I'm running a Dell Latitude D500 w/XP Pro and have installed SP. Now, everytime I boot I get this balloon that tells me my computer may be at risk. The thing is, it isn't. And if it was, I hate the balloons along with others that tell me other things.The question, how do I shut that thing off? I can't find it anywhere in the Windows Security Alert section or Security Alerts section. Does anyone of you pros know how?

I keep it very clean, anyway enuff of my sadness.Jus recently i was hit by a virus. AVG free, finally cleaned it up, and now im receiving Windows Security Alerts. The exact message is "To help protect your computer, Your registry has to be fixed. To resolve theis problem, obtain the latest update." only trouble is, i click accept, it downloads this program called System Registry Cleaner 2.4, and then i have to pay for it before i can use it. Unfortunately it doesnt accept solo, so i went ahead and purchased a registry cleaner from somewhere else.

It has an S-Video out port, and my tv has RCA ports only, so i purchased a cable which is s-video to an rca connector for my video in. Well when I boot up my laptop, when i get to the welcome screen in xp, it starts to display on my tv, but then about 5 to 10 seconds after that it flickers and the picture goes away.Ive tried everything in the display settings and also enabled everything in my BOIS, with no luck.

The bigger problem is that I cant uninstall it. I have tried through Control Panel, and the tips Microsoft gives themselves. I guess a problem is that it is preinstalled on the computer. The HDD has been low level formatted and is clean, I also know it to be fully operational, It won't boot from the USB port, so there is no hope of loading XP back onto it through a usb dvd drive. I have read that there is a docking port adapter for this thing, but the cost of finding one; well, you do the math. I have tried repeatedly to 'preload' DOS or even XP to no avail. Call it Karma or stupidity, but I simply can not find a definitive answer as to how to get anything onto the laptop drive stable enough to get Xp to load normally. Forget the preloading from another computer because all it does is 'windows' logo and then blue screen, so that's out. and no amount of bios jocky-ing is going to do it either. And just to be redundant, this isn't a netbook or current technology that recognizes booting from the usb port, so we can skip that too.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI do not have an "Internet Connection Sharing" section when I go into the wireless network selection properties, and then click on advanced. All that is showing up is the windows firewall. I am using a Linksys Wireless G PCI network adaptor. I am on Windows XP, professional, 2002, SP2. Someone I know has the same system, but it is the media center edition and it has the ICS section under the advanced tab... I'm not sure if the media center edition has anything to do with it or not. Am I missing a driver? Is there anything that I can do about this?
