my Computer is slow to start up.[5 minutes] I am running XP professional with sp2 and all of the sudden when I first start it up it has the welcome screen.after going pass that the computer running perfectly
Out of the blue, my computer started getting slow. Sometimes its ok, and then it will be on the verge of freezing.. then get itself back together. I realized, when I start up, it takes FOREVER. It also shows this screen I have never seen before. Its completely black, and has a line of grey rectangles from side to side. and slowly loads across. When it is finally finished 10-15 minutes it will slowly start up in regular fashion
as the title says my computer takes forever to start. It is a new installation of Windows XP Home as supplied by my Laptop Manufacturer Fujitsu Siemens. I have all the recent updates but this hasn't helped. From day one of the installation it has taken around 2 minutes to start. I have checked for Spyware with Adaware and Spybot and Destroy. I have ran Trend Housecall Anti-Virus online scanner and Panda Online Anti-Virus and nothing. My resident Anti-Virus software is Nod32 and it has detected nothing.I have followed so many guides to try and speed things up but it hasnt done anything. The only things starting up are the virus scanner, freepops(for my Hotmail account) and my synaptics keypad. I have tried disabling them all and its just as slow. I have turned off services that certain websites assure me I do not need and nothing. I have one Unsigned Driver for my WLAN Card but the Supplier doesnt have a signed driver available. It's a Sitecom WL-517 Wireless Broadband Kit PCMCIA adapter. I have uninstalled the device to see if this might be the problem but it still doesnt effect startup time.
I downloaded Bootvis to look at where the time is going and what it shows. It seems to spend an age loading drivers and looking at the Prefetch files this accounts for about 40 seconds. Then it spends another 45 seconds at Windows Logon and Services. From here I have a gap of about 45 seconds where it does nothing it just pauses for another 45 seconds. I have ran Bootvis so that it optimised the system but this did nothing. Having read further I discovered that Windows XP more or less does a BootVis optimisation at every startup and so this would have done nothing anyway. Because of this I ran the Windows XP Home Cd and repaired the Installation so it should be relatively fresh.I must say I am at a loss as to where the problem is.
my computer is suddenly running extreemly slow at start up and every pplication/operation takes far more time than is resonable. i have not recently downloaded anything new and i have about half free memory. The only error message i get is the 'windows virtual memory too low'
for awhile now I have been experiencing slow computer start up. My computer will boot to the desktop, then stay there for a few mins. I try clicking icons, not clicking icons, but I still have to wait. *Also* The comp. doesn't sound as if it is loading...sometimes the hourglass cursor will appear, but the CPU never gets loud during this waiting time. I would like to not have to wait every time I get on my computer. Can anyone help? Please! I will be standing by for an answer.I have scanned for viruses, adware, and spyware.after making sure those were gone I still had this slow start up problem.
computer (WinXP SP2 - 1GB RAM) just started in the last day or two to load really slow -- it takes a good half hour or more to get to the point where you can click on an icon and it takes a few minutes to open. Don't even ask about the internet. it did not download anything in the last few days and has no idea why this is happening.
My problems are a very long boot up (go away and make a coffee length) and also slow running, especially in opening progs for the first time ie, very slow to open Word initially, then much faster opening subsequent Word files. Even so, the laptop has slowed considerably and is often hesitant.
Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank
My Toshiba Tecra laptop 8100 with XP is Slow/Slow/Slow!
When turning on, it takes 5 to 10 minutes to settle down. Once it stops grinding and I try to start any application -- such as Internet Exployer, it takes another 5 to 10 minutes. I have Nortons 360 and another anti-virus application that gives me the indication that all is O.K. How can I speed this machine up
I've gone through a lot of the threads in here and tried a lot of fixes, and I'm still having problems. I have a Gateway, Windows XP laptop that's about 1 year old. A little over a week ago, it started "running slow". It's slow to start up (takes about 5-10 min), the mouse "sticks" sometimes although that is an intermittent problem, when I have multiple applications minimized (outlook express, firefox, My Documents, AIM), it's slow to toggle between them, and it's slow to open folders in My Documents.
This is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes. All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)
computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot, it takes that half an hour to an hour again
My pc was working just fine a few days ago then last night i go on it was just dragging.Everything was loading slow despite the fact i have even firefox was loading slow which it never does.Anyway i asked my sister who was the last one on if she clicked on anything but no surprise the reply was I didn't do anything so i guess it was a ghost .I ran NAV but nothing found then again NAV doesn't seem to find anything
I am running PC, Windows XP and recently had several viruses deleted from system. Problem started when running Internet Explorer and would receive an error tab every time stating IE must close. The data error was a mcsvrt.dll problem. Now when I start the computer it takes 10-15 minutes to boot completely and accessing Mozilla or any apps after about 3-4 mins takes ages. It runs so slow, something has it almost completely bogged down. I run spybot but after a while it freezes up
I have an HP. Personally, I think it's a great computer but it's extremely slow and it crashes randomly. Also, I keep losing internet connection. My ISP is cox and I also have vonage so they're connected to each other
I am working with a Dell 2400 running Windows XP Service Pack 3 with a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor and 1.2 gig of ram. It still seems particularly slow. I am not sure if it some of the applications that I am running like Norton 360 or some of my settings.
Win XP HE SP2. Dell 8300 3.0 Ghz .PC takes minutes from startup to desktop. All programs much slower than usual.I regularly use Defrag, Have Microsoft anti spyware, Panda anti virus, Ad Aware Spybot, System Mechanic Pro.etc.Have tried everything!
Why is it taking my computer 3 minutes to boot to the desktop? As you can see from my signature below, I don't have exactly a slow poke machine. All drives are defragged weekly, the BIOS is set to boot off of the hard disk, and I only have the one OS installed. This thing use to boot to the desktop in 20 seconds.
on the wifes pc xp only a cheap one fron local retail out let but it does her.but drives me mad as my pc is so fast in starting up and hers takes about 2 years if you know what i mean,my pc and my laptop are fast at starting but hers is slow......as i said your able to make a cup of tea before its up and running...i have dissabled some start up programs that i thought may of afected it but to no aval still the same?
I believe its a problem with the actual start up button instead of the computer itself, ive pried the thing open, seeing the generator is on, everythings in place and there are lights on, showing there is power. any ideas?
Hi .friends laptop from switching on till it gets on homepage is taking over 3-8 minutes ,once its on the homepage and internet no problems. ive done the usuall things cleared temp files cookies n browsing history etc also did msconfig and cleared the clutter from start-up he is running xp and uses internet explorer 7 .have noticed that at top of screen it says internet explorer provided by sky broadband ,
My desktop has been slowing down over time. Start up you could almost make a cup of tea between on button and being usable. Performance picks up, but not what it used to be.Could someone advise me if a problem lies in this area and what to add/remove. Also there are 3 other user accounts, do I have to run seperate logs for these, or will changes I make carry over (ps. I am administrator).
