I have a sony vaio laptop model vgn-n220e and it came with vista which sucks by the way. I loaded xp pro on it and now i just need help finding drivers so i can get my power/battery settings back, wireless interent, sound so on, would really appreciated someone pointing me in the right direction
View 93 RepliesI have just partitioned my hard drive on my computer running Windows Vista, renamed the partition 'X' and I wish to install Windows XP Professional.I have loaded the disk, got the Welcome screen up, clicked the green Install Windows' button and I get This programme is blocked due to incompatibility problems'. It quotes the Windows version on the equipment is more recent than the CD version.It recommends finding a solution on line.Once I get to the Windows site, I don't know what to look for.Should I have done more in setting up the partition (which is already in NTFS format.)I have to do this myself as I am not in a locality with ready help on hand.I am running a Compaq with AMD Athlon 64 X2 D C Processor with 2.87GB of memory.

Have checked all settings that I can think of ? Ran spyware, anti-virus and registry fix.Running xpsp2.
I just remove a program using add/remove program. Only then I remembered that i put some files in that program folder. It seem add/remove also delete the folder with all it's contents. Is there anyway I can retrive my files back?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a five year old dell dimensions 8200. Three years ago, I added a 250 gig. D-drive. My computer has been so slow that I wanted to reinstall windows. So, erased and formatted my D-drive and put windows on it. I then added a program called "Wipe Drive" in order to erase my C-drive. (I was thinking to use my d-drive mainly and c-drive for backup). I closed my computer, then when I went to reboot, i first got the message "ntldr is missing press control alt delete." So, I did this. I soon did not get the ntlrd message and got a message saying failure to boot and press contol, alt, delete to restart. I tried to instal windows again and it did not boot. I did the f2 thing and made sure my cd-rom was first. I did the f12 thing and tried to open cd. Nothing has worked to help boot or get to the blue screen that lets me choose drive.I think I erased important start up info on my c-drive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLately my computer had been getting slower and slower, so I decided that I would "reformat" it. I got my compaq recovery cd and restarted my computer and brought up the setup. Apparently I made the mistake of pressing the restore defaults option because now my computer won't boot up. It will show the compaq thing and then it brings me to a black screen that says "Starting Windows 98" and then lists some information that doesn't pertain to rebooting the computer and then gives me this A:> and then the option to type somthing. So far I can't find out what to do. I also can't find a way to use my recovery cd either. Is there anyway that I can get my computer back again by either setup, the disk, or the A:> function? If so can someone please help me?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a dual boot system Vista/XP with my HP Media Center purchased in 2007 with Vista pre-installed. Inside Vista I created the partition for XP (disk D and rebooted with the 'XP Pro SP2' inside. After selecting its correct partition for installing it copies all files on hard disk and it reboots in order to start its installation, upon rebooting and starting first time from hard disk, it says that there is an error in the system and stops. If I install only XP on the system it works correctly even though some newest hardware is not recognized. I had already made a dual boot two years ago with a 2007 XP Student Edition and it smoothly. If it is due to the XP version being too old that maybe cannot deal with the boot record created by Vista
Or perhaps such an old XP cannot recognize a boot hard disk that is not C:?
Is there a way to bypass this point (perhaps fixing the boot record) in order to continue correctly the installation?

I originally had Vista Business edition on my laptop and decided to dual boot with XP. So far I created a partition on the same drive (C: ) as Vista and installed XP on it. how do I choose between Vista and XP when my computer boots up? When I turn on my computer it boots straight into XP and doesn't show that menu where it gives me a choice of which OS I want to boot

After it finishes the initial installation and restarts it says to press any key to boot from the CD. I wait without pressing anything and than it says that there was an error reading the disk. If I remember correctly, after it restarts it goes strait into windows setup. This happens every time I try restarting, but I can get back into vista by putting the hard drive to boot first. View 2 Replies View RelatedMy younger sister was playing on the "Neopets" website. She loaded up a browser-based game called "Shenkuu River Rush". As I understand, to do this, she needed to download the "3D Life Player". The game worked fine for a while, but then started to run slow, so she restarted the computer. When she restarted, it still ran slow. She was also running the latest version of MSN/Windows Live Messenger. Finally, she loaded up the game and the computer pretty much froze (impossible to do anything, and showed no signs of resolving) so I came and shut it down manually.When I switched it on again, the computer went into the usual "We apologize for the incovenience, but Windows did not start successfully." screen. Thinking nothing of it, I selected "Start Windows Normally" and hit enter. The screen stayed on the Windows XP loading screen for a while, then flickered to a BSOD (I couldn't out what it was at this point) and restarted. This time, I selected "Last Known Good Configuration", and the exact same thing happened. I then tried running it in Safe Mode (both regular and command line)
The computer came with Windows XP loaded on it (I think it might've been Home Edition?), but I had a Windows XP Professional disk so I booted up from that. The "Windows Setup" screen comes up, and at the bottom of the screen, as is routine, the "Setup is loading files..." message is present. Just when all the files are seemingly loaded, and the message at the bottom of the screen flickers to "Setup is loading Windows.
When I start windows XP, I get the message (error loading DOCEOC 1681 )The specified module could not be loaded.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to fix my friend Emachine that he got about a year ago, it has a 80 gig hard drive, 512 ram. When I took a look at it I tried to boot it up and it started to load windows xp and then just stopped and started over again and kept reapting this process untill I shut down the computer. I continued to us fdisk and format at the dos promt to format the disk and then tried to load windows xp over again. It got almost all the way done then it went to this big blue screen saying the windows couldnt be loaded and that I shuld check if there is any new hardware..ect, and there is nothing new in the computer. I than figured I would try killdisk and a few other methods to totally clean the hard drive thinking there could be a virus deep in the MBR and not matter what I do I keep getting the same message over and over. I may be over looking something or could be just having a blond moment as it were but I have been working on this for the last three days and I am running out of idea's.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently found that my Games folder was empty. When I try to re-install the games from my XP Pro cd, I get the errors: "Setup cannot copy the file sol.hl." etc. If I cancel and try to continue setup, It just gives the same error from the next item.I tried to uninstall and reinstall the Accessories and Utilities folder and recieved the same errors. The cd is a Genuine Windows XP Professional Upgrade. It includes Service Pack 2. Version 2002. The cd is not scratched or smudged in any way and I can see the files on it when I browse the cd. I also checked my cd drive by installing two other programs from two different cds. It works fine.
There are several things that happened or I did to the computer before I lost the games but I dont want to get into the details if I dont have to (dont want to write a small novel). The most significant, I think is that I had to reactivate my copy of Windows, because I had removed my etherlink card (I only have dial-up here). Also I messed up some drivers and had to reinstall them. I'm not sure which caused the reactivation screen to pop up. When I reactivated, I couldn't connect to the internet and had to do it over the phone, so they gave me a different Product Key to use.I hope that information helps to explain my situation enough. I would just do a clean reinstall of XP, but am now afraid it wouldn't copy the files from the cd.
