Whenever double click a disk drive or even right click and, click open or ,explore. A dialogue box appears saying open with choose program this happened after i deleted the fppg1.exe which was reported a virus by avast i followed the instructions on http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt.local-disk.html above website but of no use.
Since I can "eject" the cd through right-clicking on the drive in my computer, i was wondering if there is an "open" feature, since my new case has drive cover, like the example below:[img]http://images1.chiefvalue.com/productimage/11-212-031-04.jpgp/img]since i have an old DVD drive the button is place differently from the button placed on the case, so i'm thinking of alternatives ways in opening the drive or if there's an easier way to approach this.what do all the function keys mean anyway? I can open a website ok but if I need to open a second website the first one no longer appears accessible on the task bar. The only way I can get back to website #1 is by using the back arrow. Also if I close the second website the first one closes at the same time. I frequently need to go between two or more websites when working online and not having the link available is inconvenient at best. How can I set my computer so that all open websites will appear on the taskbar?

I do not get an error message at all. However, I checked in the Task Manager under Processes and it says that iTunes is now running.

In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy browsers, particularly IE (6) dont always respond when I try to open them. With IE about half the time when I click the icon nothing happens. If a then check task manager IE is indeed running and taking up about 14K of memory, but it never opens. If I try opening it again another instance will just open under task manager and nothing will show up. Now if I end all the IE processes in there and then start IE again it'll be fine. But I need to get this fixed.

Dunno how the hell I had a virus on my ext HDD in the first place. Now, when i try and access by ext HDD by double clicking its icon in "My Computer", I get the "Open With..." dialogue box. I can only browse my files by right-clicking and selecting "Explore".. Everything seems normal on the disk.

It does not matter whether I right click on a certain file and choose open with or if I use the tools option in the folder menu. This is what happens. I want to open a .jpg file with picassa photo viewer. I right click the .jpg file and choose open with. I then click browse to locate the .exe file that will open it. Well once I click it I get sent back to the open with window and nothing has changed. The .jpg file will not open with any program that can open it and it will not add the .exe file into the window. This is a bit frustrating as I cannot change what opens certain windows files by default. This goes for any type of file I try to open with any program.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was going to post this on the software forum, but since there seems to be no problem with the software (WinZip) I decided to place it in here.Everytime I attempt to open my 'Unzipped' folder in My Documents (the folder every file extracted from Zip files [using WinZip] goes to on my computer) it asks me to format my C: drive. I tried to format it, and I got this error: Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or any other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of this drive. Then try formatting again.I closed all my open windows and such and tried again. I still get the same error. I really don't want to format my disks to get into the Unzipped folder (which would be pointless anyway, since formatting erases all your files, and those are what I'm trying to get back) and nothing else seems to be working.
On mouseover Windows tells me the folder is empty, and when I view its properties it's 'read-only', no matter how many times I try and keep it from being so. I've tried deleting the folder (always getting the message that the directory is NOT empty), moving the folder into another folder, and uninstalling WinZip. NONE of this works, and I really want my files back. Is there any way you can help?
I'm having a minor problem with my 'my computer'.. In the my computer window, when i double click on any diskdrive, the diskdrive window opens in a altogether new window(previously it used to open in the same window). I did something in folder options(I dont know what i exactly i did) and from then its behaving like this. But when i open any folder in the disk drive window,it opens in d same window.So the problem is only with the 'My computer' window.

View 7 Replies View RelatedA week after updating to most current Windows SP1critical updates (its only change I can think of) I happen to notice that I cannot run a disk error check, I am told that its a NTFS file system and Win cannot open volume for check. Also when I start computer I have to log on with my password every. I have tried to eliminate the password requirement to no avail. I cannot return to pre-update status with System Restore because its been a week and there is too much new data in the system. This is a free standing desktop PC. Can anyone help with these two things? I hope so as I do my error check regularly and find it frustrating to have to log on every time I restart .

I don't know when this broke, I know I used to be able to open chm files with no trouble but I can't pinpoint the last time it worked.I've searched around and found some references to this, but no solution -the only relevant MSKB is for Win98. I tried regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx, deleting the hh.dat files, clearing IE's file cache; nothing has helped. I haven't made any significant recent changed to the system that I can think of.
