It literally cleared my computer right out and my system restore option dissapeared off of my files, so that idea is scratched! I slowly recovered some files but all my software downloads are going to Kazaa now!

With KaZaA closed navigate to C:WindowsSystem32AdCache 2. Delete all files within 'AdCache', leave the 'Temp' folder but make sure it is empty 3. I'm familiar with XP's search not finding files that actually exist (particularly when searching for files containing the specification) but this time it's finding files that, as far as I can see, don't exist. And it's doing it when searching for a file specification. Yes, I have view hidden files turned on.The only clue I have is that the files that do exist show the full path, e.g. C:LnDevetc while the files that don't exist show the path as etc. Search In is set to LnDev. Since I'm sending the results to a third party simply ignoring the bogus files isn't an option. So far the only 'solution' I've found is to set up a Win2K machine & conduct the search on it. Win2K shows the correct results, WinXP doesn't (verified on 2 machines)

Long 39 hour transfer, middle of night MS downloaded update to my old computer then rebooted. View 1 Replies View RelatedI do not have an "Internet Connection Sharing" section when I go into the wireless network selection properties, and then click on advanced. All that is showing up is the windows firewall. I am using a Linksys Wireless G PCI network adaptor. I am on Windows XP, professional, 2002, SP2. Someone I know has the same system, but it is the media center edition and it has the ICS section under the advanced tab... I'm not sure if the media center edition has anything to do with it or not. Am I missing a driver? Is there anything that I can do about this?

The account is Administrator, and I have used WindowBlinds with it in the past. I don't even know if WindowBlinds has anything to do with the problem, but it didn't start until around the point that I was using it. But it is uninstalled now, and I still get the error.There is another account on the computer, it is my sisters, and it can access the User Accounts section just fine... but it is not an Administrator account so it isn't much help for me.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI changed the BOOT.INI section of msconfig to boot windows in Safemode. Upon getting in Safemode, the computer finally recognized USB devices and the CD drive again (wasn't doing so in normal mode). So, I insert a Windows XP disc, used the Advanced install mode (the one that overwrites the previous installation of Windows), and everything seemed to be going great.
However, the machine restarts and tells me this "Windows XP Setup cannot run under Safemode. Setup will restart now." and has an OK button. I click it, thinking it's going to boot into normal mode. Well, it doesn't. It boots up again, says the same thing.I click OK.Restart.Again.OK.On and on into infinity.
I do run>MSconfig and msconfig comes up. I deselect several programs in the startup and services tabs and exit, so the window comes up saying I have to restart my computer for the changes to take effect. I click restart and the computer reboots. On my desktop comes a window about the System Configuration Utility and how some things have changed. A large section of the window is missing, so that the extreme bottom end of the window is a checkable box that says "Do not show this message again" which I select. However, this System Configuration Utility window pops up every time I boot up my computer. But when I put the computer back in normal mode, the window doesn't pop up on reboots.

Now, the problem I am mainly having is after I download them to a CD to put in her system, either I cannot unzip them because I don't have Express Zip or when I place them in the correct folder (going by online instruction) either I get another error message or it says being used by windows somewhere else. View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer was recently in for repair. I told the technician under no account were any files to be deleted/erased. When I got the computer home after repair I noticed that although my files were indeed 'untouched' (not deleted) they were however in a 'place' where I knew I would have trouble finding. I made a mental note that I would get back to finding my photos later. I had to download and re-install my security system first and foremost as well as Windows updates. One of these Windows Updates (Service Pack 3 maybe) advised to back-up my files before installing. I didn't.
Now I can't find these files/photos/pictures anywhere on my computer. There were over 4000.
Have I lost these for good ? Or is there a way to recover them ?
i accidently dragged some files to the "C:Documents and SettingAll UsersDocumentsConfig" and now whenever i click those folders so that i can open them it gives me an error "C:Documents and SettingAll UsersDocumentsConfigFILES" is not accessible Access Denied it also tell me that the FOLDER is EMPTY what's worst is that it's still taking space from my drive i dont know if there's a way that i can recover those files or at least delete the folder
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer rebooted itself a few days ago. When it did this my computer stopped at the log in user screen. I've never had any other users setup on my computer. When rebooting it always goes straight to the windows desktop. After that I noticed that my desktop picture and all of the folders I had on the desktop were gone. My favorites were removed form IE8 and I keep getting a security settings warning bar that doesn't let me fix it. I click fix my setting and it looks like it does then on the next page it pops up again. So I had to create another user with admin rights to use for the internet. I can find all of my files that were on the desktop but they are showing up under user owner but if I log into widows with user owner they don't show up.
