View 14 Replies View RelatedEvery time I right click on a file and chose open with then choose program it always, with out fail, no matter what the extension, assumes I mean notepad.exe. AVIs to Zip files get Notepad. I suspect a registry entry but I don't know where to look and Google failed to find anything close to what i was looking for. The problem first occurred with my HOSTS file. I typed the c:windowssystem32driversetchosts into my run and instead of the Choose program it immediately opened in notepad, convenient in that instances but not the majority of the time...
I have checked for Spyware (clean), run AVG (clean), and I am very reluctant to reinstall windows, again. Last time they tried to force me to purchase a new copy of windows pro after installing it and activating it on the SAME system (not this computer) for the third time. They wanted to know when/where/ and what model I purchased.
when ever i start any video application it shows that something has gone wrong and prog is to be closed, and pror closes everything on desktop closes and disappear only to reappear again after some time.

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen I try right-clicking on a file in Windows Explorer (or PowerDesk Pro), I get an hourglass, but the right-click menu never comes up and the program freezes (both Explorer and PowerDesk). Actually the very same thing happens if I "select" a file and try to delete the file by pressing the "Delete" key. And the problem occurs when I try to delete a file using the menu (Edit --> Cut). This is really frustrating, to say the least.
On the start menu, pressing All Programs and then trying to right click on a program to send to desktop, nothing appears or nothing happens at all
Any help would be appreciated

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have this so called virus/worm "VBS/Solow-B" or FS6519.dll.vbs and I managed to delete it by searching thru the net on how to manually delete this worm. Unfortunately after deleting this I can't open my Drive C using double click unless I used right click then choose open then it will open. Here is the error message that came up. The window name is "Windows Script Host" the message is Can not find script file "C:FS6519.dll.vbs". How do I fix this so that I can use the double click again to open my Drive C:.
BTW I know this is too much too ask but how can I clean/remove the virus/worm on my flash drive? I think I got the virus from other pc using my flash drive then infected my other pc.
I can't open my Local Drive thru double click. I think its a malware or something but can anyone of you guys teach me how to get rid of it. My anti-virus and anti-spyware can't seem to detect it.
This Windows Script Host message pop-ups everytime I double click on Drive C: Can not find script file "C:LibraryBoys6519.dll.vbs".
Every once in a while my pc acts really nutty. What happens is that I'll go to open a program (lets say Nero Burning Rom) and on a single double click Nero will open up 70+ times. Furthermore, it makes mostly all of my programs act up when this starts happening. For example, when I click the arrow in the system tray it expands and collapses tons of times before it stops. If I open Firefox my homepage sort of half loads over and over and won't stop. MSN Messenger opens up then freaks out when I put the pointer in its window (this happens in the above Firefox example too). All of this activity makes the pc unusable until it all stops. Speaking of when it stops, it does't stop with a restart, it just stops mid session. I thought it could be a mouse problem because the trackball I use is pretty ancient and I figured it just might have just petered out finally, but then I tried another mouse that I found laying around and it did the same things. One other thing I've noticed it (the trackball) doing is when it's not being used the pointer slowly crawls towards the top of the screen. I've run my anti-virus and all three of my spyware programs and none of them find anything out of the ordinary. So what could be causing this? I'm starting to think it might be my mouse port, but how would I find this out?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever i double click a drive (besides the one with windows installed on it) windows asks me what program i want to use to open the file. It does not let me select the box "always use this program to open files like this" so i cannot select explorer and save that setting. I've been through the file associations and it has "open" set as default. Tried to change this to "explore" but that didn't work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently cleaned up a friend's very infected machine. The jury is still out as to how much damage was done (specifically to the registry), but something weird is going on. When I right click the C drive in My Computer, the EZ CD Creator 5 install program starts executing. I didn't see a autorun.inf file or on the drive which is the only thing I can think of. Any ideas?
Figured I'd add some more info. I've installed a second drive to take backups to. Backup of 12G of data to the drive while the OS was up took 1.5 hours, took much less from an emergency disk, weird. XP SP2 256K memory. I'm also getting a windowformsparkingwindow popup on a shutdown. Reasonably sure this is due to HP stuff on the machine. Java is busted up but I wanted to start getting the backups going before uninstalling that and reinstalling.
Hello!
Another problem i am having. When i click on the "run", "search" or the "help and support" links in my windows xp start menu it tries to create a shortcut! This also happens when i click on internet explorer on my desktop. Any ideas why?!
Thanks
When you double click a Drive or program it loads or starts, a mouse right click tells me that it will open search only, and that is what it does. Open and explore is farther down the list and search is on top. In my 25+ years I've never seen this. Thanks, John
3 yr old Gateway 506GR, running Windows XP Home SP3, 200GB H.D., 2GB ram,
My husbands PC won't boot.the welcome (but without the welcome messege) and then the following error occurs"The Application failed to initialize properly (0x0000142) click OK to terminate program"We have no idea what this could be (the only recent changes made to the PC is a wireless connection, which was set up almost 2 weeks ago, so i am thinking that this isn't connected to the problem now?)....or how it has happened. My husband has tried to boot in safe mode and the welcome screen appears (again without welcome messege) and goes no further.

Any suggestions?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI double-click and get "search" instead of "open"--only when I click a disk, like Hard Drive C: or Floppy A: or CD F: and so on. It didn't used to do this, so I must've inadvertently changed some setting somewhere,
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a system that has Windows XP Home on it and when I try to install a spyware removal or anti-virus program that I have downloaded from the internet to the desktop or program files folder, it will not open up when I double-click on it or if I right-click and select OPEN. However, if I right-click the program icon and click on RUN AS, it brings up a gray window asking for a user name and password to gain access to the program. It says something about security that prevents unauthorized installation of viruses and the like.
