user selection up & down, but no alphanumeric keys made any visible entry (dot) in password field. Clicking Shut Down and restarting corrected this (for now, anyway). 2. The [Start] > [Log Off] > [Switch Users] button is missing. This would be a straightforward fix, except that 3. In Control Panel, User Accounts lacks "Change the way users log on or off"! [Is XP SP3's REAL purpose to hose up a nicely-running XP SP2 box, so the owner will FINALLY spring for a Vista system?] 4. Clicking any of the "Learn About." links opens the help page in IE7, but with its contents crowded to the left and the yellow bar at the top. Clicking to allow blocked content (Are you sure? YES!) results in yet another dialog about an ActiveX control that "might be unsafe" but the only new ActiveX control on this PC is one from Symantec, installed during the NAV 2009 upgrade. NAV 2009 was the FIRST product I've run into that did NOT permit its EULA to be selected, printed or saved. I like to keep a record of things I've agreed to, but that text was out of reach! Sixteen screenshots later.
Are you guys having the same problem? Using IE7, when viewing a thread, if I hit the back arrow to go back to the page I was previously viewing, it doesn't move at all. It started acting weird a couple of days ago when it took sometimes two hits on the back arrow to go back. Now it doesn't go back to the previous page at all.
Recently, my XP windows drop down bar has taken on a ghostly apperance (non-apperance). When I right click on a menu item, I see a ghoast of the right side and bottom line of the dropdown list, but no choice text. Only after I mouse over each of the dropdown choices does any text appear. I find this somewhat concerning, because I don't know what caused the change.Where can I redefine the appearance of the dropdown. I tried looking in Display but don't know the location to adjust.
I am running window XP Pro and suddenly I am having some major issues. Not sure if it's a virus, spyware or something else. I've run AVG free virus scan and AVG free spyware and got nothing out of it.I've also formatted my hard drive and re-installed windows and STILL have the problems. Here's what's happening if ANYONE can get this fixed for me, you're a real pro.First off, I can't drag and drop anything.I can right click and copy (or cut) then paste elsewhere, but I can't move desktop icons around, or drag them to the recycle bin, or any sort of drag and drop.
Also, very frequently, all the sudden, I won't be able to click anything. No shortcuts, no quick launch icons, NOTHING! My computer acts kinda like it's hung, but the mouse works fine, just when I mouse over a button or icon, I get nothing, same thing when I click the button or icon nothing. however, I have oddly noticed that if I press CRTL+ALT+DEL, then simply close down the task manager right away, without doing anything, my PC will let me click icons and buttons again, but still no drag and drop after a few minutes it'll mess up on me again, then CTRL+ALT+DEL and close task manager again to get back in business.
