View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently was reinstalling windows xp pro . after the fresh install i tried to connect to the internet nothing happened. went to the device manager and apparently the the PC wasn't reading the ethernet controller. so i went home to the dell support to download the necessary drivers needed. i even called dell to make sure i was doing the right thing. needless to say it still does not work... i opened up the CPU to try and find the actual name of the ethernet card and could not. there was a small metal box where you put the ethernet cable into. i did not see a card, yet i know there is one. sorry if I'm confusing. its a dell 8300 with no service code or service tag on it. i check inside and out
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am running XP and have been for some time with no problems, recently my printer began playing up (saying that it wasn't able to communicate) that problem seemed to go away after a while. Since then my computer has been 'getting stuck' after it prints a document.It would print the first document but then nothing after that, i found that the print spooler was showing that the just printed job was marked in status as being deleted... however it would go away and nothing else would get printed. i played around with active processes and found that I could delete the 'deleting' process and get the printing going again.

For quite a while now, whenever my system tries to install the latest version of Win Media Player, most of the installation happens and then I get an error message saying the installation wasn't completed and that I must log on as administrator. View 4 Replies View RelatedMy system worked fine until I loaded a recommended windows update for my NVIDIA Winfast GeForce 3 TDH card. It loaded a driver that wasn't compatible with my widescreen LCD monitor. I reloaded what I thought was the NVIDIA driver 93.71 forceware for XP and things work better, but... I'm getting an annoying flash anytime I right click on a video file icon OR when I go open the NVIDIA control panel OR when I go into the video advanced settings on my desktop. Those are the only times I get the flash. It's not really a flash but more like my monitor is out of vertical phase. It's rapid and brief. Not a critical problem but I would like to find a fix. I've tried every refresh rate and setting with in the NVIDIA controls but I can't get rid of it. if I didn't know it didn't do this previously, I'd ignore or replace my card. I do not have the original driver for this card because I bought it used without it. Perhaps someone could suggest a better driver?

Discovered that the reason Print Management Console wasn't an option in the Admin Tools because you have to install it from Disk 2. Tried to install it and was told that the version of windows I was running wasnt the correct one for this update. Tried updating to R2 (how do you tell if the version your running is R2 or not?) but was told the version of Windows I was running is newer than the one on the disk. All I want is the PMC installed...
1) How do I tell whether I am already running R2 or not?
2) How do I get the PMC on this damn server?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMan, my computer for the last two weeks have been crashing like an emo. I mean, when I play GTA: San Adreas, in 20 minutes, I get a BSOD with a stop error. When I put hardware acceleration to full, in a half an hour, I get a BSOD with a similar error. Believe me, I got three kinds of errors, and some were from different time. I believe the problem either came from the either the PSU, new 512 mb of ram, old 512, CPU, system board, or the graphic card. I'll try to post the error as best as I can. So, is there a solution to this?

Also, sometimes, after it tries to recover from a serious error, the computer shuts down during the bootup before I can choose which XP version I can choose.

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one.
When I'm trying to start up Windows XP Home Edition I receive an error box without an error message, I can just click YES or NO. Neither option let's me continue. When starting up in Safe Mode, everything works fine.

When I close the box, i lose my desktop, and can't run a bunch of programs, including the "run" option. I am able to run my browsers and get on the web. I did do a system restore, and it worked at first, but then on the next reboot, i got the error message again. Did another system restore, same thing.

I have connected the modem/fax and the DSL modem to the same phone line using the filter. I intalled the Winfax PRO software in order to use my computer for send/receive faxes. The installation was OK. But this software doesn't work. When I try to send a fax I give the number, I heard the tone but when the Winfax PRO software try to negotiate with the fax I receive an error and I lost the connection. I don't know If the problem is because my phone line was setup for DSL modem. Does anybody has the same problem? Until now I couldn't send or receive any fax.

I loaded Mcafee VirusScan, Firewall and Privacy Service and then downloaded updates for all of the preceeding Mcafee programs (there were many). I also downloaded all critical Windows Security downloads. Everything is working fine except when I work with wordpad/notepad/word or other Microsoft programs. At random, when I open these files, I recieve IE shutdown errors. I created a new wordpad and notepad file, saved both and re-opened them: everything seemed fine. Then I ran Windows Explorer and when I tried to open the wordpad file with explorer, I received IE shutdown errors.

I tried explaining the situation to the microsoft tech support guy and he just told me i had to buy a product key. I had one of my friends tell me that the same thing happened to him, and that it was some sort of glitch in the '07 office program. I have Norton 360 Version 2.0, Spy Sweeper, and Registry Mechanic installed. I have other programs such as Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, Microsoft Office 2003 with Word as my default, Google Email, and Family Tree Maker 2005 installed. Note that the laptop is a �small business� version instead of �Home and Home Office� version, if that makes any difference.
I have received my Windows Update notification that Service Pack 3 is ready for me to download. I have not downloaded yet. I have done some extensive research on problems with SP3 and have found a lot of information, much which is not too praising of SP3. However, most of the stuff that I have found on the internet is �older� stuff. I have searched MS data to see what they have posted about SP3 problems. What I am looking for here is has anyone had or know of any problems with SP3 that has been download say in the past three months or so?
