Hello!
Another problem i am having. When i click on the "run", "search" or the "help and support" links in my windows xp start menu it tries to create a shortcut! This also happens when i click on internet explorer on my desktop. Any ideas why?!

I can't access the "Run" command from the start menu. When I click on it windows brings up a message box saying "Windows can not create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?" Even if I click yes, the shortcut doesn't do anything. I can still access the run command by using the windows button + r on the keyboard. This affects the "Search" and "Help & Support" commands too.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI tried to create a shortcut of an email internet link onto my desktop and all I got was a small rectangular white box. Try as I might, I could not remove it. The box is adjustable and can be made to cover the entire desktop area behind the icons but over the current desktop theme. In my attempts to delete it I have ended up with a white box about an inch wide from the top to the bottom on the left side of the screen. I cannot reduce the size any further but as I said, I can drag the right margin all the way across the entire screen.

Have noticed the internet explorer is now displaying it's wrong icon on my program shortcuts [That is = Start = Programs = say - Legacy Family Tree = and there they are showing as a white back ground with small dots coloured, Red , blue and green? When try to open any program via the normal shortcuts, I see an error message reading Application Not Found. In order to use anything, I must go find the program on my hard drive and then choose the program responsible for running that program. I've tried creating new shortcuts, but to no avail. How can I get back to normal? I'm running Windows XP.

View 8 Replies View Relatedwhen I try right-clicking on a file in Windows Explorer (or PowerDesk Pro), I get an hourglass, but the right-click menu never comes up and the program freezes (both Explorer and PowerDesk). Actually the very same thing happens if I "select" a file and try to delete the file by pressing the "Delete" key. And the problem occurs when I try to delete a file using the menu (Edit --> Cut). This is really frustrating, to say the least.
On the start menu, pressing All Programs and then trying to right click on a program to send to desktop, nothing appears or nothing happens at all
Any help would be appreciated
When i close a program in xp 9 times out of 10 i get the message "the program is not responding" and just hangs untill i click end now .
