I have a modem/fax in my computer and I also have high speed Internet access using a DSL modem. I have connected the modem/fax and the DSL modem to the same phone line using the filter. I intalled the Winfax PRO software in order to use my computer for send/receive faxes. The installation was OK. But this software doesn't work. When I try to send a fax I give the number, I heard the tone but when the Winfax PRO software try to negotiate with the fax I receive an error and I lost the connection. I don't know If the problem is because my phone line was setup for DSL modem. Does anybody has the same problem? Until now I couldn't send or receive any fax.
All the programs on me computer randomal, every now and again (3 times an hour) decide to close with the same lovely error popping up every time about an unexpected error with the 'Send' 'Don't Send' buttons.think I may have two explanations, The RAM, a corrupt system file or a corrupt hard drive.Does anybody have any idea about why this is happening and if so, a solution?

Im not able to do many things due to that. and this is not a virus or something I guess because I have a good AV software and I was using my PC throughout till yesterday evening when I shifted it from 1 room to another. And thats when it happened for the first time.

I would like to send files to my own folders using "Send To". It seems my choice for send to is very limited. When right clicked on a file, I can send only to Desktop, Mail Recipient, and My documents. It did not work either. Could someone advise me to how to increase the target for "Send To" (e.g., D:Important personal folder)?
Every time I exit Overlord I get Send/Don't Send error with modname "ntdll.dll". A mate of mine has the same error. ps: is is normal that Windows XP has so many errors?
I have just re-installed Windows XP Professional SP2 to a blank hard drive.I have re-installed Fax console. I would like to import the sent faxes, the received faxes, and the fax address book from the old drive (which is still perfectly workable). In what subdirectory are these items to be found? What are their filenames (or what is the template for the filenames)?

how i can prevent the little cutsies' of animations that are embedded in some emails i receive from 'moving i would assume they just add 'download' time from my server into O.E. i know how to get to 'advanced' tab within I.E. but don't know 'what' to check or uncheck or if this is even an Explorer situation or O.E. setting. i tried but couldn't make any headway. i hate to ask the sender not to include them but i don't want to hurt feelings either but that's a whole other 'advice' column.
I have installed IIS v5.0/Windows XP. When I try to connect(using an administrator user) to the server(localhost) running IIS, I receive the mesage 'unable to connect'..

I just purchased a new Dell Dimension 9100 (new line for Dell). I loaded Mcafee VirusScan, Firewall and Privacy Service and then downloaded updates for all of the preceeding Mcafee programs (there were many). I also downloaded all critical Windows Security downloads. Everything is working fine except when I work with wordpad/notepad/word or other Microsoft programs. At random, when I open these files, I recieve IE shutdown errors. I created a new wordpad and notepad file, saved both and re-opened them: everything seemed fine. Then I ran Windows Explorer and when I tried to open the wordpad file with explorer, I received IE shutdown errors.
I have a work computer that came with Microsoft Word 2007 already installed on it, i did not recieve any product key or anything. it let me use it 50 times, now it's locked me out and i can't touch it, i tried activating it but i can't without a product key. I tried explaining the situation to the microsoft tech support guy and he just told me i had to buy a product key. I had one of my friends tell me that the same thing happened to him, and that it was some sort of glitch in the '07 office program. Apparently there is a way around it on the internet, but i can't find it and i am by no means tech savvy when it comes to computers...
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop that is one year old. It has 2GB of memory and a Duo Core T5600 processor. I am using Windows XP Home Edition with SP2. I have Norton 360 Version 2.0, Spy Sweeper, and Registry Mechanic installed. I have other programs such as Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, Microsoft Office 2003 with Word as my default, Google Email, and Family Tree Maker 2005 installed. Note that the laptop is a small business version instead of Home and Home Office version, if that makes any difference.
I have received my Windows Update notification that Service Pack 3 is ready for me to download. I have not downloaded yet. I have done some extensive research on problems with SP3 and have found a lot of information, much which is not too praising of SP3. However, most of the stuff that I have found on the internet is older stuff. I have searched MS data to see what they have posted about SP3 problems. What I am looking for here is has anyone had or know of any problems with SP3 that has been download say in the past three months or so?
I'm running XP Pro. Today I received a windows update notification (I have automatic updates set to inform me of available updates before installing). All the updates installed correctly except:Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP x86 (KB979909)and Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 Security Update for Windows 2000 and Windows XP (KB979906).A summary of the related knowledge base pages regarding the failed installations tells me to uninstall, then reinstall all versions of net framework on this machine. Then go back to the Windows Update web site to check once again for updates to the newly reinstalled net framework versions.

I am running windows xp and outlook express. I often receive emails from friends who send me attachments that I cannot open. They are usually from an older computer, probably running microsoft works, not word. They are wps files. I have tried downloading a converter, but it didn't work. Sometimes I can open them but all I get is symbols.

Another problem that occurred about the same time that the "about:blank" problem showed up was one that showed that something couldn't be loaded with McAfee when the desktop was coming up (a scripting problem), and that I had to select "yes" to have java scripts to work.
I was working on my computer last night and everything was fine. This morning I turned it on and got a message saying windows couldn't start because the file windowssystem32configsystem was missing or corrupt. The only option that I seem to have is to reformat and reinstall all the software which will wipe out all of my files. It have weeks of work on that computer. I sometimes back up online but it's been a long time since I've done that. Is there someway that I can fix it without a total reinstall?
My PC began looping from the Dell splash screen to the Windows start-up screen, then clicking off and repeating....over and over. I tried several things and couldn't even get System Restore to work. Finally, after several well-intended friends had me fooling with my command prompts (I'm sure that was a mistake), I decided to just reinstall Windows XP. Well, now it's reinstalled, but I can't connect to the internet, none of my drivers are recognized and nothing is showing up on my desktop, When I go into My Computer and look on my hard drive, all of my programs and files are still there....but the operating system doesn't seem to know where to find them. I have a desktop Dell Dimension 4600.
