Trying To Load On HD Partition With Vista Pre-loaded
Nov 2, 2007
I have just partitioned my hard drive on my computer running Windows Vista, renamed the partition 'X' and I wish to install Windows XP Professional.I have loaded the disk, got the Welcome screen up, clicked the green Install Windows' button and I get This programme is blocked due to incompatibility problems'. It quotes the Windows version on the equipment is more recent than the CD version. It recommends finding a solution on line.Once I get to the Windows site, I don't know what to look for.Should I have done more in setting up the partition (which is already in NTFS format.)I have to do this myself as I am not in a locality with ready help on hand.I am running a Compaq with AMD Athlon 64 X2 D C Processor with 2.87GB of memory.

I initially started with XP and created a separate partition for Vista, installing Vista on the other partition, Vista sees the (XP) Earlier version of windows. When I choose XP, I get the following error: NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt. If I repair the XP with fixmbr - I end up screwing up Vista. Then when I repair Vista, it end's screwing up XP

It all started when none of my folders would open or "mycomputer" or any "explorer.exe" related things. So I restarted the computer, and after restart the logon screen come on. I tryed to log in but all I got was the "Loadding your personal settings".Then nothing. So Ctrl-Alt-Del the consol comes up. I tried to run explorer.exe manuly but it just blinks on the screen and then disappear. It is almost like something is killing or not letting explorer.exe stay loaded.

Alright, I have this Toshiba Satellite P205-S6237 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed, and I just partitioned my Hardrive and installed Windows XP on the partition.Windows XP(Home Edition) works great! It was a successful clean install and I already have my computer setup so I can choose which OS to run at startup. When I get on the XP partition, I cannot get onto to the internet. I use a wireless adapter that is built in to the laptop to connect to my home internet router.I was told that I had to get some sort of driver to get my wireless to work on XP, but I've looked around for a long while now.

I recently installed XP on my HP laptop that came with Vista. On Vista my computer fan rarely gets loud and/or heats up (only when I'm performing several tasks). However, when XP just begins to boot--and I don't even do anything, the fan begins to spin really loudly and my laptop heats up and eventually shuts down due to overheating.I haven't updated any drivers yet for XP since I'm not too sure where I can find them or if they would do anything to solve this issue.

About 4 months ago I tried to make a partition on my HD to install XP SP2 on it, while running Vista Business, which I installed on the laptop (it originally had XP), but something screwed up while making the partition and Vista was erased from my laptop and XP was installed on both partitions. When I turn on my laptop a boot screen comes on to choose which partition to boot up. I've always chosen the larger partition, I've never tried booting the other partition, I'm scared it will screw something up. All of my files are on the bigger partition, the one I always use. But I want to know how to delete the other partition so that there is only one partition and I can use the space on the partition I don't use at all. I want to do this without deleting my files if possible.

Dell Dimension E520.The machine came with Vista but it doesn't work with any of the applications that we need. We just went out and dropped the wad of cash on Windows XP and resized the hard drive with the Vista Disk Management. When we boot into the WinXP cd, it loads all the drivers etc but when it gets to "Starting Windows XP" screen at the end of the driver loading (no graphics yet), it suddenly bluescreens and says to check for a virus or run a checkdisk. We tried this a number of times and its not working.Due to the fact that nothing is set yet for installation, the WinXP disk should _not_ be even yet touching the hard disk, just loading into RAM. The machine is new and has 2GB of RAM on it, more than enough for an XP install.Does anyone know what could be the issue? I am wondering if we have to find/install additional drivers at the initial XP disk loading, but I am not sure.

Have a friend with a really screwed up hard drive; need to reformat C: and do a clean Win XP reinstall. Am not familiar with the way HP sets up their computers with C: and D: partitions, the D: partition being the "recovery" partition. I first thought I could use that to restore the HD to what was there when the computer was purchased in 2005, but it appears that the only items in the recovery partition are the original application programs and drivers -- no Windows OS.
So, my first question is, have I missed/am not seeing that Windows IS on the recovery partition and that running the recovery program will wipe C: clean and reinstall everything INCLUDING Windows XP. . . or will it just reinstall the original applications and drivers, but leave everything else as is?
2nd question: If the recovery partition does not include Windows, will I encounter any problems if I reformat C: to wipe it clean and reinstall XP from a genuine MS Win XP CD, then use the recovery partition to reinstall the original applications and drivers?

I was just using my PC this weekend and i tried to combine the 3 partitions in my master/primary hdd with my parition magic 8.0. After partition magic was done on its job, pc rebooted and i cant load xp anymore. have tried removing small battery, reinstalling with recovery CD and still wont load xp. i was getting diffrent things on the screen. first was that my pc hung on me when "booting to CD:" came, did something and next i got was mbr error 2, then i got disk boot failure after playing around with the PC.by the way my pc had acronis too. i figure it has something to do with it. i tried my recovery cd 3 tiems and after finishing the reinstall i still cant boot. i tried to use an xp boot disk and found that all my files are still intact and havent been reformatted.

I have an old HP Pavilion (A300N) that I purchased at retail some years ago. It came pre-installed w/ XP and a recovery partition in order to re-load the machine. I've recently re-loaded from the recovery partition, but darn if there isn't just gigs of unwanted software on the drive that came along for the ride when I recovered. This is clearly an OEM install of XP, and there is a Windows Product Key stiker on the case of the machine.
Will the OEM product key work if I re-install XP from a retail installation CD? I would be re-installing on the same box, so same internal components, etc. Seems like this should work, but I'd like to get an opinion from the experts here before I invest the time. Having the old XP box available in a clean state is important to me for other backup and redundancy issues here at home.

I'm trying to make a dual boot system Vista/XP with my HP Media Center purchased in 2007 with Vista pre-installed. Inside Vista I created the partition for XP (disk D and rebooted with the 'XP Pro SP2' inside. After selecting its correct partition for installing it copies all files on hard disk and it reboots in order to start its installation, upon rebooting and starting first time from hard disk, it says that there is an error in the system and stops. If I install only XP on the system it works correctly even though some newest hardware is not recognized. I had already made a dual boot two years ago with a 2007 XP Student Edition and it smoothly. If it is due to the XP version being too old that maybe cannot deal with the boot record created by Vista
Or perhaps such an old XP cannot recognize a boot hard disk that is not C:?
Is there a way to bypass this point (perhaps fixing the boot record) in order to continue correctly the installation?
Thank you,
Al

First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?

So far I created a partition on the same drive (C: ) as Vista and installed XP on it. how do I choose between Vista and XP when my computer boots up? When I turn on my computer it boots straight into XP and doesn't show that menu where it gives me a choice of which OS I want to boot

I was dual booting XP and Vista but didn't want Vista anymore. So I got rid of Vista, and that's all said and done now. Problem is, the boot loader is still coming up telling me to choose between "Earlier Version of Windows" and "Windows Vista". How to I get rid of it without using Vista's boot manager?

I'm currently running Vista on a raid 0 array, and want to dual with XP. I have two partitions, one with vista and the other that I tried installing XP on. After it finishes the initial installation and restarts it says to press any key to boot from the CD. I wait without pressing anything and than it says that there was an error reading the disk. If I remember correctly, after it restarts it goes strait into windows setup. This happens every time I try restarting, but I can get back into vista by putting the hard drive to boot first. In vista I can see the other partition where XP was installed, and inside is just a folder titled WINDOWS and it seems like all the windows files are in there

I have my Windows format disc and I want to create another partition with it. I tried to create one, but it said something like "You have no more space to create another partition because you used up all your space on your Windows primary partition". See, when I reformatted my computer a while back I just created 1 partition for Windows and applied all the space onto that partition.
If there is a way I could remove some space off of my Windows primary partition and create another partition with the space I removed. I want to do this so I can put general things in my other partition such as documents, music, etc. and just leave the other partition for Windows and programs.

I bought a new computer. It appears to have been partitioned into a NTFS format and FAT32 format. The default drive for my documents & my pictures etc is the NTFS which I have been using happily. It is Media Centre Edition so I also have a few large files (>4GB) - though I dont keep them long term.NTFS partition has fulled up - but I cant move my large files to other partition to free up space
I've done a little bit of reading but my question is "Should I reformat the FAT32 to make it more of use to me?".I cant really see the need arising to access older OS files, except .JPG's (photo's I had on my old Windows ME Comp) or "Should I move all my smaller files (documents and photo's) to the FAT32 partition and use the NTFS drive for the bigger files?"

Now I am having multiple new problems. I want to completely erase the hard drive and install a new version of XP Home, not Pro. At the beginning of the installation process, it gathers system info. Immediately it responds with "no valid system partition" and the only option is to exit from the process. How can I get past this to complete the installation?
