Slow Computer And Super Slow Start Up
Mar 3, 2005Out of the blue, my computer started getting slow. Sometimes its ok, and then it will be on the verge of freezing.. then get itself back together. I realized, when I start up, it takes FOREVER. It also shows this screen I have never seen before. Its completely black, and has a line of grey rectangles from side to side. and slowly loads across. When it is finally finished 10-15 minutes it will slowly start up in regular fashion

Need some new eyes on this one...Only changes to computer recently were the addition of the new BattleField 2 demo, which really seemed to slow the system down.

Speed Was Great For Awhile, But Has Slowed Down Considerably. I Did Add 2.0 Usb Port, Spybot,an Epson 7800 Printer/scanner, And Several Other Programs. I Currently Have About 20 Icons On My Desktop.

Apr 29, 2007Specs for the laptop. Intel T2050 @ 1.60ghz 1 gig of ram This is a brand new computer right out of the box. After Xp loaded up I Installed Norton then spybot AD then some games after which I defrag and it took 8 hrs to defrag on a 100 gig HDD. The computer runs very slow and have no clue way.

Oct 11, 2005as the title says my computer takes forever to start. It is a new installation of Windows XP Home as supplied by my Laptop Manufacturer Fujitsu Siemens. I have all the recent updates but this hasn't helped. From day one of the installation it has taken around 2 minutes to start. I have checked for Spyware with Adaware and Spybot and Destroy. I have ran Trend Housecall Anti-Virus online scanner and Panda Online Anti-Virus and nothing. My resident Anti-Virus software is Nod32 and it has detected nothing.I have followed so many guides to try and speed things up but it hasnt done anything. The only things starting up are the virus scanner, freepops(for my Hotmail account) and my synaptics keypad. I have tried disabling them all and its just as slow. I have turned off services that certain websites assure me I do not need and nothing. I have one Unsigned Driver for my WLAN Card but the Supplier doesnt have a signed driver available. It's a Sitecom WL-517 Wireless Broadband Kit PCMCIA adapter. I have uninstalled the device to see if this might be the problem but it still doesnt effect startup time.
I downloaded Bootvis to look at where the time is going and what it shows. It seems to spend an age loading drivers and looking at the Prefetch files this accounts for about 40 seconds. Then it spends another 45 seconds at Windows Logon and Services. From here I have a gap of about 45 seconds where it does nothing it just pauses for another 45 seconds. I have ran Bootvis so that it optimised the system but this did nothing. Having read further I discovered that Windows XP more or less does a BootVis optimisation at every startup and so this would have done nothing anyway. Because of this I ran the Windows XP Home Cd and repaired the Installation so it should be relatively fresh.I must say I am at a loss as to where the problem is.

Apr 22, 2006for awhile now I have been experiencing slow computer start up. My computer will boot to the desktop, then stay there for a few mins. I try clicking icons, not clicking icons, but I still have to wait. *Also* The comp. doesn't sound as if it is loading...sometimes the hourglass cursor will appear, but the CPU never gets loud during this waiting time. I would like to not have to wait every time I get on my computer. Can anyone help? Please! Feb 11, 2007I've gone through a lot of the threads in here and tried a lot of fixes, and I'm still having problems.
I have a Gateway, Windows XP laptop that's about 1 year old. A little over a week ago, it started "running slow". It's slow to start up (takes about 5-10 min), the mouse "sticks" sometimes although that is an intermittent problem, when I have multiple applications minimized (outlook express, firefox, My Documents, AIM), it's slow to toggle between them, and it's slow to open folders in My Documents.

Oct 9, 2010I work with 8 identical PCs at work and at home, they all have same Win XP Pro (bulk license), 6 update automatically, 2 have never been updated.This 2 un-updated, still work fast, (as if windows was freshlly installed) the other 6, keep getting slower, & sluggish. In 4 of them Windows was reinstalled 2 and 3 times; and the remaining 2 became ultra-slow.Software and use is the same on all of them.(office work) No additional software downloaded or installed in any.Should I forget about the "risks" of not updating and reinstall and use the no update option???

Dec 23, 2008This is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)

Sep 26, 2006computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot, it takes that half an hour to an hour again
