It has been suggested that using a proxy server will help to make my system more secure while I'm online. I looked at some of the suggested free proxy servers, but they seemed not to work well if at all. The explanations were well enough for me to follow but my system ran exceedingly slow or the sites I tried to access disallowed this. So I want to find a reliable site to buy one. I came across HIDE MY IP site and it looked easy to follow and was not overly expensive. My main thought was, how can I tell when a site which offers programs is actually not unscrupulous?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to use a proxy server at work but not at home. I would love an icon on the desktop that I could click when I arrive at work that would start IE and Firefox, change their proxy settings to 'On' and then close the programs. Similarly, when I get home, I would like to click another icon to do the reverse.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm at work, behind a firewall that blocks port 3389 at a minimum, I don't know if the work firewall is blocking RDP packets completely. I have TSWEB running on one of two home PCs, and I'd like to remote desktop to the other. This tests corectly from home, and I can get to the TSWEB machine from here
at work. My TSWEB machine listens for HTTP on port 401 (http://homepc:401/tsweb), and the machine I want to remote to is using standard 3389. My router is forwarding port 401 to the TSWEB machine, and is forwarding port 3389 to the remote desktop machine. My questions are below Am I correct in assuming that the TSWEB machine is not acting as a proxy for RDP packets?
What can I do to remove references to George's account, who no longer uses the computer?
This problem was noted when I worked on it to remove spyware & viruses. That issue has been resolved.
I apologize for any confusion & will do my best to clarify the situation. B123

For me backup files are not necessary, so I deleted the contents then installed WOW in its spot. Then later on I decided to merge this partition using partition magic. While merging my computer crashed. My C: drive is saying that it has the contents of the old partition, but it is not accessible or visible. I tried using partition magics drive mapper to make these files go into c: but it did nothing.

I just switch hosts for one of my web sites. I change the name servers and they have propgated because I checked the DNS on a DNS report website and the domain name points to the new host. Everyone can connect to the new host and view my web site except for me. The only way I can connect and view my web site is if I go to it through a proxy. I tried flushing the cache. I tried clearing the temporary internet files and history. I tried disabling the negative caching through the registry. I tried restarting the dns client service.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter I open Wordpad it takes 20 seconds before the cursor starts blinking and I can type. This just recently started. Any ideas as to what is causing this? It's so bothersome that I'm now using Notepad whenever possible but I'd much rather use Wordpad. I've scanned with several virus scanners and they all come up clean. Thanks
View 14 Replies View RelatedRecently I have noticed that my PC has been loading things really slowly. When I start my computer, there is a black screen with a loading bar at the bottom, which takes atleast five minutes to load. When I launch a game, it takes ages for it to start up and it also takes ages to join a server. I tried reformating, but it didn't help. When I was installing one of my games, I found that it took about 10 times as long to install. And while it was installing, I couldn't do anything else because it slowed everything down. It's like my RAM has been lowered or something. I am guessing it may be a hardware problem.

When trying to check "my account" on a webpage it doesn't let me navigate, it boots me out back to the sign in page. I can sign in and see the welcome page (it says "Welcome and my name") but when I try to go to another page in the site (for example "my account") it won't let me go. Also my internet homepage is Yahoo, when I refresh or open to the homepage Yahoo never loads ... I have to click "GO" to get the page to load. Are these two problems related somehow? Anyone?

When I am on the comp normally, on the internet, using Word, etc. it's all fine. The problem only starts when I try to play a dvd. Sometimes, it will play for a little while and then I hear a 'click' sound and the comp freezes. I would have to press the restart button for it to do anything.Other times, as soon as the DVD drive starts to load a dvd, a 'click' sound is heard, and it freezes.Sometimes, the same happens as above, and the BLUE SCREEN shows up- says something about memory dump..I don't know what to do! I've tried using a different programs to load the DVD, e.g. Power DVD, Windows Media Player, AVI... don't think it makes a difference now! (When I changed from Power DVD to WMP it worked for a week or so, then it started all over again! This problem started when I still had my old DVD drive, which was 8X and now I have a 16X. At first it was all fine, but a couple of weeks later it started again.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever I start my PC, 90 percent of the time it loads to the desktop but explorer.exe wont run. If I start Task Manager and run it from there, for the first few minutes an error pops up saying I don't have admin rights to access the file, but then later on it runs ok. But then, when it does load, only the volume control will load on the start bar, and if I try to access anything, (internet etc.) it doesnt work at all. Also my Folder Options in the Control Panel have disappeared, and Ive tried many ways to get it back, such as running gpedit, and it also wont let me access the registry, saying I dont have admin rights, even though I am the only user of the PC, and I have full admin rights. Sometimes it won't load at all, just booting to a black screen with the pointer stuck in the middle, and I have to restart it to get it to do anything.
If I run the computer in safe mode, the explorer bar has a 50/50 chance of loading on startup, and I still have the same problems. I ran Webroot Spy Sweeper, which picked a few spy cookies and whatnot, but nothing significant, but it seems to be getting progressively worse every time I restart the PC.The PC also refuses to boot the XP startup disk, cos I wanted to Repair Windows to see if that would fix the problem, and also trying to reset to default with BIOS and using MSCONFIG didnt work either. Im pretty sure Im forgetting something else that was quite important, but I cant remember what it is.... also System Restore has been wiped clean, so I cant restore my PC to an earlier time... I tried running a Virus scan using Virgin Media antivirus and Webroot Spy Sweeper Deep System Scan, but no luck, both just picked up minore spy cookie and stuff
