this is part2 of my dilemmas - after finally getting my recognise the rest of 250gb hdd - not it wants to treat them as 2 separate drives - is there anyway of joining them together so I have 1 drive
Now I cannot boot without the 120GB plugged in (tried unplugging the drive and booting and it said the it was Unable to boot from disk or something). I eventually deleted the partition on the old drive in setup and then canceled setup, and I still couldn't boot. So I reinstalled winXP on the old drive and now it boots fine. Of course what I have to do is reinstall XP with the drive unplugged, but do I have to completely redo everything, or can I somehow reinstall without starting from scratch? I've tried using the setup disk in windows with the drive unplugged (I know it isn't safe to unplug drives with the computer running but I had run out of ideas), but it said that it couldn't reinstall windows because there was no valid System Partition (which is on the other drive.
I recently bought a new HDD because the old one appears ready to crash (clicking sound). My DVD-Rom is also dead, so I booted from the old hard drive & installed a fresh OS (Windows XP) on the new drive. However, I cannot boot from the new drive alone, because the 'system volume' is Drive C: (old drive) & 'boot volume' is Drive G: (new drive). How can I fix this? I don't mind reinstalling the OS, but I cannot boot from a CD & I don't know how long the old drive will last
I have a Windows XP home setup on a pentium IV system. I have two hard disks partitioned to give 3 partitions on one and two on the other. Quite often when I start windows it appears to boot normally but in Explorer I can only see the home partition. Explorer runs very slowly and crashes. I've checked for viruses, run adaware and spybot but can't fix it. I have AVG and sygate personal fire wall running.
I recently setup my new computer and during the XP setup I thought I had partitioned my Hard drive so I had 3 of them,I did two 100gb and the 3rd with the remaining. In my computer it shows my main one C:/ and the other D:/.as well, nothing. Its just there, properties says 0 bytes. How can I get the most out of my hard drive, and get the other partitions running? I want to be able to store all of my music on one, and files on the other and have the 3rd for misc files.
For some months I've had a problem with "ficticious" drives, they resulted from much changing around of partitions when I installed an extra hard drive.Using XP I have two 80 gig hard drives each split into two partitions. HD0 is C: and E:, HD1 is F: and S:, they are all ntfs, there is no spare disk space. There used to be other partitions for Fedora Core 4 but I've given up on that.A trivial problem is that exporer tells that I have logical disc Y: at a location that is unavailable, where do I find and elminate this entry. No other software seems to see this drive.A more irritating problem is that partition Work (E:) also appears as partition Work (X:). E: and X: are identical, X: is simply E: by another name, the partition only exists once.
I have just changed from a domain to a workgroup and now I can not log on. I wanted to share a library on my stationary PC with my wireless connected laptop. After having established a new workgroup, confirming via my password and restarting the laptop, I can't use the password anymore...What happened and what do i do to get reconnected?
i have 7 parts of iso files, i want to join them These files are compressed/zipped by .rar So what i have to do now?i tried HJSPLIT but i cant make it So please tell me how i join all these files into 1 iso
I am working on a Dell Inspiron 9100 Laptop, Win XP Pro. It was joined to a domain for a couple years. It has gone to a new home (same owner tho) and we wanted to disjoin the domain and join a workgroup. On the reboot, the machine won't accept any login or passwords that used to work I tried to 'test' the local login before I originally dis-joined the domain but the domain admin had disabled local logins. I think that is where I went wrong and I know it's my fault and now I just want to get to the 'My Documents' folder so I moved the laptop drive over to a desktop (using an adapter) and I can 'see' the drive in BIOS and it is detected in Windows but the drive has no drive letter
I currently look after a network of 20 computers, some running windows 7 and most running XP sp3 (32+64bit) Mine is 32bit. I joined my computer to the domain after a fresh install of XP. Here are where the problems started. After about 15 minutes I lost internet connection. About 20 minutes later the computer could not open or close any programs without killing the process. Then I lost network connection and was left with only the task manager running and no explorer open. I managed to install SP3 after downloading it on a seperate computer and running it on a disk.
I am having a challenge making a Windows XP workstation part of a Small Business Server 2003 domain; both are relatively fresh OS installs. The WinXP box was placed on line before the SBS and has been running through (2 NICs) the SBS to the internet as a "Workgroup:" computer. Now that I am ready to join the WinXP to the SBS as a "Domain:" computer I find a terrific challenThe first indication of a challenge came when the SBS <http://<sbs2003ServerName>/connectcomputer> ran into errors. It would place itself on the workstation with the user indent, "__sbs_netsetup__",
When I try to join a domain with a XP Pro client to a Windows 2K3 server and after going through Control Panel>System and entering the domain name and my Adminstrator credentials, I get "The following error occured when attempting to join the domain "computerlab.net": The account specified for the service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process."The Administrator account for both server and client is identical if that affects it all? I seem to be very close to success except for this error message.
I am trying to join an imaged workstation to a W2k3 domain and am receiving "Unknown user name or bad password". I know the account and password are good because I used the same info to join a server to the domain without a problem. Also when I change the workgroup name it doesn't ask for a username and password.
I will like to create a command prompt or ms-dos batch file for joining domain. How do I go about creating it? The purpose of creating this batch file is that it is useful for joining domain without restarting the PC.
This is my first post on this site, and I just want you guys to know that I tried my best before making this post, but I just can't seem to solve this problem. We have a domain with all workstations running Windows XP. The server is Windows 2000 Server. A new computer running Windows XP x64 Edition is trying to connect to the domain but is getting the following error. The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "domain_name";he account is not authorized to log in from this station.I tried the following settings in local security settings
I have a computer that has been running XP pro for a long time. I would like to join it to a domain, but have found out by experience that my "domain user" and my "workgroup user" are two completely different people. Can I use the file and settings transfer wizard to transfer my "workgroup user" settings to my "domain user" settings and then delete my "workgroup user?" Are there any security concerns (e.g. run as administrator) that I need to be aware of
I have tried without success to delete a folder from my separate hard drive which I beleive is corrupted in some way. I have copied it elsewhere and it runs fine. I have deleted all the individual files (jpgs) and the details show no files remaining. However I get an error message which tells me I cannot delete the folder as the the directory is not empty. I have tried chdsk and to show hidden files with the Tools command but without success. Any ideas? The folder seems to make my hard drive whir and run very slowly hence my desire to get rid of it. I am running Windows XP with SP2 but mt computer skills are limited!
I have a computer that Im trying to fix, the only way to input to the computer at this point and time is the hard drives. I have a working computer obviously. So could I take the hard drive out of the broken computer, give it two partitions, copy the windows install to one partition, start the the install in the broken computer from that partition and install that onto the second partition? Ive heard of this being down but I am no expert.
Without creating a separate user account, Is there a way to configure XP to ask for a password everytime before something gets installed? My 7 year old daughter is starting to use the computer more and more and I do not want her accidently installing anything from the web.
I am running win xp the computer is connected to a network but not a server all logons are made to a local computer there are two admins on the computer me and my dad. He insists on having admin rights but with admin rights he can reset my password without knowing it even though we are apart of the same group so when I go away he removes my password and goes through my files and stuff. Can I make separate groups or something to stop him being able to remove my password.
I seem to have three separate Trojan viruses running in my computer! I was told that I need a new hard drive to get rid of these viruses. Is this true? Is there any other way to get rid of this problem?
I would like read an online manual "cover to cover" to find what I am looking for.Which brings me to my current problem. I want to use IIS (Internet Information Services). Are there any directions anywhere? The first thing I wanted to do was set up three separate virtual directories. Searched Microsoft web site for "virtual", "directory", "virtual directory", and "IIS".
I was going to upgrade my wifes Gateway to w2000 as a surprise, kept getting NTDETECT failed error. Before I could work it out or find a solution, she caught me. Lesson learned, Dont mess with wifes computer when she is not here. replaced ME on her computer and reinstalled all of the backups I had made before I had this brilliant Idea. Problem, I have a $200 system that I am dying to install on something. I have a dual hd each 40g and I have nothing on the Drive D. I have XP home on C: drive. I would like to install this W2000 on the D Drive. can someone tell me Is there a way to reformat Just D: drive and install w2000 on it without messing up C: drive. and then being able to pick which OS I want to boot to? This is by the way a Full system CD.
I'm trying to define an environment variable, CLASSPATH, to link to all the .jar files in a certain folder, C:cp. This folder contains 16 different .jar files. CLASSPATH needs to look like: file1.jar;file2.jar;etc Does anyone know a way to separate multiple entries with a semicolon automatically, rather than entering each .jar file? Perhaps using a wildcard (*) of sorts?
I have setup a wireless network between two computers in my office and have installed some software that will automatically backup folders on each of the two computers. It work by backing up certain folders on computer 1 to the hard disk on computer 2 and vice versa.I also have a program installed on both computers that uses the data on computer 1.simplify the process of locating the data on my network I have created virtual drives using the Map Network Drives function in Windows. However; if I start up my computer and open these programs - they can not find the drives, I have to open My Computer first and double click on the drives before the programs will read from them. I am guessing that for some reason Windows is not connecting to these drives, even though I have set them to "reconnect at logon".
I recently installed the program registery fix and i believe it has caused my Cd and DVD drives or the paths to these drives to be deleted from windows as they do not show up in my computer. I have tried the options in the following list but none of them have helped me, i'm really stuck but i can't fix the problem. - I've tried deleting the upper and lower filters but they are not in the selected registery. - I've tried a system restore but i can't go back to a previous point before the registery fix install. - I've tried unplugging the leads and restaring but this didn't help. - I've tried microsoft guided help but it couldn't find the upper and lower filters. - i beleive they are still listed in my bios but don't know exactly what i'm looking for when in bios. I don't know where to go from here, i also run alcohol 120% a virtual drive software and the registery fix has had no affected on these drives but i'm wondering if this maybe why the program registery fix deleted my actual drives becasue of the virtual drives and replaced the paths to my actual drives but i'm not sure it's just a guess. I've deleted the virtual drives and tried the steps above but i've had no luck.
My operating system is Windows XP Pro. As of yesterday all was fine, I even burned a DVD. Today "My Computer" isn't even showing my DVD/CD recorder, only showing Drive A: 3.5 Floppy. It started when I downloaded (I think) WindowsBlinds, just wanted to do some color changes. Well when I installed it, Norton came up with a Trojan. Norton Quarantined or deleted it and said no more further actions required. The install finished (windowblinds) and I tried a couple different skins and decided to uninstall it. Uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller
I am using Windows XP Professional SP2 on an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe MB. I have 5 internal HDD's and 2 external USB drives, I also have 2 DVD R/RW +- Dual Density drives, a Zip 250 and an Orb 2GB drive. So far this year I have had to reinstall my Windows like 8 times and done about 4 Windows repairs! Each time I seem to get 4 extra removable drives added to my system. In Disk Manager they are listed as "Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device", I have changed Device Usage to Do Not use this device (disable) and also I have uninstalled each device. Unfortunately, each time I restart the computer, they come back, shifting other drives to another drive letter.
I initially started with XP and created a separate partition for Vista, installing Vista on the other partition, Vista sees the (XP) Earlier version of windows. When I choose XP, I get the following error: NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt. If I repair the XP with fixmbr - I end up screwing up Vista. Then when I repair Vista, it end's screwing up XP
