Sep 16, 2005
I upgraded iTunes a couple of days ago. Now all of a sudden my virus/firewall software is popping up messages the mDNSResponder is trying to access the net. The file is located in c:Program FilesBonjour along with some other new files. I tried to delete the Bonjour file, but it will not let me delete them. I know the program got on my computer is from updating iTunes and it is from Apple but I want to know how to get it off
I set up Windows NetMeeting and it works within my LAN with a local IP address. But when I try to make a call in Netmeeting over the Internet I immediately eceive message 'The other did not accept your call'.I set the firewall to open up ports 1720, 1503, 389, & 522.

After long periods of my internet connection being idle (2+ hours usually), all programs requiring internet access are unable to connect. By idle I mean I leave to run some errands with no programs other than Zone Alarm running. My DSL modem still has all lights flashing and active. There are a couple other scenarios where this occurs as well. Ex. I'm playing WoW for extended periods but not using the internet through any other program, then upon alt-tabbing no other applications are able to connect to the internet even though WoW is still connected and functioning. Rebooting the router/modem doesn't fix it, but rebooting the comp does.
I think that I have a virus which is stopping me from 1) Installing Norton Internet Security 2005 properly, and 2) Stopping me from accessing all anti-virus related sites, for example - www.symantec.com, ww.grisoft.com, www.pandasoftware.com, and when i tried to download AVG 6.0 from another site which was unrelated to antivirus, I found that I could access the site but the download failed.
a pc with windows xp pro suddenly started not to access the internet or the workgroup it normally worked on. ethernet card is present in hardware devices, network connection says it "is there", the IP numbers etc. are all as they were.I have even tried a rollback to the time it worked fine, but no net
computer in my possession crashed, and when i reset, my internet has gone wonky. I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. Limewire, also, will connect, but wont download anything without msn being logged in. How do i get back to how it was? And no, system restore did not work.
It has been bugging me; I have a pentium 4 2.4 Ghz running Windows XP Pro and I do a lot of number crunching. If I want to 'multitask' by clicking another program icon or aplet anywhere on my screen, it usually takes about thirty seconds to respond. My other machine is a PIII with 933Mhz and Windows 98SE. I get a second program to come up in under 5 seconds, no matter how busy the CPU. I was told XP was 'truely multitasking' since there was no DOS to overlay, was this all hype? I know that memory and background tasks can affect this, but my real question is this;Is there an Administrative or setup function that tells XP 'How' to manage programs, like Windows 98, (you can set the pc to Server, or Workstation mode (or was it desktop;
I was configuring my system with the follow tools secpol.msc and gpedit.msc, when reboted my pc the service Remote Procedure Call (RPC) didnt want to start anymore, when i tried to start it manual, then I get the follow error messenge (Could not start the remote Procedure Call (RPC) on Local Computer 'Error 5: Access denied' This is a very big issue cause windows xp can not function normally without the (RPC) service and allso i cant open the tools secpol.msc and gpedit.msc
I recently did an install of Windows XP pro on a few boxes. The key I used is supposed to be a volume license key. As far as I know, volume keys require no activation. However, upon booting up the machines it does in fact require activation. Am I missing something here? Should I just call Microsoft and have them activate them?
What the heck is this? some Atlantic MG mt service Called the inegretel # said someone downloaded software, I DONT THINK SO. No one here but me, and I never downloaded anything. They said it came from the modem? Windows XP Pro Problem began today.farlier today, the PC had booted to a disk reading error, using HDD #1, see below.I put in HDD #2 & life was good. When I had a chance to work on the problem [ disk reading error ] the BSOD & "bad_pool_data" error appeared.0x000000C2 [ 0x00000043, 0xDAE3E000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 ]I have read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314492/EN-US/ .The solution described is "Greek to me".The same problem appeared on HDD #2, so I thought I had bad ram. I tested the ram; swapped it out AND ran diags.
I'm running the WinXP Pro ver. 2002 OS in a home built desk top machine. Problem is with the Remote Procedure Call (RPC).I have mistakenly disabled this Service from Profiles and when the computer rebooted it opened up into "Safe Mode" and is locked. Can't get it out of safe mode.I tried to undo my mistake and cannot enable this service. Messages say I can't open Properties boxes from any of the Services listed in the My Computer/Manage/Computer Management /Services & Apps/Services... window.
After removing Musicmatch from my computer I cannot access my CD or DVD drives. I've read (Microsoft Knowledge Base) that after removing CD writing programs that this sometimes happens and that some changes need to be made in the registry. It is stressed that a backup of the registry should be made before making any changes to the registry . . . AT YOU OWN RISK. My question is - how big is the registry - can I backup to a floppy or USB Flash drive or should I put the backup on my hard drive? Also, if there is a problem with the registry now, would it be silly to back up a registry that is not correct I am running XP Home Edition - "Backup" is supposedly on my XP CD but I'm not able to use CD drive
There are 4 accounts on the computer, all administrators. Of the 4, only one account has access to everything. The other 3 accounts all have Access Denied pop-ups when trying to open any file on the C: drive.
I tried rebooting in safe mode and logging in as administrator to see what the security settings where. After looking there I found out that all 4 accounts have full rights to all folders, sub folders, and files on the C: drive.
I've just installed a new voip router alongside my broadband router and it all worked fine. Sadly I can't log on to "My Ebay" page and a couple of other sites which I log into, I can access the home pages it's just the log in sections I can't access.
I've tried deleting my cookies in the Internet Options area, but I still can't log in, does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do next or what the problem might be
I am unable to access either files or programs in XP. If I go into the Start menu, clicking on my programs or my files freezes the computer.I can go online. I can boot up all programs on the start page, and run them. I can access the five "last" files in Word. I can receive and send Email. I get a baloon message on startup indicating the "you have files waiting to be written to the CD. To see them now, click the baloon". Clicking the baloon freezes the computer.I can't get to the point where I could delete files or programs.
I have a user here at work uses a Windows Xp laptop. Right now he is using OWA to view his emails. But how can he be setup to have access to the network to use his public folders and such? He takes his laptop everywhere goes he would like to have full access to the company network.
I want to access my home computer via the internet when I work in my office. My home computer is behind a router. I enable the virtual server function of the router. How can I do next? I had installed the VNC/Netmeeting/Dameware in my computer. I knew the cable connection's static IP address and my home computer's virtual ip address.
i had win xp Home edition on my main hdd.. then i came up with the stupid idea to repair windows... after i had done that windows didn't start anymore..so i installed windows on another hdd and then i sat the hdd with broken windows as slave and started it up so that i could access all my files before formating the hdd... but i could only access the files from 3 out of 4 users, one of the users i could access where password-protected and so was mine.. but i couldnt access the personal files from my old user
I am having concern spyaxe and seems to be going around a bit. I have tried to trouble shoot it myself but im just getting different error messages popping up and my home page has been hijacked.
When I try to boot my computer reaches the windows screen then restarts, and keeps repeating this. Sometimes it throws up a bad pool caller error and a bsod. It gives me a Stop code: 0xc2 (0x43, 0xc3af4000, 0x0, 0x0) Additionally my keyboard no longer works, at least during startup which is all I can access. True for both USB and ps2 keyboard. The numlock light can be turned on but that's about it. So I know the connection is working but the boards still don't work, which means I've been unable to get to safe mode or into bios settings.
I have successfully completed a repair install but not all of the old user accounts are accessible using windows explorer. Two accounts plus the old administrator account show 'Access Denied'. I would like to retrieve the accounts' files and know the old passwords. I can't even delete them.
Please tell me how to allow a user on a winME pc to access her account/files on a Winxp home (Sp2) Compac Pressario laptop. The xphome laptop has all connections mapped via the 'guest" account. (this is a workgroup, not a domain)? Small (2 pc) home workgroup ( no domain)using Cat5 crossover with static IPs assigned.
When i try to install a game before i can complete my installation i receive this error message:"error number: 0x800040707, Dll function call crashed: chkreqs.setup window". I think its something to do with the dll files windows uses. Does anyone know what i need to do to fix this problem?
I purchased the following system from Costco and was glad I was able to purchase the system complete without having to add components after the sale. I have tried and tried to get used to Vista (6 months) but as I am disabled and my brain doesn't always compute efficiently, I've had difficulties. Mostly with getting things recognized on the small network in my home. My other computers run XP and I wonder if there is not some conflict with the different operating systems trying to access the same files and printers? Finally I just decided to go back to XP..
I would normally always specify machines with XP Pro on them. However we need to buy some new laptops for some staff who work away from our office, and the only spec as supplied is with XP HomeThese machines only occasionnaly have to physically connect to our network in the office, but will always have to PN into our servers via the Internet.I am not really sure what the difference were between XP Pro and XP Home.
