When i double click on any local disk (Local Disk(C) ,(DVD-RW Drive (D) ,(CD-RW Drive (E) or any Removable Disk it will not open directly, it opens a search window. I have to open the the drop down box and select open. I know this was caused by a virus that no longer exist on my PC.
How do i edit the registry so that my drives open by double clicking?

I am using Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2. About a week ago, I had a Trojan-PSW.OnLine Games virus.I think I got rid of the Trojan-PSW.OnLine Games virus. But, I am having the same problem as "thebest100" and "srinivassalle" here:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...ocal-disk.html I tried:1. Enter command prompt on WIN XP. HOW?Click Start > Run > CMD 2. Navigate to drive C: HOW?
type cd 3. Type Dir /a To show all files in root drive. Then identify the autorun.inf file (you may find other autorun-named files there. You this same method to get them out)4. Type attrib autorun.inf This will help you get the file attributes on the autorun.inf. Depending on the outcome which can be ash, i.e. Archived, System file, Hidden), do the following:5. Type attrib -a -s -h autorun.inf (assuming above result). This will make the file a normal file
6. Type del autorun.

I'm not very technology-savvy. I believe I have/had a virus that doesn't/didn't allow me to open my Local Disk by double-clicking. An error would appear saying "Windows cannot find 'resycled/boot.com". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."I looked up my error online and followed the instruction of someone (probably shouldn't have), where I deleted the "boot.com" in my Registry Editor. However, now, whenever I attempt to open my Local Disk by double-clicking, instead of getting the "Window cannot find...." error, I now get: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association Folder Options control panel."

I just re-installed IE and since then have been getting the"Open File: Security Warning" messages for most programs.I try to run (local ones, NOT downloads).I did disable this before, but have forgotten how to. Googling for the answer only came up with how to disable this for files on a network (by adding to zone) and when downloading files in IE. Could anyone tell me where in the registry this can be disabled? Also, I have Home Edition, so no access to gpedit.msc

I am running windows xp sp3. I tried to uninstall Frost Wire, via add or remove programs. I noticed that after it supposedly uninstalled from the a or r file the shortcut was still listed on my desktop. So I searched for F W and found a few references that popped up after my search. When I right clicked on them and tried to delete, that is when I received the above error message

When you click Start>Search>All files and folders, there is a drop-down list of places to look in. Two of the items on that list are:
Local Hard Drives (C and
Local Disk (C
What is the difference between these two items?

A week after updating to most current Windows SP1critical updates (its only change I can think of) I happen to notice that I cannot run a disk error check, I am told that its a NTFS file system and Win cannot open volume for check. Also when I start computer I have to log on with my password every. I have tried to eliminate the password requirement to no avail. I cannot return to pre-update status with System Restore because its been a week and there is too much new data in the system. This is a free standing desktop PC. Can anyone help with these two things? I hope so as I do my error check regularly and find it frustrating to have to log on every time I restart .

Using XP home edition, I'm trying to tweak my Chrome browser so I went looking for the installation folder. The properties dialogue in the shortcut tells me it's in "C:Documents and SettingsOwnerLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe". The problem is that I cannot find this folder. When I go to my D&S folder and open my "Owner" folder, there is no "Local Settings" folder. I have my system set up to show all folders, including hidden and system folders, so I know that isn't the problem.

when I open My Computer, it has a list a couple things;Hard Disk Drives
Drive C: (with a hard drive icon)Devices with Removable Storage.DVD/CD+RW Drive D:(with a CD player icon)Other.Local Disk L: (icon with a drive that has a red circle over it with a white question mark in the red circle)I attached an image of My Computer window. I can format it but it is pointless because it has 0 free used space. I thought if I did that maybe I would be able to erase it, but that didn't work either. It doesn't show up in Disk Manager either. I have tried using Partition Magic to delete it, but on reboot it gives me an error 626. I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

bought a new portable HDD -Western Digital Passport 320GB, and I formatted it to NTFS on my laptop on XP. My main gaming PC has Windows 7 x64 on it and when I got home from my holiday I transferred my files to it and put BitLocker on it.Once I had done this I plugged it back into my laptop with XP on it, and it picks it up as Local Disk (F: ) and says it needs to be formatted. Why would this be? I thought okay, so I took off BitLocker off of it on Windows 7, and plugged it back in, and it was still saying it. What is the problem here? I right clicked it and it said the FileSystem is RAW, which didn't make sense as I formatted it to NTFS on the same computer.

I Have been getting Low disk space memory error's for the last week or so. I have cleaned out my temporary internet files, history, cookies, and deleted a bunch of music files for some space on my drive after getting these messages. Luckily i saved them on a online sharing drive so i didnt lose them all but I am basically wondering why my computer is using up sooo much hard drive space in such a short period of time. Just today i shut the computer off and let it sit for hours hoping that the problem would go away and when i started it back up right away i got a low disk space error. Now After deleting music it said i had over 600 MB of space on the hard drive and the problem was fixed. Not even 20 seconds later i get the error again and it said i only had 180 MB of space. Why would it be doing this ? Do I have a virus ? I ran AVG and it came clean, found no virus or anything.

I have a HDD that I partitioned into C:, and D:. I've noticed recently that C:'s capacity is dramatically going down. It's original capacity is 15GB, and now it's become 930MB. That was not all of a sudden of course, but it's just too much, especially that I do not install new programs in it.I used to open 'Properties > Disk Cleanup', where I would clear all System Restore points except the most recent one. Now Disk Cleanup loading process hangs, and I can't get into its menus. Is there other ways to manage System Restore other than 'Control Panel > System > System Restore'?

I'm having some trouble opening my Local Disc (C:). When I go to My Computer and then double click the drive icon, it brings up another window that's just a search window allowing me to search the C drive. Usually when you double click it just browses to whats in the drive, but I don't know what happened. I can right click the icon and select "Explore" and it will work fine, but I do not want to have to do that every time. Is there some option I must have turned off maybe?
