I would like to add the antivirus program Avira AntiVir to the right-click menu for files and folders in Windows XP. How do I do this?
View 4 RepliesI had Windows Explorer open while running my compter today and noticed that C:Program Files and C:Windows folders was growing. They must have started out at about 1GB or so and by the time they had stopped growing the C:Program Files folder was a little over 3GB and the C:Windows folder was a little over 4GB. I don't know if this is normal or not but am including the text from a HiJackThis log. I am running Windows XP Pro. Can someone tell me if there is a problem or if this is normal?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI decided to get rid of my "Symantec Antivirus" program, but I couldn't find a way to uninstall it, so I deleted the program folder (with included files) and the related shortcuts and left it up to my registry cleaners to get the rest. However, whenever I right-click on an icon or the desktop, it gives me a couple of Systemac Antivirus installation windows that I have to cancel out of before I get my right-click menu. My registry cleaners, anti-spyware, and anti-virus programs can't find anything. Searching for "Symantec" provides no results. How do I fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I had uninstalled several unused programs with the Add-Remove utility of Windows XP.Then I also unchecked a few services in the 'msconfig' (System Configuration Utility) and rebooted.Now, when I right-click on any folder or folder short-cut, the menu shows up only after waiting a full 3 minutes. The mouse cursor turns into the 'busy' indication and the system freezes during that time. The same scenario happens when I try to delete any folder (or folder-shortcut) using the 'Del' key on the keyboard. There is no such issue for any of the files.I would like to know what exactly is causing this problem and how it can be resolved. My PC is working fine now otherwise, and seems much faster than it was yesterday.

On the start menu, pressing All Programs and then trying to right click on a program to send to desktop, nothing appears or nothing happens at all

I am running Windows XP Home on 2 machines. I have them connected in a home network and, for both machines, they are sharing their drive Cs. But for security reasons, I cannot seem to share the Windows and Program Files folders. Is there anyway to override the security and share them anyway?

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn windows explorer when you click the folder Program Files the right side pane is gray due to hidden files. There's an option in that pane which says "show files", I clicked that and it displayed the hidden folders. How do I restore it as it was before? I tried tools>folder>view and ticked "do not show hidden files and folders" but it still shows the folders.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've literally just started having problems with my computer. Sporadically I have lost the ability to right-click, sometimes whenever I do so on either a folder or on an application, no little menu comes up
Also, when browsing through folders, the loading starts to become very slow and sometimes the blue menu at the side of the window isn't there at all. When I click on images to preview, or folders to open, sometimes nothing happens at all and the window just remains the same.
ALSO whilst trying to open some applications I get the error pop-up sound, but no error message box comes up to tell me what the error is. It just makes the noise, and I close the half-loaded application without it crashing (This happened with Photoshop, Adaware, Outlook Express, and once with Sonic RecordNow - all started loading, the error noise was heard, and the program left half loaded or missing parts) I've tried again and it seems it's all hit and miss like the other symptoms...sometimes i'll be able to right-click normally, sometimes i'll be able to browse files normally, sometimes programs will load, but the problem still (at random moments, it seems) arises again.
When Alt Ctrl Delete -ing, either nothing comes up and an error noise is heard, or the little window with the information does come up, but the desktop behind it flickers as if constantly reloading very fast.
The only error sound in which a box popped up, was one telling me "xvidcore.dll was not found". I clicked OK and everything reloaded as if windows explorer had crashed (the start bar, desktop etc).
I haven't done anything as of now, too scared to restart, or try and open any applications it might not like. I can't be exactly sure when I started to have problems, as I leave the computer on for days at a time sometimes (it's been running for about four days this time, about three days is normally the maximum) because I use BitTorrent a lot seeding and downloading.
As a windows 2000 user, I am pazzled by the fact that when I click on folders in Explorer Folder View this causes the directory to expand. In win2000 we normally need to double click, and I must say, I do like it that way.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen folders are double clicked, they are supposed to open. But mine don't! Just randomly one day they stopped openning. Instead they open the "search in folder" window. When I right click the folder, instead of Open being the top function, Search... is the top, so double clicking automatically performs this function. I'm assuming it thinks I want Search to be the default function.

Apprantly the problem only persists when i am connected to network. When i unplug the network wire it becomes fine. Using shellview i tried disabling non microsoft context menu options but it didnt work. When network is enabled right click or double click on a file is very slow. Else it is normal.

So, the only way I can view any specific folder, I have to right-click and then select 'open'. The right-click menu shows 'search' as the default, and I have browsed the registry to see if I can reset it back to 'open'. Well, in the main inferface it only says that anti-virus is on, but i dont see anything about anti-spyware on. However on the website it says the free version gives anti-spyware so I am guessing in the program when it says Anti-Virus, it means anti-virus and anti-spyware right? On the website i saw it did say is gives both. Please help as if it has no anti-spyware, then i wont use it.
