I'm running the WinXP Pro ver. 2002 OS in a home built desk top machine. Problem is with the Remote Procedure Call (RPC).I have mistakenly disabled this Service from Profiles and when the computer rebooted it opened up into "Safe Mode" and is locked. Can't get it out of safe mode.I tried to undo my mistake and cannot enable this service. Messages say I can't open Properties boxes from any of the Services listed in the My Computer/Manage/Computer Management /Services & Apps/Services... window.

I am new at trying to use Remote Assistance. When I try to send an invitation to start a RA session, I get a dialogue box that says "A program could not start. Please try again". Anybody got any idea what program it is talking about?When I go into the "Advanced System Information" and then choose "View the
error log", it tells me that the WmiAdapter "Open of service failed".In the Control Panel,Administrative Tools, Services page the services Windows Management Instrumentation is set to Auto, and the WMI Performance Adapter is set to Manual.

It has been bugging me; I have a pentium 4 2.4 Ghz running Windows XP Pro and I do a lot of number crunching. If I want to 'multitask' by clicking another program icon or aplet anywhere on my screen, it usually takes about thirty seconds to respond. My other machine is a PIII with 933Mhz and Windows 98SE. I get a second program to come up in under 5 seconds, no matter how busy the CPU. I was told XP was 'truely multitasking' since there was no DOS to overlay, was this all hype? I know that memory and background tasks can affect this, but my real question is this;Is there an Administrative or setup function that tells XP 'How' to manage programs, like Windows 98, (you can set the pc to Server, or Workstation mode (or was it desktop;

I recently did an install of Windows XP pro on a few boxes. The key I used is supposed to be a volume license key. As far as I know, volume keys require no activation. However, upon booting up the machines it does in fact require activation. Am I missing something here? Should I just call Microsoft and have them activate them?

The title says it all! Basically I have a comp running XP pro and I want to be able to work locally on one user account, with some kind of remote access server running on another XP user account so that the remote account and the local account can be used simultaniously. I know that this cannot be done with XP Pro remote desktop and could be by Windows Server 2003 remote desktop, but i need an alternate solution to make this happen.

I'm looking in using either using Remote Assitance and/or Desktop in a help desk support environment. For example, if a user calls in asking for assistance with a application, or if we are in need of troubleshooting the machine, we would like to initate a remote assistance request that takes the end user out of the equation so we don't need to walk them through how to send a email/file request.

When I try to boot my computer reaches the windows screen then restarts, and keeps repeating this. Sometimes it throws up a bad pool caller error and a bsod. It gives me a Stop code: 0xc2 (0x43, 0xc3af4000, 0x0, 0x0) Additionally my keyboard no longer works, at least during startup which is all I can access. True for both USB and ps2 keyboard. The numlock light can be turned on but that's about it. So I know the connection is working but the boards still don't work, which means I've been unable to get to safe mode or into bios settings.

I have two different computers both running Windows XP professional. I am trying to connect to one remotely using the Remote Desktop Connection. I have enabled the remote computer for remote logins but for some reason I cannot connect with it. I get the error message that the client could not connect to the remote session. I have 50 other computers on this network all set up the same way and have never had a problem. Everything seems to be configured exactly the same. I can ping the remote computer.

Here is my problem. I am logged in to a machine via remote desktop and another user with admin rights logs in via remote desktop and logs me off because they assumed that I had forgotten to log off or whatever else. Is there any permission setting either in group policy or elsewhere that would prevent a user attempting to connect via remote desktop from logging off an already logged on user? The problem is that both users are and need to be Admins.

I have 2 machines behind a Netgear router. The XP Home one can ask for remote assistance. The XP Pro one cannot. When the invite a friend to offer remote assistance link is clicked, the message "A program could not start. Please try again" appears. It comes up with the exclamation sound and the message box claims to be from Internet Explorer.I found a file called constants.js on the machine that had that message text in it...in two places. One of them is NO CHANNEL,and the other is NO Recession I edited the constants.js file and it changed the "A program could not start. Please try again" message so that I could tell that the NO CHANNEL message is being sent to me.

After waking from hibernation, my system has been freezing or crashing. The video is also fuzzy and slightly pixelated for a minute, then it clears up. Sometimes after the crash, I'll get a message floating on the screen "Set resolution to 1280 x 1024" or something like that. The screen has been set the same since I purchased the computer. I did try resetting the resolution, and I am still crashing. I followed the procedure for malware and came up ok.

I have a 1.2TB HD setup...created from 4 drives. 2 500GB WD, 1 80GB WD and 1 160 GB WD (western digital). I use the 1000GB (E for data only, the 80GB (C as my Primary Partition (only trusted apps), and 160GB (Dfor everything else. Lately I noticed that my D: drive was missing, windows shows no sign of it, But all the shortcut icons are in place, clicking one results in "file missing". I got the drive to come back by using safe mode and running msconfig to load only necessary drivers, but the drive disappeared again after some time and I had to repeat the procedure.
