I keep trying to open iTunes, but when the little "sand-timer" appears next to the mouse as if it's about to open, nothing happens and the sand-timer goes away. I do not get an error message at all. However, I checked in the Task Manager under Processes and it says that iTunes is now running.

My husbands PC won't boot.the welcome (but without the welcome messege) and then the following error occurs"The Application failed to initialize properly (0x0000142) click OK to terminate program"We have no idea what this could be (the only recent changes made to the PC is a wireless connection, which was set up almost 2 weeks ago, so i am thinking that this isn't connected to the problem now?)....or how it has happened. I can open a website ok but if I need to open a second website the first one no longer appears accessible on the task bar. The only way I can get back to website #1 is by using the back arrow. Also if I close the second website the first one closes at the same time. I frequently need to go between two or more websites when working online and not having the link available is inconvenient at best. How can I set my computer so that all open websites will appear on the taskbar?
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen I transfer my digital images from my camera to my PC (XP Serv.. pack 2) I use the built in transfer program which appears to be titled Microsoft Scanner and Camera wizard. It worked well for awhile.Is there a program setup key where I can check settings for the software? I used to be able to simply type in new file name and it would put the new folder in "My Picture folder" not anymore, have to a lot manually.The pgm also seems to reproduce the pics each time I click a photo change it etc, and I end up with up to 10x the number of pics all duplicates!. this is hard to explain to a fairly new user with digital cameras.

The past week or two it seems that the computer locks up, the Task Manager shows the CPU running at 100%. It allows some activity all be it slow & shutting down all programs (which are not locked up) does not stop the activity - including disconnecting the internet. Have run Norton scan, Spybot S&D and Adaware with nothing of significance found. Ran HiJackThis and found some startup stuff and stopped them from running but I don't know enough about the programs that are running to remove them.
Last time I booted I had to force a shutdown after waiting for 15 minutes. Next reboot took 22 minutes for the CPU to back off of 100%. I started Task Mgr very early into the boot, just before the icons started to appear and it showed 33 processes running. I watched as 14 more started up all while the CPU was steady at 100% usage. Then at 5 minutes after booting the processor dropped to 50% bounced around for a minute then went back to 100%. There was some activity through the modem (cable) but not very much. I unplugged the modem power. I shut down Skype, MSN Messenger and MS Defender and about a minute later the CPU dropped to 27%. Nothing of what I shut down appeared to alter anything.

View 2 Replies View Relatedit happened was my "mcafee security center" ( anti virus software ran out ) so I un-installed it then re-installed it hoping it would work again however it never as the yearly expire date was up had to renew it but i choose not to and downloaded "avg anti virus ,avg anti spyware , spybot s&d , ad-aware "(Free software) instead i ran all scans from them scans show nothing found but i noticed looking at "cursor" the hourglass/egg-timer was flashing/blinking on and off all the time and still does to this day flash's/blinks 2-3 times every second never stops i also noticed sometimes i can not access stuff from PC say i click on a icon on desktop nothing happens doesn't open it right click on it gives options to open ectHowever they wont work , even going to start menu click something nothing will open like any program or anything u want to run however this has only happened a few times most of the time things seem to be working normal apart from the flashing hourglass next to cursor it wont stop flashing from the moment you start using PC

So I got to playing around with it, and wound up setting it to open with wordpad so I could try and delete it. If not it will struck there until I click "OK".Not only that whenever I run any software program the "Run As" dialogue box will appear and I have to click "OK" in order for the program to run.Some of the programs are affected as it cannot run properly.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI picked up some crappy malware called ?Windows Police? last night while I was surfing for player info for my fantasy football league. I immediately ran a scan using AVG, but in my impatience and worry over getting this infection I googled for information and found instructions at this web site. So I mistakenly tried to follow them. Unfortunately I must have made an error in there somewhere because now I?m having problems opening program files. AVG scrubbed the virus but now I cannot open program files. Either the program cannot be found or I get the ?Open With? pop up menu. I?ve tried to run the WMI diagnostic but can?t get that to work either. Is this fixable?

Some of the programs are fine, but the vast majority, when i try to open them, come up with an error message telling me it has encountered a problem and needs to close. One of my co-workers does not have the option to choose Excel when she right clicks on text (.txt) files and selects Open With. I've already tried selecting Choose Program and navigating to excel.exe. That does not add it. Other users have the option. These text files are already formatted in a way that will open in Excel with everything in columns without going through the wizard. I don't have any problems editing the registry if that is required as long as I have detailed instructions.

This happens only in my computer - opening it from within an app, or from the drop down list of the address bar works fine. Now, 'explorer.exe' is not in the list, and also since the "always use the selected program..." option is grayed out, it doesn't help to manually navigate to explorer.exe & select it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem opening almost any program on my computer after a crash during shutdown (just after a Windows update). When I double-click the icon it looks as if it is loading and nothing ever opens. If I look in task manager ,however, firefox.exe or whatever program I tried running is running, but using 50% the CPU resources and a window never opens. Chkdsk ran after the crash and I tried sfc /scannow and it did get ie8 to open up, but it freezes with 50% of the CPU usage, according to task manager, and still does not allow browsing. Even after uninstalling and re-installing Firefox I still can't get it to open.I tried the following experiment Open Firefox, then IE8, each use 50% of CPU resources, but neither allows browsing (Firefox does not even open a window).

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy caps lock on my keyboard works in complete reverse. with the "caps lock" on all of the letters are in small caps and when it is off all of the letters are in large caps. also my shift keys do not work. With the caps lock on the periods and commas give me "larger than" and "smaller than". the only way to get a period is to go to the "numeric keyboard. also I can"t reset the cursor when I try to go back to an earlier place it highlights the words in my folders I am unable to choose only one file When I click on a file it highlights every file from the beginning of the list to the one I have chosen.

When I click the icon, it starts to open the website, but then locks & will not open. I have a program that should remember where I want it to open but doesn't, and I'm trying to figure out how to reset Windows' memory of this so I can retrain it, as it were.
