After i installed encarta, a few days later i kept geting this message whenever i opened IE: no big deal eh? ill just use FF. I went to ff and it worked fine. Then i went to check for some files in my HD i got it again. I restarted. I clicked search to find a few files of encarta to try to help it, then when i opened search i got it again. It happenes whenever i open something from startmenu (not everything though) I went to uninstall encarta and i STILL got the message. I ran a reg cleaner, took its DLLS out but i still get the freakin message. Its driving me crazy because i JUST got finished installing everything i needed.
i know ive been told to go to the encarta, but they dont seem to give answers within the day that you ask So I have one last simple question that somebody in here has already proven to me, they know somewhat abou In Encarta, there is a feature that I have heard of (but not seen on the version i JUST bought). Its some sort of Curriculum guide. I was told taht it would be in Encarta 2006 Premium, but so far I have not been able to find it Could someone quikly point it out to me?
ok, so you've given me the link to encarta, but can you tell me if the program includes all the features i previously described, and tell me why they have a new encarta version every few years? Why would you need to have a new encarta version if it just gets updated from the web?
I installed Norton's 360 now my pages don't open fully, I have to manually maximize them. I know there is a setting somewhere to make this right but can't remember where it is.
I decided to put my old hard disk (the one from the dim8400) and that contains already a windows, drivers, my folders,...into the dim xps gen3 when I started the dim xps gen3, I can go to my windows but I connot use neither the mouse nor the keybord (but the keyboard is fine when I access to the bios) I thought it s a problem of drivers but I just have the drivers and utilities cd from the dim 8400 pc before making any attempt
I just re-installed IE and since then have been getting the"Open File: Security Warning" messages for most programs.I try to run (local ones, NOT downloads).I did disable this before, but have forgotten how to. Googling for the answer only came up with how to disable this for files on a network (by adding to zone) and when downloading files in IE. Could anyone tell me where in the registry this can be disabled? Also, I have Home Edition, so no access to gpedit.msc
I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).
When I open my documents, it assigns all my text files to open in Word Pad. I would like it to open assinging all my files as Microsoft Word files. How can I change this?
when ever i start any video application it shows that something has gone wrong and prog is to be closed, and pror closes everything on desktop closes and disappear only to reappear again after some time.
I've installed the new drive, formatted it two partitions, and installed my XP on the new drive. The old drive is still installed, and I can select which drive I am booting off of. Boot off the old drive, I'm on my old PC. Boot off the new one, I'm on the new.Only one of the XPs are active at a time. The other says it must be activated. So, at this point, I boot to the old, and (with this OS activated)run the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. I specify that I am saving the data on one of the drives in the PC. It runs and says it's successful. Then I boot off the new drive and (now with THIS OS activated) when I point the FAST to the directory where I saved the files, the wizard says there's no files there to load. I can see .dat files in the directory, but the wizard can't.
My browsers, particularly IE (6) dont always respond when I try to open them. With IE about half the time when I click the icon nothing happens. If a then check task manager IE is indeed running and taking up about 14K of memory, but it never opens. If I try opening it again another instance will just open under task manager and nothing will show up. Now if I end all the IE processes in there and then start IE again it'll be fine. But I need to get this fixed.
i can't open my desktop folders including shortcuts..when I go to start, i can only open recenlty used programs but not my documents, my computer, control panel & all the tabs on the right field...also when I close a program, the window display still remains on the desktop.by left clicking the current program window i'm using and dragging it around, i can sort of erase the previously used windows.i can only correct this by restarting xp.do i have a virus? pls give me step by step guide to fix this.
I was able to open the windows it self but the problem is i can't open any program most of the time. i did virus scan system mechanic thingy but still it wont let me open a program. but 1 suspicious thing ive noticed is that is happening when im turing the internet on. Inspiron 530 with 4 gb mem quadcore processor, belkin n adapter wondows xp.
Why can't I get XP to open every folder using the "Details" option? I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. Seems like a simple thing, but I can't get XP to understand that's what I want.
Hi, I am having a weird problem. I cannot change what programs I use by defualt to open windows files. It does not matter whether I right click on a certain file and choose open with or if I use the tools option in the folder menu. This is what happens. I want to open a .jpg file with picassa photo viewer. I right click the .jpg file and choose open with. I then click browse to locate the .exe file that will open it. Well once I click it I get sent back to the open with window and nothing has changed. The .jpg file will not open with any program that can open it and it will not add the .exe file into the window. This is a bit frustrating as I cannot change what opens certain windows files by default. This goes for any type of file I try to open with any program.
Whenever double click a disk drive or even right click and, click open or ,explore. A dialogue box appears saying open with choose program this happened after i deleted the fppg1.exe which was reported a virus by avast i followed the instructions on http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt.local-disk.html above website but of no use.
Since I can "eject" the cd through right-clicking on the drive in my computer, i was wondering if there is an "open" feature, since my new case has drive cover, like the example below:[img]http://images1.chiefvalue.com/productimage/11-212-031-04.jpgp/img]since i have an old DVD drive the button is place differently from the button placed on the case, so i'm thinking of alternatives ways in opening the drive or if there's an easier way to approach this.what do all the function keys mean anyway? (F1-F12)
Tonight I tried opening a chm file and it failed, with that error message. This happens for any chm file I have tried. I don't know when this broke, I know I used to be able to open chm files with no trouble but I can't pinpoint the last time it worked.I've searched around and found some references to this, but no solution -the only relevant MSKB is for Win98. I tried regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx, deleting the hh.dat files, clearing IE's file cache; nothing has helped. I haven't made any significant recent changed to the system that I can think of.
When I'm in "my computer", then select a hard disk (C: or D: ), it comes up with "open with", every time.At first I thought i might have changed some thing with the folder setting, so reset that but still it asks open with.
I have a mapped drive on the network and when I access if from the My Computer window I get the Open With window asking me what program to use. But if I right click it and choose explorer then it opens.
Every file I try to go to, for instance I tried to go to system restore and it pulls up the open with screen. Everything I try to click on it will ask me which program to use. I can't even get on the internet accurately.
Whenever I try to run programs such as Internet Explorer or Microsoft Word I get a OPEN WITH dialog box asking me to choose which of the recommended programs I want to use. Currently they are Internet Explorer or Microsoft Word. When I click on Internet Explorer, IE momentarily open then closes and another dialog box open. asking me if I want to run c:programs filesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe. When I click on RUN another dialog box open asking me if I want to run Windows Vista SE Build. If I click on RUN I return to the OPEN WITH dialog box and starts the cycle over again. When I tried to run PROGRAM UPDATES in the CONTROL PANEL, I got a message about not being able to find RUNDLL32.EXE. Thinking I had a corrupted file, I copied a good RUNDLL32.EXE from my primary machine. No change after copying the file.I've run Norton AV and found no viruses. Interesting in that running Norton's did not initiate the OPEN WITH dialog box.
My son had a virus which was eliminated using antivirus software. Now he can't open anything without a "open this file using this extension" and a list is given. Even when I try a CMD in DOS it still prompts to open this file with. Is there anything I can do short of a fdisk and reformat?
Ive installed xp pro and formatted my hard drive after i had a nasty virus which basicly stopped my computer from booting. However for some reason it seems like ex pro hasnt picked up any of my drivers at all, like i have no sound no internet. IcrediMail XE, it's half way installed and stuck there, hasn't moved in the last hour, so I cannot uninstall it at Ad or Remove. How I got it in the first place I do not remember,
I've had some problems with IE crashing. I have Windows xp with sp2 installed. I went through the error report and most contain a problem with mshtml.dll. I got the windows web site and it said that there is some problem with sp2 in this case and they have a hot fix. But it looks like I would have to pay $99 bucks to contact microsoft and get it.
I have a hp pavilion a335w home pc, O/S Windows xp home with serv pack 1. This was pre installed when purchased. Problem: in the middle of using mcafee removal tool my system crashed when it rebooted I got this messege: windows could not start because the following file missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem.
