I want to know if adding a fax means physically connecting a fax machine with the computer. If a fax machine is not needed, do I receive faxes via my printer? How do I fax to others?
View 1 RepliesIn the printer and faxes window there are printer icons listed in addition to my default HP Printer. Whiy are they listed there and what do they do since you can't use them...or can you and if so, how? Two that are listed on my computer are:

Quicken PDF Printer
Two custom PCs with XP Pro at same SP level. PC1 sees printer through switch. PC2 can not see printer. PC2 connects and sees printer when I cable the USB DIRECTLY to the printer instead of going thru a switch. Therefore, I know PC2 can print. Have tried 2 different switches. An A/B data switch and Belkin's 4x1 USB Peripheral Switch F1U401. PC1 works with both switches but PC2 does not.

They are usually from an older computer, probably running microsoft works, not word. They are wps files. I have tried downloading a converter, but it didn't work. Sometimes I can open them but all I get is symbols.

And She can't access the internet from her system. View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically ive been having problems with a computer for a while, everytime i connect my iPod or 512MB Memory stick it freezes my computer, but my printer is working fine through the usb?! It seems to be anything mass storage i think. I have reinstalled XP Home, downloaded all the updates, downloaded all the drivers for the computer from the Packard Bells website, deleted all the devices in device manager and let them find themself again but dont seem to do no good!

I dont know if this is in the right Forum as its a strange one.Just before i was playing on Counter Strike and the computer crashed.The power was still on, on the CPU, and also on the Speakers and Monitor.But the Monitor isnt picking up the Computer, ive tried a different monitor but to no avail.Ive basically just swapped all the wires over from the computer onto one of my old computers which im on now, and there was no problems what so ever.So clearly its something wrong with the other computer, but it still powers up and is running, but just nothing appears on my screen

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy printer locks upp my entire WinXp pro when telling it to print something out.There's nothing wrong with the printer itself or the cables attached to it, a've checked on another comp. Also tried to reinstall the LPT1 port and the drivers several times without no success. Even checked so that there's no other software that interferes with the printer drivers. and did run a virus check, both in Win and in pure DOS-mode, nothing. Starting to suspect that the LPTport on my Mobo- ASUS P4P800E Deluxe is screwed.The setting in BIOS is set to ECP as default and can't be manipulated.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with my HP 6122 printer, trying to print a cover for a family history.The cover contains a small b/w photo in center, a caption of one line and framed with a thin blue line, and the whole page framed with the same blue line on the border.I wanted the photo to be printed in "best" as anything less bring moire to the photo.Every time I have tried to do this, the printer does nothing for a minute or so, then proceeds to print the entire page black. What has happened?I can't afford to waste any more black ink, even when I'm watching so I can stop the printing before the whole page is covered.I usually have 2+ inches before I can see it to turn the Printer off.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP Professional with SP2. I have 1 GB of RAM and a Pentium 4 running at 2.81 GHz. Things were working AOK until I ran several anti-virus programs being Registry Mechanic, SpyBot, Ad-Aware SE, PestPatrol, & a trial version of Webroot Spy Sweeper. I seemed to start having printing problems (Epson Stylus Photo RX600) after running those. Documents start to print, but only print the first line or two of the document and in color and black and sometimes "garbage" and then it scrolls through and starts on another sheet of paper and so on and so forth. It doesn't stop, so I access my printer monitor and tell it to cancel all documents. Well, it takes forever to do that and so I shut off the printer and then everything seemed to stop printing. The next time I try to print something, I get the same problem. I even downloaded updated Epson printer software from the Epson site and installed it after deleting my old Epson printer software
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get my Canon IP8500 printer to work with my Samsung NC20 netbook which is running Windows XP.Usually I simply plug the printer into any Windows XP computer and it'll automatically install the necessary drivers. However, when I plug it into my netbook and instruct Windows XP to automatically search/find and install the drivers, it can't find any.So I've gone onto the Canon website and manually downloaded the drivers, but when I try to install them via the setup.exe it says that a newer driver is already installed, and aborts the setup.The weird thing is that there definitely isn't a driver already installed, because I've even gone into device manager and uninstalled the printer/driver before trying again.

I guess I deleted something important because since then I haven't been able to access any hardware. I tried to repair by going back to an earlier setting but it wont do that either. I would like to import the sent faxes, the received faxes, and the fax address book from the old drive (which is still perfectly workable). In what subdirectory are these items to be found? I have connected the modem/fax and the DSL modem to the same phone line using the filter. I intalled the Winfax PRO software in order to use my computer for send/receive faxes. The installation was OK. But this software doesn't work. When I try to send a fax I give the number, I heard the tone but when the Winfax PRO software try to negotiate with the fax I receive an error and I lost the connection. I don't know If the problem is because my phone line was setup for DSL modem. Does anybody has the same problem? Until now I couldn't send or receive any fax.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a white box Pentium 4 CPU with XP professional service pack 2 build 2600 installed. The motherboard is an intel D865GLC with 512 MB RAM installed in Dual channel mode with 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 1 and 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 2. This memory is dual channel compatible. I tried to add another 2 sticks of the same type ram but from a different manufacturer.
Here's the problem: I can use any 2 of the 4 sticks of ram together, both from the same manufacturer or 1 from 1 manufacturer and 1 from the other for a total of 512 MB. Everything works fine. I can place one stick in slot 0 of bank 1 and the other in slot 0 of bank 2 or I can place 1 in slot 1 bank 1 and 1 in slot 1 of bank 2 with no problems. I can even place a 3rd stick of the same type ram in any open slot and all's fine (except the machine complains that this is not an optimal memory setup). Memtest86 reports no errors with any of the above configurations

I loaded Mcafee VirusScan, Firewall and Privacy Service and then downloaded updates for all of the preceeding Mcafee programs (there were many). I also downloaded all critical Windows Security downloads. Everything is working fine except when I work with wordpad/notepad/word or other Microsoft programs. At random, when I open these files, I recieve IE shutdown errors. I created a new wordpad and notepad file, saved both and re-opened them: everything seemed fine. Then I ran Windows Explorer and when I tried to open the wordpad file with explorer, I received IE shutdown errors.

I tried explaining the situation to the microsoft tech support guy and he just told me i had to buy a product key. I had one of my friends tell me that the same thing happened to him, and that it was some sort of glitch in the '07 office program. Apparently there is a way around it on the internet, but i can't find it and i am by no means tech savvy when it comes to computers...
